  1. I am getting tired of the idea that the coaching staff is either "holding back" Losman or waiting for he or his offensive line "to develop". That he should be given the season to show us something. That at some point the "light will come on". Classic Fan-think. In another thread I surmised that JP's future is not the most important thing in Marv's world. It is entirely possible that what we are seeing is THE BILLS OFFENSIVE PLAN regardless of what might transpire in the next seven games. The timelines are out of sync for for JP, his O-Line, and especially the defense to arrive at the same time. Think of Marv (who ran a Delaware Wing T in Kansas City) hiring Dick Jauron (who ran the Bears into the ground) who hired Steve Fairchild (who as a running backs coach put Travis Henry in the Pro Bowl). I will dig up the post in which Marv talks of his 41 rushing attempts per game Kansas City days as a means to improve his teams " mentality and toughness", if anyone needs it. I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for a bad defense so that JP can be "turned loose" in the passing game -- we just saw two of those. What the Bills are running now just might be the offense that we will be seeing for the next couple of years as Marv shapes the personnel in ways that fans haven't even imagined. .
  2. Sue to stop its release or for half of the proceeds ? If the genie gets out of the bottle, all hell would break loose. .
  3. The last year that Steve Fairchild was the running backs coach for Greggo, Henry was IN the Pro Bowl. .
  4. Fan think is that we are waiting for JP to develop and drafting pass blockers over the next few years. It is entirely possible that Levy - Jauron think is that JP's development isn't the most important thing on the planet. Running backs and earth movers might be day one draft picks next year. You may have stumbled onto the master plan.
  5. Yes, even if he himself didn't think he was being serious. Sticking to a Plan Eighth paragraph... "Before we move on, let's take a trip down memory lane. When Marv took over the Chiefs in 1978, he believed in the running game. Levy inherited a team long on running backs and short on receivers and quarterbacks, so that first year he went with a Winged T offense. The Chiefs put up some impressive numbers on the ground, averaging 41 carries per game and totalling nearlly 3000 rushing yards. The team finished 4-12 but that season built a mentality and toughness that Levy wanted to establish..." Don't make me tell you about Fairchild's time at Colorado State. .
  6. Right on. Maybe he's not so wrong. Anyone remember Marv's first offense at Kansas City ? Steve Fuller at QB running the "Wing T" ? On the Marv Levy Show (WKBW ?) he was going on about running the ball, how crucially important it was ... I thought it was some sort of flashback going on. Then I saw the game on Sunday. .
  7. The big positive JP has going for him is that unqualified support he gets from his coach. It is up to him to make that not seem like crazy talk (as soon as possible). I am not sure that his team likes to hear about how "we've got to get him help... we've got to get him more help". Unfortunate choice of words. .
  8. Some teams can make their assorted tubby junk work. There really is no recipe for putting together an offensive line -- if there was everyone would use it. As far as I can tell, nearly every team has O Line questions if not problems. Coach 'em up Mouse... .
  9. Take the air out of the ball. Shorten the game. Keep Sage off of the field, he was better against the Bills last year than Manning was last week. I wish that was only a joke. Texan injuries won't fix what's broke. .
  10. Hey, that's outside of the box thinking. Shades of Justin Bannan at offensive guard. At least he might have been able to stay with Freeney, but I guess he has enough to do. .
  11. Somebody count up the 3 and 5 step drops vs. full drops for me. A shorter drop and Freeney's loop is no factor. 3rd and 6, 'fer 'chrissakes, stick with what has been working. .
  12. Best song ever ... but was there a video ? And it was the 80's underground that MADE video television. VH 1 should pay some respect. There is enough lame band footage on that list to make such a show unwatchable even if you like the music. .
  13. I fear that Lost reflects life in that it is confusing and possibly pointless. The audience (and this forum) splits into adherents of faith (in the storyteller) and adherents of reason (for whom the jury is still out -- way, way, effin' out). Enjoy the ride but prepare for disappointment. .
  14. You can't predict the future by looking at the past. That is what I'll hang my hat on. Three step drops with short slants and outs might be something new. Where is that poster who was talking about the "Crazy Eights" formation in preseason ? And didn't we draft a mobile quarterback some years back so we could go mediocre on the offensive line ? Put him to work. .
  15. Congrats, Ed. It is a pleasure to follow one of the success stories in this TBD torture chamber. ONE MORE BIG WIN puts Rutgers on the map. Rips up the map, in fact.
  16. Bad, bad line. The half shouldn't really be needed to attract Packer money, IMO. Makes the Bills look like the "smart money" pick. My guess is it doesn't stay at 3.5. .
  17. C'mon, where is " I rarely wear underwear, and when I do it's usually something unusual" ?
  18. Maybe she's hungry. But really Flavor Flav > Katie Couric is a sign of the apocalypse. That VH 1 number has to be a mistake. .
  19. Hang on to punk. Is it punk ? Not exactly punk ? Not even remotely punk ? Always a good way to listen to the world. Inevitably, the answer comes back as ONLY POSSIBLE BECAUSE OF PUNK. Love the long dead King and keep an eye on his bastard offspring.
  20. That is some statement. Me old. I would love to bend space and time so that we could all go back to the forgotten scene concerts of yore. But keep up the good fight. I enjoy your commitment.
  21. True 'dat.
  22. Hey, I was trying to hide my Losman comments in a quiet place... But to refresh my point, consider the difference between stopping the third down to simply get off the field with the excitement of stopping the third down to return the ball to your "dangerous" offense. Humans are emotional creatures. It is the difference between playing in high spirits and in playing with dread. I'm not trying to let anyone off the hook here, just interested in the environment that RR mentioned. Where I and RtheDB probably differ is in how important the QB position is to that environment. He handles the ball on every play (apologies to Josh Reed). Is he the menacing storm front movin' in or is he just a guy holding an umbrella ?
  23. Ugh... I'll try to hide this ugly little truth in here. Losman IS the problem (in the short term, at least) -- to reverse your friend, the environment is in regression because the most critical position isn't being recognized as such. Every time the coaching staff uses the words "manage the game" or "work in progress" in connection with Losman it sows doubt in his team. Coupled with his middling performance it is tough for anyone to cut loose and play with confidence. It is the nature of the beast. Teams have to play with the anticipation of success. This team knows that with their game plan it won't take many mistakes to take them out of games. It is not only our eyes that are on J.P. The cold is bad, but not as bad as coming down with a little bit of the Joe Dellamielleure...
  24. (Sigh) The play was tragic. The equivalent of missing an open net (for you Sabre fans). I like Willis. Sure, the gimpy DB had the angle and the reachback straightarm failed but I needed him to score on that play. It reminds me of that Mcgee return that ground to a halt on the three with time running out in the half in some forgotten dead end game. Missed opportunities are becoming the emblamatic memories of this particular collection of Bills. .
