  1. I think you're on to something there. They may draft a rookie and let Peterman start the season. If they crap the bed, so be it...better draft picks next year, and time to give the keys to the kid.
  2. Yes! That was an awesome game, especially since it was the first real game back from the strike. The Bills fell behind 21-0 quickly, then fought back and took the lead in the 4th at 31-24. The defense let Marino score on them late in the 4th to tie it, and it went into OT. Norwood hit a short FG to win it in OT. Kelly and Marino both had over 300 yards passing, the Bills had almost 500 yards of offense. Chris Burkett was the star receiver that day, but would never live up to it afterward. It was an incredible, exciting game and gave tons of hope for the future for the Bills. Completely 180-degrees opposite of the week before, in the horrific last strike game.
  3. Man, I remember that game well. Everyone was excited that the strike would be over. But yeah, that was a crappy game. Anyone remember the game after that? The first one back after the strike?
  4. Man, that does suck. Hope he can get through this one.
  5. I think these are good points. Very few of these guys being tossed around as "bridge" QBs actually want (or think they deserve) to be temporary fill-ins until a rookie can replace them. They're going to want to go to a place where they can be the starter for multiple years, if possible. Buffalo is not that place. Watching TT can definitely be painful at times, and he is not the long-term answer by any means, but if you're looking for a bridge QB, it's going to be hard to beat him for all of the reasons Alphadawg states, especially #5.
  6. Friggin' New England***. Always friggin' New England***.
  7. Moving away from Foles for a minute...I think the best and most enjoyable thing about the Super Bowl is not just that the Pats*** lost, but the manner in which they lost: 1. They lost in dramatic fashion, in much the same way that they beat other teams (give up a late turnover, then a late TD, then falter trying to come back). 2. The possible GOAT head coach is outcoached by a 2nd year head coach. 3. The possible GOAT QB loses to a career backup QB. 4. The possible GOAT QB drops an easy trick play catch that could have gone for a big gain. 5. The career backup QB then catches an easy TD pass on a trick play. 6. The Eagles knock out a key player for the Pats*** early in the game, altering the tone and strategy. 7. The Eagles score two TDs on plays that typically would be reversed by replay against the Pats***. 8. One of those TDs is one that mirrored a similar TD earlier in the year that was reversed, and essentially gave home field advantage to the Pats*** for the playoffs. 9. Their former power RB powered over them in impressive fashion. 10. And, of couse, they lost. Just so many good things there to soak up.
  8. Well said. So as an example, if we say Dareus got a $25 million signing bonus, Dareus gets all of that bonus right up front when he signs the contract, but the Bills get to spread it out over the life of the contract. I don't recall, but let's say the contract was for 5 years. So the Bills get to average that out and count $5 million of that bonus against the cap for each of the 5 years of the contract. If Dareus is cut or traded before the end of the 5 year contract, all of the bonus money still needs to be accounted for. Dareus already received the whole sum ($25 million) up front, but all of it needs to be accounted for in the cap. Let's say in this instance Dareus is traded after the 3rd year of the 5-year contract. That means the bonus that was supposed to be spread out over years 4 and 5 of the contract ($5 million each year, or $10 million total) automatically get lumped onto the Bills cap for the following year (in this case, year 4, the year after he leaves). So that's considered dead money -- here, $10 million of the Bills cap counting towards someone who is no longer on the roster. On the bright side, we don't have to count his salary against the cap anymore, so there are some overall cap savings over time. (The exact numbers are different, of course, I just don't know the details.)
  9. I think it would be hilarious to see which QB first popped into people's minds when they saw this thread title. I agree with the other poster, I thought for sure it would be Hobert.
  10. Well that, and knowing that we aren't cheaters.
  11. Ha! Nice try. I will continue to bask in the glory of your loss.
  12. I'll take what I can get...
  13. Of course you can read them. If you don't want to pay a ridiculously low charge for someone's work, then just go to another thread. Just because an article is behind a paywall doesn't mean we can't or shouldn't discuss it here. That's what the board is for. People didn't get nearly this uptight about ESPN Insider article discussions, they just ignored them or moved on.
  14. Moving up is going to be expensive. Supply and demand. There are several teams who need a QB and who may be willing to move up, which changes the math. The typical draft trade values don't necessarily apply in this situation, where teams are bidding against each other to draft for the highest-value position on the field. Teams in the upper half of the draft can almost set whatever price they want...
  15. Sure makes you realize how some individuals underperform for immature reasons, yet can turn things around in ways that aren't always clear to us. Even just a change of scenery can do it (*cough* Dareus).
  16. And the only one I got to see in person. Ugh. I can't believe we actually led that game, 7-0.
  17. He apparently convinced Bucky Gleason of the idea.
  18. Why would the Browns or Colts agree to that now? The longer they hold out, the higher the price gets.
  19. Love seeing everyone come out for these threads...
  20. This place is amazing. So many great people over the years. Thanks Scott for grabbing us by the eyeballs and never letting go. I'm wondering where the craziest, far away places people have logged in from...I remember checking in from Haiti once over 10 years ago on the slowest connection you can imagine...
