Thank you. Love seeing other teams fanboards -especially when they’re filled with intelligent, insightful perspectives. No Gang Green, I don’t mean you. -

With last season officially being the centennial season, most know the NFL began play in August, 1920. But it was a regional sport anomaly, relegated to second level status among sports -notably baseball. It wasn’t until after WWII, when commercial air travel came into prominence, that it began to garner national attention. Early pioneers George P. Marshall and ‘Papa Bear’ George Halas had created interest in the sport and as new teams made homes west of the Mississippi in the late 40’s, articles began expanding in local newspapers. My father would regale me with tales of ‘Hollywood’ Bob Waterfield and ‘Crazy Legs’ Elroy Hirsch of the Los Angeles Rams, Brawlin’ Bobby Lane of Detroit, the NY Giants Defense and Otto Graham and Marion Motley on the new Cleveland team, the Browns of the defunct AAFC (our original League). The 50’s brought football out of the forest and into the limelight, surpassing Baseball as our favorite sport. Here is the story.

Sadly, not very well. They copied over the 1st Super Bowl and the IV Chiefs/Vikings. Recently, a group tried to resurrect IV from a black & white coverage mixing in color highlights. It’s kinda lame but it’s the only thing left. NFL Films used real (reel) film for their efforts so they remain pristine.

There’s football, pro football and the NFL. Then, there was the American Football League, where we got our start. We made the playoffs 4 times in the decade long league, including 3 title games, winning 2. But we weren’t one of the 2 best in a league so strong, deep & talented, the stogy NFL had to merge with us. The 2 best teams were Kansas City and Oakland and this is an NFL Films classic featuring their League dominance. Narrated by the very best ever, John Facenda. All you kiddie table neophytes born in the late 60’s and later, this likely holds little interest for you. But we wouldn’t be meeting here daily to discuss our team if they weren’t part of it. For all the old timers, Enjoy!

The destruction is complete.

No worries. I stopped believing in unprovable fairy tales as a preteen.

Hey! The Sabres didn’t lose today! True, they didn’t score again, but it’s a start!😉👍

Losing a parent - when does it start to get easier?
Chandler#81 replied to Patience's topic in Off the Wall
I empathize with everyone who has endured this inevitable occurrence when they’ve been less than about 50 years old. I/my family have been especially fortunate by comparison. No heart attacks, cancer or tragedies to speak of. My parents are now 87 and my grandparents and great-grandparents all lived well into the 90’s with Granddad achieving 99 -we give him full centurion recognition as he was just a couple months shy of 100. Me? I’ve literally done everything to challenge/disrupt my genealogy. Drink like a fish. Smoke like a fiend. Refuse to exercise. Chat with the folks weekly -they’re doing great. I’m thrilled they’re still a big part of mine and my siblings lives, but I have no desire to be their age. I’m 65, middle child of 5. 2 siblings have lost their spouses but they and all my Aunts and Uncles are still alive and doing well -all now Floridians. For me, as old as I am, it’s still inconceivable to lose a family member younger than 92.🤷♂️
