Anyone notice that the Bills aren't leaving the Eastern timezone? Less travel, more energy for that late season push to Arizona

Turner is terrible! Look at him he is a backup!
CircleTheWagons replied to Cornerville's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Hmm. Ok. I thought your point was not to "overspend" at any position, which would prevent us from ever having a Tomlinson on the team. As long as your willing to spend "beyond your means" for superstars, then I guess I made your point. We're in agreement that Turner isn't a superstar at this point, but I'm not worried about Marv paying him like one yet. -

CircleTheWagons replied to Cornerville's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Average teams end up 8-8. Teams need to pay for talent - the best players at their position will be paid the most (outside your "balanced" spending). If you're unwilling to pay premium dollars for a player you will end up with less-than-premium players. -
Chris Simon , done for Season , Done for career?
CircleTheWagons replied to millbank's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Interesting ... the reason I heard he is suspended indefinitely is because he can't travel to Toronto because of post-concussion syndrome from the hit he took into the boards prior to his decapitation attempt. Simon is either smart, or at least smart enough (or experienced) to get a lawyer very quickly. I know that it's "only" hockey, but bringing in the post-concussion stuff is going to make the sports community take notice. -

I know about McSorley, I guess I wasn't clear. This was the first time that I want the police to charge a player. Hockey is hockey and ugly crap happens, but a two-hander to the face deserves jail time. -

Most savage thing I've seen on the ice. Bettman's job just became a lot more complicated. My guess is Simon's career is done - he will be suspended for at least this year and maybe next year. This is the first incident that I think the police need to get involved. A two-hander across the face, are you kidding me? Why not run your skate across his neck while you're at it. -
Here it is Thanks. It's at the 6:00 mark of Coach's Corner. Not really a clean hit, but Suter was probably taking out his frustration from the old Oiler - Flames rivalry.

My only problem with 4 on 4 overtime and shootouts is that some idiot is going to get it instated for the playoffs and I won't get to see another 6 period game. Also, if somebody remembers Gretzky getting clobbered, I want to share your memories. I have too many memories sitting in the Calgary Saddledome yelling "HIT THAT LITTLE F@#$&%!!!" while he danced around the offensive zone looking for Jari Kurri in front. Just once I would have loved somebody to wipe that smirk off his face on the ice.

First "Gentleman's" Super Bowl in a long time
CircleTheWagons replied to AKC's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I guess I saw the game differently. I saw two average teams play a very forgettable game in the rain. If that is how virtuous teams play, I would prefer a little less integrity and a little more intensity. -
This playoff run reminds me of the lesson I learned while watching Elway finally get his rings -the most talented QB cannot win a championship without a good defense and running game. That said, I suffered through a lot of bad football in the playoffs to see it happen. The Colts were beatable, just not by the Bears.

That line is just wrong in a football discussion. I have no doubt we will win this game - the Titans are another pretender that we are going to eliminate and send home with their fans talking about next year. I have christened this the schadenfreude season for the Bills and I'm enjoying every week. We are the measuring stick and the Titans will be that latest team to come up short on Sunday. -
'No Santa' school teacher axed
CircleTheWagons replied to Tux of Borg's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Virginia, your little friends are wrong. They have been affected by the scepticism of a sceptical age. They do not believe except they see. They think that nothing can be which is not comprehensible by their little minds. All minds, Virginia, whether they be men's or children's are little. In this great universe of ours man is a mere insect, an ant, in his intellect, as compared with the boundless world about him, as measured by the intelligence capable of grasping the whole of truth and knowledge. Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus. He exists as certainly as love and generosity and devotion exist, and you know that they abound and give to your life its highest beauty and joy. Alas! how dreary would be the world if there were no Santa Claus! It would be as dreary as if there were no Virginias. There would be no child-like faith then, no poetry, no romance to make tolerable this existence. We should have no enjoyment, except in sense and sight. The eternal light with which childhood fills the world would be extinguished. Not believe in Santa Claus! You might as well not believe in fairies! You might get your papa to hire men to watch in all the chimneys on Christmas eve to catch Santa Claus, but even if you did not see Santa Claus coming down, what would that prove? Nobody sees Santa Claus, but that is no sign that there is no Santa Claus. The most real things in the world are those that neither children nor men can see. Did you ever see fairies dancing on the lawn? Of course not, but that's no proof that they are not there. Nobody can conceive or imagine all the wonders there are unseen and unseeable in the world. You tear apart the baby's rattle and see what makes the noise inside, but there is a veil covering the unseen world which not the strongest man, nor even the united strength of all the strongest men that ever lived, could tear apart. Only faith, fancy, poetry, love, romance, can push aside that curtain and view and picture the supernal beauty and glory beyond. Is it all real? Ah, Virginia, in all this world there is nothing else real and abiding. No Santa Claus! Thank God! he lives, and he lives forever. A thousand years from now, Virginia, nay, ten times ten thousand years from now, he will continue to make glad the heart of childhood. -
It's Bills-Titans week, so I'm back

Why? Personally I look at the Titans and I see a team doing it with smoke and mirrors. If we keep special teams and turnovers even, I think we win this game going away. -
JP LOSMAN: IN THE TOP 10 QBS
CircleTheWagons replied to DrDawkinstein's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I would love to see him end up ahead of Rivers and finish the year as the top-rated QB from his draft class. It's fun to compare his progression to E. Manning, Rivers and Roethlisberger. With JP's improvement this year, those 4 might be competing for many years to come. 5 years from now we might be calling it the Year of the QB II comparing it to 1983. -

It's not like the Titans beat up the Jags - in fact the Jags kicked your butt up and down the field all day yesterday and your offense looked like it belongs in South Florida. The Titans are using "miracles" to pull out victories late in the season while the Bills continue to punish the pretenders and compete with the contenders. Leave your smoke and mirrors at home this week, they ain't gonna help. The Bills don't beat themselves anymore and I don't think your team has the weapons to compete yet. Besides, Henry's hands are too small to hold on to the ball in Buffalo - he's good for a couple of fumbles this week -
Losman named starter for 2007
CircleTheWagons replied to Ramius's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
As per Jauron. don't forget, he's still an illegitimate head coach to many on the board, chosen by a senile GM and rubber-stamped by an owner with one foot in the grave. Until Saban or Belichek approve Losman as our QB for next year, these announcements are meaningless. -

Well, even if you can't imagine it, at least you seem to acknowledge that communicating your idea effectively is the GOAL and spelling and grammar are tools to assist in the goal - which is the point. If you honestly believe that "breaking the rules" never helps communication, then I think you have been beaten up by too many message board posts. Here is a quote from the introduction to The Elements of Style: It is an old observation that the best writers sometimes disregard the rules of rhetoric. When they do so, however, the reader will usually find in the sentence some compensating merit, attained at the cost of the violation. Unless he is certain of doing as well, he will probably do best to follow the rules. After he has learned, by their guidance, to write plain English adequate for everyday uses, let him look, for the secrets of style, to the study of the masters of literature. For me, that book is the definitive guide to the basics. It's available online here -

I'll try again. You said the goal is correct spelling and usage. The only place where that should be a goal is in a Back-to-Basics English class. The goal is to share a thought, an idea, or argue a point. It's like saying the goal this weekend is for the Bills to stop LT. It's incorrect - the goal this weekend is to win the football game. Part of our strategy for winning may be to stop LT but it's irrelevant if we win the game. Similarly, if you can communicate your idea effectively, poor spelling or grammar doesn't matter. -

CircleTheWagons replied to McGill Bill's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Nope. The goal is effective communication. Correct spelling usually helps, but there are definitly times to break the rules, either for humor or to more effectively get your point across. -
Why would you do that? Two incompletions downfield and its 3rd and long before we punt into the wind and give them a good chance to tie the game before half. Having Losman throw deep into that wind with the other team playing extra DBs is positioning the team for failure. If Price could have taken the quick pass on 1st for about 20 yards then I think we would have tried to get points, but when it went for almost nothing they went conservative. Anything else would have been Mularkey-like in my opinion.
