We can all talk about "rules being rules," but a meaningful discussion would show that the Rooney Rule in its current state is a farce. C'mon, let's get past the concrete thinking. Everybody know "the rules" and can look them up. No need to mindlessly regurgitate them. OK, look at the Mora Jr hiring and look at the Mariucci hiring. It seems that there are ways around it. The Rams have publicly stated they want Haslett. If AAs want practice interviews, that's great. I am all for minority hiring, but I don't think the current system works. It seems that it punishes you if you want to hire someone without the intervewing process. It shouldn't do this - it's just not fair. What it should do is reward teams for interviewing/hiring minorities. Make it some ridiculous benefit - like millions in tax breaks - for the interviewing and hiring of minorities. This would be very enticing to owners who mostly are concerned about their wallets. Saying you can't just outright hire who want just seems unfair.

That's a pretty concrete train of thought.

Tell me, how is Jauron any more of a head coach than Haslett? And don't say because Haslett is an interim coach because they are doing the exact same job with the exact same goal.
-
Just out of curiosity, how many black candidates interviews for the Comish job?
-
Wait, is the NFL going to allow this? Shouldn't we have to interview African-American candidates just like the hoops the NFL is making the Rams do?
-
This really has nothing to do with race. The Rams want a particular guy and the NFL will not let them sign and retain him. Do they do this in any other field? This is just going to set up sham interviews at the end of the season - actually a detriment to the interviewing black candidates, a waste of their time. If I was black and looking for a HC job, I would refuse to interview there. As for Haslett, he already had his chance at a HC job and couldn't get it done. I sure he would be thrilled to have another HC gig wrapped up. Instead, his future hangs in the air. Having an unstable job like this would make anyone of us very uncomfortable. And how is this any different than our situation with Jauron? Suppose we give him an extension and the NFL rejects it and says we need to interview black candidates before we grant him an extension. You may say "well, he was already the Bills coach." Well, Haslett was already the Rams head coach too.

Can I please have back the 3 seconds of my life that I took looking at that garbage?

Don't worry, we're still getting no respect. Notice how they place us in the rear of all the other 5-1 teams.

Quarterback a gunslinger or game manager

JP's a gunslinger. -
Does anyone know where we can watch the injury on video? You know, to satisfy our own morbid curiosity? nm, here it is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i98BRd2FFuQ

Haven't you heard what Meshawn said last week? Miami's a contender! -

"Lights Out" -
I say lock Jackson up before the end of the season. He may be a RFA, but some team, likely Detroit or San Fran, will end up offering him a huge contract to grab him. Any casual fan watching the Bills game has seen how good he is and how much he contributes to our wins. Now think of scouts who are paid to watch NFL games. He is not a secret and will not be once FA begins. A team WILL offer him tons of money; a Turner-like contact, starter-type money. While the Bills will likely think he is worth it, but we will not be able to give him starter-type money. It is not in the best interest of the team to be giving 2 RBs starter-type contracts. We have other positions we need to strengthen; another DT, a DE, a center, an OLB. Not to mention Peters is still going to want more money. We will just not be able to match another team's offer if we want to remain a balanced team. And the teams that go to SBs are the ones that are balanced and are not spending a ton of money on one position (excluding QB). Just imagine the predicament we would be in if we matched Nate Clement's offer. We would likely not have Mitchell or Stroud playing for us right now.
-
I not too worried about getting Trent signed for an extension. As someone said above, elite QBs don't test the FA market. Eventually, he WILL get a ton of money. But, the urgency to extend him right now just isn't there. He isn't going anywhere, ever. Now, I think we should sign Jackson to an extension BEFORE the end of the year. As I understand, Jackson is a RFA, therefore we have the right to match any offer. But,what is likely going to occur is that some lowly team, like Detroit or the Texans, is going to offer him a boat load of cash that we will not be able to match. So, if Jackson makes it to FA, he is likely gone. He is too valuable to our offense to let go.

Go for it!
-
Zip it. Been discussed.
-
This season is becoming a nightmare for him.
-
Ever notice that every time the coaches call Jackson's number, we get great returns, but not so much with Lynch?
-
Good, I'm glad he's staying in KC. May his career flourish there! Someone pass that boy some tissues.
-
For this reason, I wonder how much longer Schobel is going to stay around. He's making a ton of money and is not exactly a game changer. Although, we really don't have anybody to replace him. We need QB pressure. We haven't had anybody that could single-handedly change the face of a game on defense since Bruce. Kelsay is also making too much money, but we also have no one decent to replace him either.

Tony Gonzalez didn't want to play in Buffalo
Saint Doug replied to JuanGuzman's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Phillie didn't hesitate sending us Walker, whom everyone knew he wasn't happy with his contract and wasn't going to report. As for that "special relationship," you're right. They did have a special relationship, but not likely anymore. -
What was the injury? A bulging disc?

Tony Gonzalez didn't want to play in Buffalo
Saint Doug replied to JuanGuzman's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm not blaming Tony G for this one. If Peterson had the stones and really wanted to trade him, he would have. What does Peterson care where Gonzo plays. Peterson's #1 job is to make the team better, not to swaddle their players, especially ones that don't want to play for their team. As far as I know, Tony G doesn't have a no trade clause. This is Peterson's fault for letting Tony G make the call. This stinks of when Reiger let Hasek trade himself. -
This is an excellent post. It is very strange that this was found now. People do not get "routine" MRIs of the spine unless they are having symptoms. You cannot see a disc herniation on plain x-ray and CT. The reason routine MRIs are not done, as Promo points out, is that a lot of us would have disc herniations. They mean nothing unless they are cause symptoms; pin/needle in legs, urinary/bowel incontinence, lower extremity weakness, or radiculopathy (shooting pains down legs due to herniation pressing against a lower extremity nerve). Therefore, there must have been some symptom(s) he was having. He reports the symptom to the Colts, then they get an MRI, then he is sent back here. Why didn't the Bills know about this? Either he was hiding the symptoms from Bills or the Bills knew about it and have already done their own MRI. Or, this is all smoke screen and there is something totally different wrong. Either way, its hard to tell if the herniated disc is really having a huge impact on his play. If it was, he could have easily had this surgically corrected. And even without surgery, depending on the severity, most of these injuries tend to self-resolve over weeks to months. As Promo points out, it's not his back, it's his heart.
