  1. I told a GoT fan friend of mine about the newly released chapter, and his response was, "I haven't read it... I don't want the book to spoil the show." Classic!
  2. Not sure, really. The chapter is newly released, but he has presented it (read it aloud) at a couple of cons already, within the last couple of years. So the content was already released some time ago; this is the first time people can read it themselves.
  3. Actually, the one I find more reasonable is the theory that Bloodraven (the Three-Eyed Crow) was the one who whispered to Aerys, making him go mad and setting into motion a chain of unfortunate events. Now, he is teaching Bran to be a greenseer, but telling him he can't communicate with people from the past...when he clearly can, at least to some extent. So some believe Bloodraven is telling him that to prevent him from communicating with the past and making the same mistakes he made...possibly because Bran can be more powerful than he is...
  4. The 1979 Buffalo Bills story I know these have been posted before, but it's been a little while and I came across this one today. Man, the memories. 1979 was an interesting year, with Jerry Butler lighting it up as a rookie, Fergy becoming the first Bills QB to surpass 3000 yards (!), Roland Hooks looking remarkably elusive, and the defense starting to look nasty. For us old timers, skip to 9:33...remember the "Way to Throw, Joe!" sign on the scoreboard? That damn scoreboard, always with burnt out lights everywhere. They missed the playoffs that year (friggin' Broncos with yet another last-second FG in our house), so I figured everyone would feel right at home watching it. Oh well...at least it wasn't, "Movin' Right Outta Buffalo."
  5. Lot of good stuff in there. Some interesting insights into the defense and how some (Mario) didn't fit in, and how the absence of strong leadership impacted things.
  6. There's a guy here in Salt Lake originally from the Buffalo area, who owns a nice diner in town. He serves beef on weck on Wednesdays at lunchtime. Good sandwich, but it's not quite the same. Says he has the kemmelweck bread imported.
  7. Regardless of what we think, Slauson will not be terribly interested in being a "depth" acquisition. He has played very well, so I'm sure in his mind he's looking for the best opportunity for him to be the starter, wherever on the line that may be, and wherever that gives him the best deal.
  8. I'm sure they'll be lining up for it. What do you charge, $0.25 a "pop"?
  9. I bet those are really good, actually. Not as good as the originals, but still. The best ribs I've ever had, and likely ever will, are from our local Japanese joint nearby. Teriyaki ribs, cooked all day. Oh man.
  10. It all depends on what position he's most interested in playing. If it's center or guard, he might pick SD. If it's tackle, he'd probably pick us.
  11. Seems like a legit question for this thread. Yeah, what gives?
  12. I'm with you on this. Give Miller two good vets on either side and watch him improve. At worst, he slides in to RG and one of the others steps in at RT.
  13. It all sounds good and makes sense. Probably won't happen, though. He can be a decoy, but he has to demonstrate that he can get off the line, run a good route, and catch the ball. Otherwise nobody will care.
  14. True, but he was quite praising of the Bills draft. Which I found disorienting.
  15. I agree with you. Sad he didn't work out better, but it's still hard not to root for him.
  16. I have almost no doubt that, if the Bills accepted the offer (assuming it includes the 'Girls next year's 1st), Whaley would have packaged a couple of those picks to move back up again.
  17. I've never paid attention to the NHL draft before recently...are there no big trades up into the top 3 like in the NFL? Any chance the Sabres could package some of their draft booty to move up?
  18. With a couple previous Super Bowl wins and another one last year, I doubt I would be that upset about it. Seriously, can't we get just one?
  19. He's 6'0" 197lbs, so neither tiny nor huge. We'll see how he adjusts to NFL route running.
