  1. As true as that is, it may be time to let J.P. be J.P. His errors seem to flow from trying to be the quaterback who reads defenses , follows progressions, makes good choices.. he might not be that guy. While I don't think he needs a tall reciever, he does need some football players who can get open when he gets on the move (and he better get on the move). Recievers like Evans should be better in space than DB's so why not take the risk. Let's see some of the Tulane from Losman, it did get him drafted.
  2. Flowers is right about Sam's Town representation of "an America"-- but it is only one of many. Those boys certainly know how to pick a fight. .
  3. I can't help but feel for the Mcfarlands and Geisingers of the world. The team didn't hit rock bottom in time to make use of their TWO years on the practice roster (and stints in NFL Europe). Same picks by the same people. For those of you who like the idea of rebuilding that should make intuitive sense. This has the smell of desperation. Thankfully, I am on board with desperation...
  4. Enough with the EMO talk, it is embarrassing. Men and their "feelings" should be strangers if not outright enemies. Get on board with ANEMO (Absolutely no emotion) with this clip of the passionless and ridiculously obscure Magneta Lane. July 2006 Be careful not to get trampled by the mob...
  5. WOW ! For sure in the offseason, but who in their fevered dreams saw this coming ? These guys are bolder and wackier than TBD. Kudos to the Bills for recognizing a problem area and for not making the EASY move.
  6. Joe D was on fire before the game on Sunday. At one point he wanted Ralph to give him a hundred grand to scout lineman -- said he would eat the money if he couldn't find TWO a year. At first I thought he was drunk. After a few minutes I was considering giving him the money. .
  7. I miss Ben Sobieski too. Big heart (really probably too unhealthily big). And I hope the Bills pick late enough that a linebacker doesn't seem like a reach. .
  8. If you are going to play two rookie safeties, a vanilla Cover Two is the scheme that had better work. If they can't keep people from running free behind them IN THAT, all hope is lost. The defense is not subadequate talent wise. The seven or eight man DL rotation should be able to hang with most OL's (including New England's) provided Fewell and Kollar are as wise as advertised. And would you really rather roll out Seau and Vrabel at linebacker than who we do ? I'll go with Jauron and company in this debate. No scheme will work if it is plagued by mental errors. If he won't throw his players under the bus, I'll do it for him.
  9. Or maybe she's that methamphetamina that calls you at crazy hours many months later. Rich Gannon, I'm talkin' about you...
  10. All things considered, it was a running play that kept the clock running. I think it fit the game plan perfectly. Not as conservative as running Damian Shelton or taking a knee, but strangely effective just the same.
  11. Low, low expectation. Teams can win five games by accident. The second expectation is the one that always puzzles me. We let losing teams of the hook with that type of rationalization -- it wouldn't be a phrase used if the Bills were the 4-3 they could be playing the same sort of ball. Did the Dolphins steadily improve last year when they finished winnig six straight ? Mullarky's Bills pulled a similar trick to go 9-7. Both meaningless in terms of rebuilding. .
  12. Forget about the draft position and who was what when... They are different animals. Brees was a disciplined Tiller "scheme" product who was no guarantee to succeed because of percieved physical limitations. Losman is almost the opposite case. His athletic ability let him get away with things that his own coach STILL has reservations about. The light "will not come on" for Losman in the same way. It is more likely that Losman will have to set fire to his playbook if he is to see anything. Not that that would be a bad thing. .
  13. You know what I hate continually reading on TBD ? That work in progress nonsense. They were better a month ago than they are now. This staff isn't giving J.P. more and more freedom to do his thing (whatever that may be) and the team is not improving as the new schemes become more familiar. They can do a little buisness on the ground, the kid can make all the throws. The defense will put up decent sack numbers and there will be enough three and outs to make games interesting. They are what they are. It is not a work in progress, IT IS HERDING CATS. Some weeks, when Jauron and company have them under thumb, there won't be the mind numbing mental mistakes that have washed this season's hope away. Don't mistake these brief occurences as gradual improvement. It will be them playing as they possibly could have from from day one. .
  14. BUMP The phrase a "work in progress" is now a cruel joke. The idea that a team assumes the character and bearing of their head coach is equally laughable. In London Fletcher's words, they just haven't been smart enough. If everything goes exactly their way they can win a close game. The staff is forced to game plan in such a way that quarterback play doesn't kill them. They have to hope that nobody lines up wrong or moves early on third down. Suffer with the knowledge that a ball on the ground is a lost ball. Suffer the play clock violations, the odd time outs. It is a high wire act that I wouldn't wish on anyone. All to protect a defense that is probably weeks away from getting adequate safety play. Not that it is guaranteed to make much difference. .
  15. I want them to play TOMORROW. And to do it right this time. They're not physically beat up. They now have two weeks to think about how mistake prone they are. Two weeks to think about where the season has gone, where it could've been. A bye now is a disaster for a young team. .
  16. Wow, early days. Since we're sharing, I still have a copy of the Mosaic browser on the Blackbird (Mac Powerbook 540) that I was using this morning. .
  17. We've already seen this game. The lines were competitive, there were plenty of three and outs for the D... it was an encouraging day. Now we get to see it up close and in person -- if that means anything, BILLS WIN ! .
  18. I cannot tell if you or Jello (or Turbonegro for that matter) are serious. Long live Man's Ruin Records just the same. .
  19. I fear that Cincy thought it was me. If I were to riff on National Lampoon's Bernie the cab driver it would not involve Amelie Mauresmo, I can assure you. .
  20. Thank you for saying that. What on earth is the point of giving up ? To be right ? Is there some sort of prize for being slightly less idiotic ? Not beating Detroit as a one point favorite on the road isn't akin to getting drunk and shi..ing under the Christmas Tree. It is a tough league. The differences between the teams are not large. How many plays exactly separate 2-4 and 4-2 ? I will not let past disappointments sour my anticipation of the Bills glorious victory vs. New England. That possibility is more energizing and interesting to me than dancing on (insert current suckmaster)'s grave. .
  21. Queens of the Stone Age's Songs for the Deaf -- not so obscure. But I like pretty much everything Josh Homme touches (including Brody Dalle of the Distillers, I guess). His Desert Sessions are usually interesting (Vol. 7 and 8 used PJ Harvey IIRC) and the Eagles of Death Metal are good fun. In the guilty pleasure category, Magneta Lane has restored my faith in girly rock. Dancing With Daggers is probably the opposite of a concept album (unless that concept is repitition) but what the hell... Sparta, the other half of At the Drive In are sharp as well. Don't know if they are full album sharp.
  22. Robbie Robertson's first solo LP charted pretty well in 1987 (Lazy River and Showdown at Big Sky still get Adult Contemporary play). Much soundtrack work and many producing gigs; he didn't really have to do anything what with publishing rights and songwriting credits for The Band. Still causes a stir in Canada and in the Native community when he puts his mind to the various causes and projects that emeritus rockers find themselves involved in. .
  23. The words... change and fire. And the life of a Bills fan. A win and it seems there be no reason why they should ever lose. A loss and the certainty that they may never win again. Enjoy the ride.
  24. Change what now ? Fire and replace ? You are one hasty bastard to be talkin' "stay the course". I fear I have stumbled into the first Fire Jauron thread by mistake...
  25. People. They are a five and a half point underdog at home -- it ain't exactly UB at Auburn. Losing two in a row on the road is not unusual. Losing a second home game this early in the season is only something a bad, bad team might do. My beloved Bills do not fit that description. .
