If a guy runs out of bounds and is the first to touch the ball, it's a penalty, not a touchback. The only way it's a touchback is if a guy runs into the endzone and fails to establish his position back out of the endzone before touching the ball.

I actually wonder if one of the two will get cut after the next preseason game, allowing them to focus hard on the one they keep while giving Brad a few snaps to get him in sync with the offense.

I love how our community hatred for the Pats* allows us to completely discredit the fact that they are the Super Bowl runners-up, by a very small margin, and have arguably gotten better in areas of weakness this offseason. Look, I hate them as much or more than anyone else here, but I have absolutely no idea how any team, much less us, is going to stop them this year. I hope they go down hard this year, but right now, it's just hope.

Thanks for the insight, jw. I have to think they'll keep seven receivers this year (including Smith), but if Easley continues to play well, it's almost certainly him over Namaan. Shame, but maybe he'll get a spot on the PS.

Really? You both think Merriman will start at RDE in week 1? I was thinking either Kelsay or Anderson would start, and Merriman will only see spot duty. At least at the start of the season, until he proves more.

I agree. Sounds like they're giving Corey a shot at proving he can do more than special teams and a few rare blocking plays. If he can be a legitimate receiving threat, he can be much more useful.

Awesome, thanks for the info! I am seriously addicted to this stuff. I like the idea of Kelsay and Anderson rotating at RE. Imagine the preparation every LT is going to have to make each time they go up against us -- those two have such different styles the changeup from snap to snap could really cause issues.

As far as the slot goes, that's going to be occupied by Nelson and, when we go to a four-receiver set, probably Donald Jones. That 4th receiver spot in that set is the other outside receiver, which will likely be either Easley or Graham. I'm actually pretty stoked about that group -- like Gailey implied, I think our receivers are going to be a lot better than most outsiders are giving them credit for.

Actually, when you think about it -- our second string D-line is actually pretty darn good, which I'm hoping will help to make our backup O-linemen even better. Because, you know, we're going to need a few of them sooner or later.

From what I've read, it sounds like Moats is the backup to Morrison, so I imagine he will stick around. Either White or McKillop will stick as the backup to Shep, with the other being cut. If McKillop's knee is good I can see him sticking, since he apparently was very good at special teams with the 49ers. My guess is that they keep Barnett, Shep, Morrison, Bradham, McKillop, Moats, and Carder. But that's 7, and it doesn't count Scott, who is certainly sticking around. Perhaps Carder goes to the PS? Or do they really consider keeping 8?

Interesting, thanks for pointing that out. I missed that part -- I had only seen the "1,000 percent Steelers fan" thing and thought, "I can only imagine what Browns fans are thinking."
