If the Bills re-sign Edmunds, they're stupid.
Billy Zabka replied to damj's topic in The Stadium Wall
Edmunds likes to hug guys down 8 yards past the line of scrimmage after being dragged a few yards. He was probably so shocked to finally be in the backfield here for once he forgot to make the tackle. He gets points for hitting the right hole and not running by the play. -

Doesn't really matter how fast Stutterstep McGee is when he runs right by the play, but he will keep racking up his hug tackles 6 to 8 yards downfield so his apologists can cite his big tackle numbers. -

Maybe having a poor tackler that shies away from contact and can't get off blocks as your MLB is not a good idea... -

Actually, I disagree with myself, Edmunds is an impact player. He did impact the game yesterday... When he totally ignored and ran by Fournette to run into the Bucs Olineman on the 47 yard TD that impacted the game... When Brady looked Edmunds off in coverage and picked apart his zone all day that impacted the game... When Edmunds had a clear shot at Fournette on the critical 3rd and 1 in the backfield and whiffed...that impacted the game When Edmunds couldnt make a tackle and got stiff armed by Parryman in Ot...that impacted the game -

Pro Bowl nods are meaningless, anything that takes into account fan voting is a joke. Unless you think Zemgus Girgensons was worthy of his all-star appearance a few years back. No Edmunds is not an impact player, but quite obviously the complete opposite. The Bills picked up Edmunds option thinking they could continue to develop this athletic freak and probable figured his age, lack of experience, and shoulder injury last year were factors in his lackluster season last year and he would improve. I'm guessing if they had a redo they wouldn't have guranteed his 12.7 million next year. -

Doesn't matter how big and fast you are if you can't get off blocks, aren't physical, constantly take the wrong 1st step and make the wrong reads, and make very few big plays. The Bills thought they could mold this athletic freak into a stud MLB but they failed and the sooner they come to grips with that reality the better. -

Glad more are coming around on Edmunds as the excuses fade and reality sets in. Great athlete...bad linebacker. Period. -

Case closed on Edmunds. You can have all the athleticism and size in the world but as a 3 down MLB if you can't diagnose a run play, get off blocks, or make impactful plays in the run game the you shouldn't be tying up big money on him. Bellichick exposed him tonight, he was abysmal. -

I know exactly what I get with Edmunds...mediocrity, indecision, and lack of big play ability. Great guy, great athlete, average MLB. -
Picking up Edmunds Option a Rare Beane Mistake

Although it was lowly Jets, didnt miss Edmunds out there at all today. Even without Lotulelei out there occupying blockers NFL journeyman.Klein looked every bit as good as Edmunds. In fact I think Klein had more TFL's today than Edmunds has his whole career. -
Edmunds is below average to average and Milano is injury prone. Im all for taking a flyer at the right price for Smith.

Picking up Edmunds Option a Rare Beane Mistake
Billy Zabka replied to Billy Zabka's topic in The Stadium Wall
Another "meh" game from Edmunds. Continues to miss tackles and not get off blocks. He looks below average at best out there to me and his pff numbers back up what I see. -
I think it's time, watching him play his 4th season, that we have to finally admit that Tremaine Edmunds is simply not a very good MLB. This is a glamour position in a McD defense and he rarely makes any plays. On top of that he struggles to even make routine plays. Sure he racks up tackle numbers and a bogus pro Bowl nod last year hugging guys down 8 yards downfield as a 3 down LB in the middle of this D, but that's about it. He grades out poor in coverage, misses tackles, struggles to get off blocks and is indecisive out there. Edmunds was probably the only weak link out there on D today and was outplayed by journeyman AJ Klein when he left the game with cramps. I wanted to give him time realizing that he was so young and learning a new position but 4 years is enough. The Bills who will be cap strapped next year should not have picked up his 12.7 million option because he doesn't warrant the salary, the trade up for the pick and option pick up will go down as a rare Beane whiff imo. I hope I'm wrong but I don't see it an Edmunds turnaround happening.

Didnt say anything about bringing in Mosley just that he is a far superior player to Edmunds. Nor would I release Edmunds as there is no cap benefit to it. Id see about bringing in an inexpensive vet and maybe draft a guy in the second to 4th rd for competition in case edmunds doesnt improve and maybe give him some reps as an edge rusher. Edmunds was a liability last year despite his "Pro Bowl" nod.

Because I want to improve at MLB where we got disappointing play last year and average play the year before, I "clearly mean we need to upgrade at all pro Bowl positions" -- I guess there is no sense in debating someone who will twist things around like that. You realize that Edmunds making the Pro Bowl was laughable. Maybe you like MLB's who make few big plays, have poor instincts, miss a lot of tackles, but rack up big tackle numbers hugging guys down 7 yards past the line of scrimmage but I don't. And yeah sometimes teams take too long to move on from 1st round mistakes, especially when you trade up for them. Mcdermott is an elite coach and Beane an elite GM but Its ok to admit they make mistakes, that way you dont have to always hug their nuts and pretend Edmunds is a better linebacker than CJ Mosley like you do.
-
Lol...That is quite the leap. Because I feel CJ Mosely is a better LB than Edmunds which he clearly is, and want to improve the MLB position on the Bills because I feel we dont get good enough play, I therefore want to improve QB, #1CB, and #1WR where we get elite play. Gimme a break. I'm not even saying the Bills should trade for Mosley, its not feasible... just that he is better than Edmunds and we need to improve the play from the position. And just because I think they missed on Edmunds being a good MLB doesn't mean I think Im smarter than them. Another ridiculous statement. Oh another one of those McBeane nuthuggers who thinks they are infallible. I didnt realize.

Dalton to the Cowboys 1yr $7M per Schefter
Billy Zabka replied to Process's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Pats are in salary cap prison and Hoodie is anxious to win double digit games behind some scrub qb to prove its him not Brady. -
If Dalton is willing to come here as a backup at a reasonable salary then signing him is a no brainer. Cut Barkley and save 1.8 million. Dalton may be able to teach Allen a thing or two and step in if Allen goes down and win some games.

Quinton Spain to re-sign with buffalo, 3 yr 15 million

Good pass blocker, poor run blocker with limited mobility. Was hoping Bills upgraded O-Line but its a reasonable contract so cant complain.
