For the record, the Bengals won that classic Monday night return to Cincinnati the next game 23-10. Palmer was 12-of-21 for 198 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT. The Broncos were 5-1 and had the top-rated defense in the NFL at the time. From some random blog after that game:

Hmm. So they knew every time we were going to run the ball, yet they really couldn't do much to stop McGahee. What does that mean? Maybe what he meant by "predictable" was, "Once we saw McGahee ripping some nice runs on that first drive we could predict that they would abandon the running game from then on."

Somehow this reminds me of the argument during the offseason to start JP over Drew: "He couldn't possibly be worse than Drew, right?" Guess what...no matter how bad things may look, there is always worse.

We've had zero passing game the last three and a half weeks. No surprise to anyone, as far as I know. They should have all expected us to run the ball as much as possible since that's what the coaches have been saying we were going to do all offseason. Defenses haven't been worried about Losman for a while now, but they still haven't stopped McGahee all that well yet. We're pretty decent at running the ball, when we do. Question is, when will we?

Per TD: WTF? How many of us were watching the game screaming at the TV every time they frigging blew a drive by abandoning the run? It doesn't take hindsight, man. Half the city saw that crap while it was happening. The other half was in the can. Personally, at half time I was ready to rip into the staff for giving Willis 3 carries in the entire first half after that brilliant first drive.

Personally, I laughed my a$$ off when I read this guy's question: Awesome!

I agree to some extent, but for me it was when we had them pinned back inside their 10 yard line, and it was 3rd and long. First down, team deflates, end of story.

I think, besides the maddening abandonment of the successful running game, this was the most frustrating thing about this game. How many times did we give them first downs by a defensive penalty, on third down? How many offensive penalties do we have to endure? By the quarter mark of the season, we shouldn't be seeing such bush league crap.

Combined score in the three games. So much for the toughest division in football!

I bet Jerry S. is just giggling with glee right now. Can't wait to get back to the computer to pen his next gem. With so much ammo, I bet he doesn't even know where to start... I wonder if we'll be able to pick his headline out tomorrow...

That's one of my big issues. When he decided to send in the punting unit, I said, "time to go, this one's over. They've given up." Absolutely horrendous. No way that defense stops them twice, much less we score twice.

Too bad we don't play the Pats for a few weeks. I'd like to see our "Run-Oriented Ball Control" staff devise a strategy against their defense that involves avoiding the run as much as posssible.
