He's a great player, no doubt, but there will be players available of his caliber that pose less of a risk. By this, I mean, players who regularly played against better teams and better OLs. That's not to say KM is less of a player, but some GMs may be scared of his pedigree and play it safe with someone from a tougher division. If that's the case and he falls to the Bills, than that's great for us.

The Jets Message board is hilarious right now

We all probably have Jets board doppelgängers. -

Still, at the end of the day, they're still average dudes selling beer at a ball game to make ends meet, not the TSA. You add sale incentives, which I'm not sure they have, and the house of cards falls down. -

Anyway, I'm glad things worked out the way they did. Another trade could've change the whole dynamic of the rest of the 1st round, perhaps even impacting the way players were picked in the 2nd. Heck, we could've ended up packaging our 2nds to jump back into the 1st and then perhaps no Kiko, who may end up being our best pick in the 2013 draft. -
This ranking should come as no surprise as this was how Detroit's STs were doing last year. Crossman did not have a shinning resume, far from it.

Branden Oliver: A Place on the Bills?
Saint Doug replied to yungmack's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It is very prudent. Either this year, or next year, I would expect the Bills to pick a RB in the 1st or 2nd round. FredEx likely only has 1-2 seasons left in him, God love him. We do have Spiller signed through 2015, so maybe next draft is the best time to pull the trigger. I really don't see a position of need on this team that deserves a 1st round pick, besides TE. Perhaps an OLB, but our D is only going to better next year, even with the same personnel. DE? Mario is likely going to be gone after next season, so perhaps draft his replacement now. -

I've thought about that. Just raise the prices of beer and that would cut down on the drunken stupidity while at the same time potentially increase profits. As for structurally training the sellers on trying to identify people who've had too much, I think that's asking too much. Many of these sellers are making minimum wage and have less than a little education. At games, there are even sober people acting drunk. It would be too hard for them to gauge drunkeness and sell at the same time. Their pay may even be a function of how many beers they sell. Plus, there are hundreds of them. If one doesn't sell, another one will. Or, people will just get their buddies to buy them beer. Well, if that's true, then that's really a problem. If fans are witnessing this, then so should security. -

But these people are "experts" that are paid to do so. If we shouldn't expect them to "predict the future", then they should not be trying to do so under the guise of a profession. That said, I guess we're to blame for actually listening to these people and acting like they are doing a better job than any of us could. It's like people going to fortune tellers and getting upset their fortunes don't come true. Who's really to blame here? -
Branden Oliver: A Place on the Bills?

This draft may be a great time to draft Spiller's replacement. A guy who can grow older with EJ and Woods. I'm not saying Spiller doesn't have elite talent, as he does, but I just don't see the Bills paying elite money to a guy who hasn't shown to be an every down back. -

I hope he's ok too, but what could have been done by the Bills, in a practical sense, to prevent this? This guy went above and beyond stupidity. Plus, I respect how you left the Kiko autographed jersey out of this. It could have healing powers. -

It seems like this idiot picked the wrong guy to land on. Can't say I wouldn't sue either, but lawsuits seldom undue an event. If I were the Bills, I would pony up season tickets for life for this guy real quick, plus have Kiko sign him a football or jersey or some other keepsake. Still, I see little way the Bills could have prevented fan idiocy, short of banning alcohol at the stadium. You can't expect the beer guys and stands to be able to single out an overly inebriated fan at a game. It's not like a bar where there's less people and limited servers. -

Will Pettine be a Buffalo Bill next season?
Saint Doug replied to SageAgainstTheMachine's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Our D looks stacked on paper, like a Top 10 unit, which we aren't (yet). That said, the relative success the defense is enjoying is likely more of an indictment on how bad Wanstash was. -
But, the better teams stockpile picks. The team that continuously draft great replacements for their high price veterans will always beat out the teams that sign away those high priced veterans. This is how the rich stay rich (NE) and the poor stay poor (MIA). Truth is, it's not realistic thinking we're going to resign all our 1st and 2nd round picks plus the others who make it big (like K Williams and SJ). You might as well get something for the in return. This is going to become even more painfully apparent if EJ becomes elite and starts asking for elite money.

Who wants to apologize to Jairus Byrd?
Saint Doug replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Wait, why the hell would we apologize to a player who took off the first half of the season, then is now realizing he now has to turn it up in order to strike it rich this offseason? This is not just the case of a player turning in an effort during a contract season, but only putting forth the effort at the latest possible time. Besides, I could've made those picks. -
Wait, where are all the people posting the horrible rookie season stats of elite QBs? You do that to explain EJ, you also have to do it for Geno. Either way, jury's out for either one of them.

For those of you who gave up on EJ.....
Saint Doug replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I certainly was critical of his inconsistent development ("gave up" is a bit strong for my tastes), but was certainly surprised today. That performance against a D that shutdown Brees was very impressive. -
For those who have watched Manuel
Saint Doug replied to Mikie2times's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Are you out of touch with Manuel's entire body of work as a college QB? His (lack of) NFL development is paralleling his (lack of) development as a college QB exactly, except for him being injury-prone, which is new. Besides, his limited body of work as a NFL QB doesn't really change his potential for being a great NFL QB, which significant doubts existed even before he took a NFL snap. That's faulty logic. And, just because he was drafted by the Bills in the 1st round doesn't mean we should give him the benefit of the doubt. In fact, in this regard, he should be guilty until proven otherwise. The main difference between these two is that as college QBs, EJ couldn't even hold Wilson's jock. Wilson was a great college QB (unlike EJ), who's prospects were likely hurt by him being short, and I hate to say it, but probably also by the color of his skin. As physical specimens, Wilson was no Newton. -

Saint Doug replied to Mikie2times's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think Buddy Nix hiring Marrone and drafting EJ then stepping down was a very calculated move. I think it was Billick who said a GM becomes tied to the QB he selects and lives and dies by him. In the Bills case, Nix made his choices, then fell on his sword. While he may have had input, Whaley technically was not responsible for Marrone and EJ and could emerge unscathed if the current iteration of the Bills doesn't work out. -
Sometimes I think the Bills got "cute" in picking EJ, much in the same way they did with Whitner. If you look at EJ's whole body of work in college, he really wasn't spectacular and certainly not the best QB in last year's draft. Geno was, any way you slice it. Sure, Geno may have a bad attitude (which hasn't really surface in the pressure cooker of NY - many people were wrong here. We all predicted he would blow up) and EJ may have all the potential, but the pick was not based on EJ's college career.
