  1. Not much waiting and hoping in that case. I'll modify meaningless (it seems to offend) to means less. .
  2. Alaskan Free Methodists. " Members spread straw and don costumes. Some even dress as manger animals... We have a cow hood thing that a person will wear that actually just looks spooky. " That is a stupidity magnet if ever I've seen one. .
  3. Wow, great read, thanks. Who is that source ? That is some hatchet job considering the generic Tiki Barber stuff of last week. Does Tom Friend have a reputation around Washington for "greasing the wheels" for Snyder's moves ? That article is an indictment of the beloved Gibbs as much as anything. .
  4. Yes, the baseball wildcard argument. Go back a week and OSU - Michigan as well becomes meaningless. Your point multiplies to maybe 30 or more games that matter. But I WANT THAT OSU - Michigan showdown (as much as their fans maybe), like I want the USC - Notre Dame to come. It is an intensity issue. No second chances. But hey, that's my kink and I guess my time has passed. Just me and the NCAA left ... .
  5. Wow, the playoff scenario is that popular in here ? I want to scrap the BCS to go back to the OLD POLLS AND SPLIT- TITLE DAYS. The USC - Notre Dame match-up is meaningless if they're both going to make a playoff anyway. I don't want meaningless games in November in this particular and unique sport. I would rather see Boise get a shot at Michigan or the top SEC team on the same day that OSU is challenged by another top foe. Let the voters finish the thing, their fingerprints are all over the process anyway. And don't tell me about BYU and the Holiday Bowl. The weaka** early commitment nonsense sunk the old system, the Cougar's should have faced a test that year. .
  6. Playing possum to take advantage of the Texans ? I kid, but really Indy and Green Bay aren't all that terrifying on defense. I would have liked to see the "83 yard pass play" earlier this season. It is obviously in the playbook. .
  7. Good, good news. I had forgotten about the Simpson's cameo... I had thought that might be the last of Mr. Pynchon. .
  8. Your fault Ed. If Rutger's knew they had a pimp on the Bills board, they'da mudered you in your sleep. Jinx. .
  9. The magic number is 41 carries in total. That is the average number of rushing attempts that the Marv Levy led Kansas City Chiefs had in his initial, will-breaking, 4-12 season. Only a lack of first downs is keeping Jauron and company from the boss' mark. Welcome to 1978, Bills fan. .
  10. Is this correct ? Not much better than 8-8 here. .
  11. If you choose to believe that this team is far from pathetic (as I do) then the ineptness is by design. The staff is imposing its will on its OWN team in the hopes that the team will at some point begin to impose its will on the rest of the league. Employing a power running attack with this collection of talent and turning Losman into the second coming of Joe Ferguson (instead of Jim Kelly) is a work of visionary genius. Or not. .
  12. The Bills can settle me down easily enough by getting more than 10 first downs and ninety yards passing this week. That would go a long ways in helping me get a grip. And the most important position in this era of salary cap football ? The Quarterback ? The Left Tackle ? Nope. It is the General Manager. Ugh... Genius and the Bulldog are standing on Losman's neck again this afternoon, talking about a Leinart like messiah to "change the culture". They just don't get it. The process is underway. It is ugly to watch, but long live Levy-Jauron Think. .
  13. Cheer up. They'll tease us with a little run at some point. The rookie safeties are much better since the bye and there's no telling who else might step it up. No cellar this year. .
  14. This is what makes Marv and company true mavericks -- I would argue that being patient and building a team slowly work against making money and selling out. This offense of willfull restraint that they run is not, and will not be, a stadium filler if they continue to lose. Marv is running wild and contrarian in his last go at it. Admirable, but risky. .
  15. GG - The St. Louis point is well made. At Colorado State Fairchild had a few All - Conference running backs but on the whole those Sonny Lubick teams used whatever talent was at their disposal. The Alouettes however were one of the best three down running teams of their era. Alot of CFL teams then ran the ball (not the crazy a** game it is today) and I suspect that Marv had success because his teams did it better. ( interweb support to come) And you guys better stop talking about the tight ends. That would be another Marv directional surprise in next years draft. Tight ends lead to giant H- Backs which of course leads us back to the DELAWARE WING T. Don't give the man any ideas !!! His first major signing was Robert Royal, after all. I still need to be convinced that the next few weeks (years ?) are going to be more about scoring points than running clock. .
  16. To Jauron, a green light to run means 40 SECONDS gone. Just like six draws on third down last week meant 4 MINUTES gone. This is less "turning J.P. loose" than another way to run clock. Turning J.P loose would be throwing the ball 40 times. The bizarre experiment in fan tolerance continues. .
  17. Not necessarily. Look at it this way. Would you rather bet on your quarterback having 11 possessions against Manning with his 9 ? That is your best case if you take the air out of the ball and turn them over twice. A sucker bet.
  18. Now, now, I don't ignore facts to suit my POV, I select them. Running the Wing T goes way beyond tinkering, it is truly outside of the box thinking. I think Marv grooves on the intellectual challenge of football and accepting the novelty of the K Gun following his stint in KC is not out of character if you can accept the point. Going back to the future with Jauron (as opposed to, say, Sherman or Martz) is the same sort of clever. Fairchild and the emergence of Stephen Jackson would be a reach ? Losman could go 17 for 30, 220 this week. Or not get anywhere near those totals until Week 10 of next year. If they continue to play 3 and half hour, ten possession, 50 play games his numbers will suffer no matter how well he plays. .
  19. There will be no unleashing. He is executing the game plan (except for the one or two crucial plays that determine victory). There is no other direction. Yes, I am tiresome.
  20. Fan think and fan think. When the running game becomes successful we will PASS more ? Sure, I understand the point but I fear running well will lead to more running in this grim high wire act of ball control offence. And why can't this line pass block even marginally ? They aren't as awful as we fans think -- they run block well enough to allow the Bills to compete. It might be a question of emphasis. Losman will be a fine Jauron quarterback as long as he can stomach 18 pass attempts a game and the abuse of the fans. No need to get anyone else. Lori, I will share in your boredom if the thing works.
  21. Not at all. But take his words at face value. This team might be moving towards leading the league in rushing attempts, not because it has to but because it wants to. Dig up the numbers on Jauron's Bears. It COULD succeed. If you thought Whitner was a surprise draft pick, wait until next year when they draft two or three running backs and couple of lineman from running teams. It is a possibility. Fan think is "stay the course" but the Donahoe gewgaws (Everrett and Parrish) aren't on the fast track any more than Losman is. The future is not likely to look like what most of us expect. .
  22. Losman ran a shotgun offense at Tulane -- the K-gun would be a wet dream for the boy. Nine games this year. Any shotgun ? .
  23. J. P. is a good soldier who can hand the ball to Anthony Thomas 28 times a game. Your third stringer might be able to do the same thing. We will find out if two guys get hurt. It is not a question of belief. .
  24. "Going at it" is not in the game plan. It may never be in the game plan. This team wants to run the ball, because it wants to run the ball -- not because it wants to protect Losman. If he can get used to 15-20 attempts per game, provide "chunkability" and a touchdown pass every other game, he can be here for the Jauron era. Get used to it. .
  25. Good God man, he brought in Galen Hall (who coached Florida in the 70's ?), not exactly a fresh move. And Butch Davis to North Carolina after Spurrier to South Carolina ? They both look like "lifestyle" moves -- they aren't exactly attractive jobs. I guess its true that you can't go home again. .
