  1. "Screwing him" in the sense that he won't see any amount close to the numbers listed in the Forbes article when he sells.
  2. I think that's why there will be some serious negotiations about revenue sharing among the owners. According to the article, each team received $116 million in shared revenue from TV and DirectTV. The Bills are not a very attractive purchase without that revenue. The other owners can easily screw Ralph out of a lot of money if the league alters the revenue sharing prior to Ralph selling.
  3. I completely agree with you. My worry for the Bills is that Ralph values Jauron's return well above zero over the next two years. In the last ten years, Ralph has made two significant signings in management - TD and now Jauron. Neither has improved the product on the field. I'm not sure Ralph is ready to spend big $$$ based on the return he had in his previous investments. I would rather see a complete top-down cleansing before we try and hire a new coach. I haven't decided if it goes all the way to the owner yet...
  4. I have always suspected that actors were not real people, now Pizza Hut confirms it.
  5. Well your original comment read like you were suggesting that RW shouldn't care about Jauron's contract when considering a new coach because it was a sunk cost. I was simply pointing out that it's not that a simple a business decision since any new coach has to have a return above Jauron's return over the same time frame worth the cost of his new contract. Your initial post read to me like RW should not consider Jauron's contract in future decisions, which is typically what people refer to in "sunk cost" discussions. With a full stadium and a limited ability to add additional revenue, where is the return for Ralph to replace Jauron rather than waiting a couple of years? Since we agree it's a replacement decision, do you really think Ralph will be convinced a new head coach will bring in the return to justify the change? There is little evidence that it has worked in Buffalo in the past.
  6. Sorry but this is not a sunk cost decision and I don't think your condescending tone really adds much to the conversation. It's a replacement project decision. The cost of the current equipment over its projected lifespan (Jauron) needs to be compared with the ROI of replacing the equipment with newer, more effective equipment. Of course, in sports the return of a new coach is not guaranteed and its value needs to reflect that. If you're going to call everyone idiots, it would be more effective if you knew what you were talking about. Your "one rule of economics" sounds like a guy with a hammer that only sees nails.
  7. Our returner fumbled and the Bills lost. The announcers kept repeating all game how he was the league's best returner last year - putting anyone else out there or telling him to take a knee if he's is endzone is the "conservative" or "coaching scared" call that everyone has been ragging on Jauron for. We had one of our best playmakers in a position to make a play in a big game and he failed. Quit blaming the coaches. Stay aggressive and keep attacking. I like how the team looked most of the night and I have more optimism than I had yesterday.
  8. The ability to renegotiate is part of the deal. I agree that players trying to do it too often may lose fan loyalty, but Peters deal definitely worked out for him and I'm willing to bet Marshall won't be struggling when this is all sorted out. If Marshall is traded the new team will be talking about a "fresh start."
  9. So, if he is playing below his pay rate, the team can terminat,e but if he is playing above his pay rate he should just suck it up and play out his contract?
  10. In the NFL the team doesn't have to live up to their end - they can simply terminate the contract and lose the player. As long as contracts aren't guaranteed, I think we will see holdouts. I like that the contracts aren't guaranteed because it gives the teams more flexibility, but I also don't blame players for trying to renegotiate early.
  11. The only problem is that most rookies seem to tail off at the end of the year - it seems to take a year to adjust to the longer season.
  12. Great quote. Didn't Sun Tzu coach the Raiders o-line under Madden?
  13. Great comment, and I completely agree. Tim, you are personally rebuilding my enthusiasm for the Bills one story at a time.
  14. So, sometime next season then?
  15. I'm not sure why anyone hasn't mentioned it yet, but performing in that heat in Jax last weekend could have led to the flat performance this week. It's not an excuse, but that was a tough game in the heat last week and these guys aren't robots.
  16. I guess I'm just not as willing to put 100% of the blame on Fairchild. When I hear that our QB isn't allowed to call audibles, I think it speaks to his grasp of the offense. I guess I'm uncomfortable with Kelly's post that implied that Losman would be successful in the current environment - I honestly believe that our offense is more sophisticated this year because of Edwards' ability to learn the playbook. I admit I have no proof, just a gut feeling. Hopefully we don't have a chance to find out, but if we do, I hope I'm wrong
  17. I know this is the common wisdom on the board, but I just don't believe it. Trent is a much better field general than Losman and that allows our team to perform better. I think we should recognize that our offense is much better because of Trent. I think our play-calling is better partly because the coaches trust Trent and his ability to understand and execute the gameplan. Even the defense is better because of longer sustained drives on offense. I haven't figured out how to give Trent credit for special teams, but I'm working on it
  18. Jauron said at the end of his post-game interview that it was a naked bootleg.
  19. I can't believe Chris Farley has been gone for over ten years
  20. One more sign that the NFL has become more business than sport. A player can't change his name, or even the number on the back of his jersey, without permission from a sponsor? I'm not a big fan of Chad whatever, but he legally changed his name and should be allowed to wear his surname on the back of his jersey.
  21. I don't mind being down at #17 after our first game, but Seattle at #18? Either give the Bills more respect for dominating an average team or punish the Seahawks for being blown out by an average team.
  22. Buffalo should be embracing the CFL - after the Bills move to Toronto in a few years, perhaps the Argos would be willing to play a couple of games a year at the Ralph.
  23. With only a day to prepare, I think the CFL team would win - most players take a lot longer to adapt to the CFL game. Not only 3 downs, a wider field and deeper endzones, but the d-line are a yard of the line of scrimmage, all the eligible receivers are in motion before the snap, only a 25 second clock between plays and an extra player on the field. The CFL talent is clearly below the NFL but the game is different enough that there aren't too many players that can come into the CFL and dominate right away. My prediction? Grey Cup champs win by a rouge.
  24. This is my favorite defense because it has a ring of truth to it.
  25. I didn't think they are worried about the April 20th deadline - it was my understanding that if they signed him as a RFA and San Diego didn't match, it would cost the Bills a 1st and a 3rd draft pick - which is more that we are willing to give. If a trade happens, I'm sure it will be contingent on a new contract for Turner.
