I thought the game plan last year was to-- - pretend like we're going to run the ball - tread water on first and second down - throw dump offs on third down that are too short to make the first down - think up some radical trick play on fourth down Hell, we don't need a good defense for that.

I would really like to see an analysis of our average third down distance on offense and defense last year. It definitely seemed like, on offense, we were always facing 3rd and 7 or more, while on defense it felt like it was usually 3rd and 5 or less. Not that it mattered on defense, though, since it didn't really matter how long they had to go on third down. I definitely think the key to a good offense, though, is creating manageable third down distances. Perhaps we will see a change in this direction this year.

Ha ha...no kidding. Problem is, I was a little pissed at the way the Sabres were playing up to that point. Sloppy play especially in their own end, Sens were beating them to the puck consistently, and we couldn't get a decent shot on goal. Then we get the penalty, and I figured no way do we get two shorthanded goals in this game. I didn't think we'd even get another shot on goal. Okay, lesson learned. Oh, and I didn't turn off the Oilers game.

I'm almost too embarrassed to admit it...when the Sabres got that penalty with just over 2 minutes left...I couldn't take it anymore. I turned it off and took the dogs for a walk. WHEN I LEFT IT WAS 4-5 AND WHEN I GOT BACK IT'S 7-6? You gotta be kidding me.

Jes' doin' my job. It's messy, but someone's gotta do it. As long as he stays away from the naked bootlegs on 4th and everything, he should be okay.
