Here's how you spend 130 million on the Ralph
Rubes replied to Hammered a Lot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Maybe the $130 million will go towards having both at the same time. Why settle? -
Uh, sure. You been drinking tonight?
-
Doubtful he even thinks of trying it.

It looked to me like he was clearly trying to kick Ed Reed, as it turns out right in the knee. If he had made better contact, he might have caused some real damage. It was very unsportsmanlike. In fact, you might call it unsportsmanlike conduct. 15 yards. Personally, I call it a puss move. I wanted Baltimore to b!tch slap Brady so badly after that, and they came through. What a great day. Sabers beat the Flyers, and the Pats* get slapped out of the playoffs at home. Then I get to have dinner and see a movie with my wife. Could that be scripted any better?

I've been trying to pay attention to which football games other than the Bills that I watch during the season. As it turns out, I often will have the Sunday/Monday/Thursday Night Football games on, and I occasionally will watch whatever games are being shown on CBS/FOX on Sundays. But I hardly ever watch any non-Bills games with DirecTV. So I guess the question is -- with respect to football, are we talking all football games, even those on CBS/FOX and on Sunday/Monday/Thursday Night Football, only being available by pay-per-view? Or would the same games be available on CBS/FOX/NFLN/ESPN, and this ala carte model only being applied to the games not otherwise available on those channels? I would probably prefer the ala carte model if games were still shown on CBS/FOX/NFLN/ESPN.

Deadspin: Manti Te’o’s Dead Girlfriend Is A Hoax
Rubes replied to Punch's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Hell, I used to chat with chicks online back when I was using The Source and the early CompuServe, back in the early '80s, with 300 baud modems and crap. Never met any of them, but I remember one of them sent me a picture of herself. -

Some interesting perspectives from the 'Catfish' creators. They seem to think Te'o was a victim in this story and that the story goes much deeper... 'Catfish' Creators Reel at Manti Te'o Hoax -

Deadspin: Manti Te’o’s Dead Girlfriend Is A Hoax
Rubes replied to Punch's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Not sure if posted before, but here is an article on SI.com from the guy who interviewed him back in October. Interesting stuff. The amount of detail is staggering. Manti Te'o in his own words He says he knew her for four years, but that they dated formally since the prior October, so for a year. Could a hoax like this really be perpetrated for four years, including one as intimate friends? Who in the world has the stamina to stay on the phone with him for hours at a time, every day? -
Deadspin: Manti Te’o’s Dead Girlfriend Is A Hoax

It certainly does happen. From the story: "In yet another now-deleted tweet, Tei herself reached out to Nev Schulman, star of the 2010 film Catfish and executive producer of the MTV program of the same title. Schulman's movie and show are about romantic deception through fake online personas." There is no question that Manti was in on this in some way. I think it's almost a given that the story will eventually come out that he is gay, and this was a way of deflecting people from his relationship with the Tuiasosopo guy. At least, that would be the least sociopathic explanation for this. It's possible it's not, and he was duped from the beginning by this guy, but the duration of it would just be too hard to believe. Wow. Just wow. -
Why do people keep saying Carrington? I didn't see him on the original list.
-
Yeah, doesn't look good for him, unfortunately.

Lance Armstrong Interview on Oprah Jan-17
Rubes replied to truth on hold's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Right. Nobody really cares at this point about the PED use or the fact that everyone did it, it's about how aggressively and nastily he went after anyone who dared suggest he was using PEDs. Here's an interesting summary of the nastiness. -
Of course, it partly depends on what your definition of "the worst" is. One of the threads on OTW a while back asked for the worst movie of all time. My answer was the first of the three Star Wars prequels (Episode I). Not because it had the worst acting of all time, or the worst plot of all time, or had the worst box office performance of all time -- but because it had so much to work with (money, actors, marketing, special effects, creative license) and ended up being just so colossally disappointing overall. It may have been a success at the box office, but it sucked horribly. Not as bad as some really terrible flicks, but it was the massive difference between potential and realization that made it the worst. So there are some truly horrible coaches that didn't have a lot to work with and accomplished nothing (Hank Bullough), and then there are those who had considerable talent to work with and severely underperformed (Chan). Who was worse? I'm tempted to say Chan...although Hank was truly a trainwreck of a coach.

Alex Smith might be easier to get than expected

Reject mediocrity. -
Ah, that is probably a good point. But I suppose he could kneel down and call the TO immediately.
-
Couldn't he just catch it and call timeout immediately, even if he's in the middle of running?
-
I recall a long FG by Lindell against KC in overtime that he made, but was called off because of the "freezing" timeout. Then he proceeded to shank it. Do I remember that correct? Of course, that's the only incident I can think of, which doesn't really qualify as proof. In fact, probably the opposite.
-
Whatever you say, hot shot. I would say at this point, even with three games left to win, that the Pats* are now definitely the favorites and their odds of winning it all have increased significantly. I sure as hell hope they lose, and anything is possible, but the Broncos just made it a whole lot easier for them.

You're entitled to your opinion, as I am mine. I don't think it's a "ridiculous" assumption.

Fantastic stuff, thanks for sharing!

Drinks you never had before that turned out to be awesome
Rubes replied to Kelly the Dog's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Good stuff, thanks. I hadn't seen or heard of the copper mugs before. I made a similar drink a couple years ago for a party that I found in a book, called the "Dark & Stormy". 1 part dark rum, 2 parts ginger beer, and a lemon twist. Poured over ice. Everyone liked it.
