  1. That's the ticket, though I would prefer a pure geek like Jaworski rather than a broadcaster. I understand those of you who don't want a joker in the booth, but for better or worse the MNF franchise has been defined by its "personality" rather than by traditional analysis. Howard Cosell and Dandy Don made the show "appointment television" before that phrase existed. Players were making about 60 grand and people were watching BASEBALL on TV. And now ? Can't blame ESPN for following the formula. .
  2. So it would appear that the jury IS NOT in, Mr. Trooth. Hung, and sequestered with Pyrite... .
  3. Ugh... Google gets the best property in internet history for paper. I guess it all works out for the You Tubers (even at a dime on the dollar). .
  4. And where is the finale for the "Escape From..." trilogy. A third Snake Plissken movie would put most of these to shame. Kurt Russell and Ms. Barbeau are aging pretty well... .
  5. Joe D on WGR said he would fix Willis' problems in short yardage by using two backs and a lead blocker... Huh ? I hadn't noticed that they weren't doing that already. And if they aren't, what does that say about the staff's faith in the position ? .
  6. That booth is a work in progress and I hope as Tony K grows into his role, Theismann has the good sense to shrink some. Tony K is a special talent with a light touch (even when he is on the needle) and in that three man gig is the LEAST replaceable. Quality analysts and play by play men are not a tough get. Best Mr. Tony radio bit was running his "Snackdown" up against Rome's annual "Smackdown" in which his listeners would talk junk food for a few hours (accompanied by Rome style sound effects). Simple counterprogramming, clever without being mean spirited. .
  7. Coy Wire, Stanford linebacker turned safety on the same field with Brian Urlacher, New Mexico safety turned linebacker. It all made sense to somebody, somewhere, sometime.
  8. ESPN is not a TERRIBLE name, For Your Consideration
  9. I was moderately hip to that fact, but being a selfish bastard, it was a convenient spot to insert my point. And we get 52 weeks of Bills love... a week of Bears (or Lions) respect won't kill us. I mean when you're at the beach, your wife does'nt mind you looking... err... nevermind... .
  10. The Tao of Pooh : "It is hard to be brave," said Piglet, sniffing slightly, "when you're only a Very Small Animal." I thought today's game was a prime example of this philosophy. Better luck in the next big test.
  11. A play is a play. Execute it. What a series though... 2nd and one on the Bear 42... a throwaway bomb that surprises nobody... Willis for no gain... Shelton moves early ... a fake punt ? Felt to me then like a gambler throwing good money after bad. In retrospect, kudos to Jauron for goosing a team that probably needed it. For a supposedly conservative guy with an anti-turnover fetish, that was quite a call. .
  12. There's thinking with your head, and thinking with your heart. Then there's using your head to rationalize a gut feeling. Considering the Lions an easy out makes me queasy -- they had the Vikes on the ropes before four or five defensive injuries caught up to them. No need to question Daqix's heart on this. .
  13. Nope. Did we lose at Miami and win our home opener ? Get with the program -- expect the unexpected.
  14. I am not in the habit of quoting entire posts but this is the absolute truth. 10,000 good bands in 2,000 cities and towns worldwide and I am supposed to swallow terrestrial radio ? The New Model Put away the nostalgia (or play off it). I have paid for more music by more people in the last three years than at any time in my life. My road trips have been enriched beyond comprehension by knowing the who and where of interesting music. I am so sorry that Burning Red didn't become the Rolling Stones. Even sorrier that the Rolling Stones became the Rolling Stones... . (Edit... Switch Rolling Stones to Incubus. Nice viral marketing Detox. I now know more about Southeastern Nu-Metal than any man my age has a right to.)
  15. They beat Chicago, lose to Detroit, and do better than expected through the Jax, SD, NYJ stretch. The last game win puts them in a playoff tiebreaker. Conference wins (New England at home anyone ?) tell the tale. That's football. .
  16. X- Files being the model, alternating one offs with their conspiracy theme. There was never a reason to abandon the show (if that was one's thing). And I like what I've seen of the Kidnapped. Another interesting cast but I couldn't see Crazy Billy from Six Feeet Under stretching on into multiple seasons. The Rockford Files, he is not... .
  17. How many serials can I to commit to ? Of Jericho, Vanished, Kidnapped, The Nin9, Six Degrees ... I chose Smith on the strength of cast ( Ray Liotta, Ginny Madsen, Amy Smart, Jonny Lee Miller, Simon Baker). Skeet Ulrich, Major Dad and Pamela Reed didn't quite compare. Does it have the taint of Lost ? The isolation angle requires much suspension of belief, no ? I would hate to miss out on another winner. .
  18. 2) Macaroon ? 3) To All the Girls I've Loved Before ? 4) XXX ?
  19. Don't you see !!! BEN. His name is Ben ! Ben Jonson was the Chief Chronologer of London in 1628, our most reliable witness to Shakespeare's existence. Jonson's most notable play was " The Isle of Dogs", which was so controversial he was JAILED for sedition !!! Polar bears ! And one of the Others is the pilot "Swamp Thing" from CON AIR ! And did a full frontal scene in SIDEWAYS, chasing Miles to his car ! Finally, this B word is starting to make some sense....
  20. Ho, ho... I wouldn't be so sure of that. True, that a sociopath or two makes the football world go round. Our own Brad Butler will probably come in handy at some point. .
  21. The Divinyls ? Creep'd even without the guys rockin' out. Bad adult contemporary radio might be an underrated reason for the youth flight from Western New York. .
  22. I also think TD is a pretty smart guy but Pyrite, you're working too hard. The man had to do things on the cheap in Wilsonworld and just wasn't up to the task. He also had to sell tickets which necessitated that awful monkey dance appealing to the WORST IN US. Firing Williams, the bold and wacky draft day moves, the splashy Milloy signing -- all to keep us filling the Ralph. He was remarkably successful in selling hope and in the Ralph filling, given his record. Better luck next stop, TD. .
  23. Mort made a lazy, lazy comment. It is one thing to question Marv for not trading down, another to question him for trading up... but to characterize our GM as not "up to snuff" ? Marv was active and picked the players that fit his vision. No other team picked five consecutive defensive players at the top of their draft. .
  24. Uh, O.K. Mort. So drafting five defensive players in a row wasn't outside the box thinking ? Just so happened that they were the " best player available" on Modrak's list ? Marv is clearly a man with a definite plan, you pantload. .
  25. Hmm.. 1) Belgian Endive 2) Bergen 3) Llorando -- Rebekah Del Rio 4) Kin ? 5) The children in The Cat in the Hat ? .
