  1. What also hurt DK was the lack of routes on film that showed he had any type of agility, that coupled with poor combine numbers paint a picture that he may have a very low floor, which slid him down the boards
  2. The only way to get a top 3 WR is to move up, whether we do that or not will be based on what we do in UFA and how the draft unfolds and to me that is moving to 13 or 14, which is quite palatable in terms of actual, realistic cost. Going higher than those picks will cost us a #2 this year or RD1 next, which is why it is imperative they get their board right and really know the difference between the WRs. Get too cute you waste or picks or get a prospect who will take a year or 2 too long to develop. I don't see Edge or OT at #22 being that viable, the ones worth taking in RD1 will be gone and the relative value of the next tiers aren't worth pushing up at that pick. Personally I'm not an Epenesa guy (I think he goes to ATL at 16 anyways - if they don't slide back for more picks). There is no way the top OTs fall to #22 and there is good value for RT in the 30s-40s as most boards stand right now. It is the CB/S position that sticks out like a sore thumb at #22 for BPA and I hate it The traits for us are (in no part. order) 1.) developed route tree (w/o an AJ green-ish UFA, we can't wait 2 years for this guy to learn a tree) 2.) quick separation ability 3.) good hands & can adjust to make catches (not everything is going to be perfect) 4.) ability to learn to/can read defenses to adjust routes 5.) generate YAC 6.) can stay healthy (good medicals) 7.) is a danger to score when the ball is in his hands = he needs to be a playmaker 8.) around 5'11" 190lbs and up 9.) no slower than a 4.5-ish
  3. The "mock" drafts, I would say especially with the Buffalo pick (since they don't know **** about this team) is simply lining up team needs against someone's "big board" without looking more into it than that. I think that is okay for RD3-7, but IMO RD1 & 2 need to be based more on this simple mindless thought process. DBs fit really nice around #22 - #32 and if we stay there, that is what we should be taking as that will very likely be BPA in the top tier of the remaining players based on positions. We have 10 more days until Tags have to be locked in and 16-18 days until UFA vistis can begin and signings. Lots of fun coming up to plug our holes and then we can really start digging into what we and the 21 teams in front of us should do in RD1.
  4. and getting dinged up and limited in his route tree and has the dropsies every now and then. There are better prospects I would take instead of him in RD2, he not a #22 or RD1 guy for me
  5. I didn't read the word "chase" at first and my mind hopped to this guy
  6. Speed is a good thing and it is easy to get wowed (good or bad) at the combine warriors. 1.) DK's agility at the combine last year and the routes on his tape did not show the use of those athletic traits, which is why he fell. Had he ran a more diverse route tree that showcased that he possessed those traits, he would have certainly gone higher than he did. I get the cause for concern and his slide down the board, high ceiling and very low floor. 2.) I was a wrong Josh guy, but when I did watch Allen at the combine, it was hard not be enamored with his arm strength. The overall rawness to his game and the amount of work he would need to hopefully be the guy scared me off as a guy who, honestly was a much more polished prospect. I am more than ok with how things turned out for us. In the long run it is looking like we got the best in the bunch, but Rosen has been dealt a terrible card thus far in his career. Ruggs's game film shows he can run a diverse tree and good routes, when he stops on a dime - his acceleration back to top speed is unbelievably fast, he can make back shoulder catches, he can make contested catches - even going up with his 42" vert to grab them, he can wiggle free from defenders while be covered, he has excellent hands. This is all stuff demonstrated on film consistently. The combine isn't going to affect his stock in anyway unless he ran a 4.1 or a 4.4 or worse; the tape doesn't lie. Jefferson did well yesterday, I like what I saw in his game tape and honestly in the championship game he was better than Higgins, who has been rated higher on the early rankings. His 40 time might have affected some teams views on him, but they shouldn't be changing their boards based on it - when does a WR run a route like a 40 in a game and how often? It is more is he quick enough to gain separation with his speed and moves and get in a position to have the ball tossed his way.... People call him a smurf, he is what 5'11" - 6'0" and 190 pounds, Jeudy is 6'1" 193 pounds - not much of a difference and his vertical ability more than makes up for the 2 inches. It is the added element of the explosive athleticism he has that no one else and he still has a lot of room to grow.
  7. Watch the clips in the article, great route running, contested catches, adjust for the ball. Ruggs & Smoke with Beasley in the slot and Knox/TE upgrade & Singletary in the space underneath...it would be a dream. Gonna be the first WR off the board Ruggs, Jeudy then Lamb
  8. He just needs some hate the cracker/ black panther stuff on his twitter now
  9. I like Mims better than Higgins and I'm not big on Shenault either...
  10. You are paying to move up for these guys...
  11. I am really think ruggs jeudy and lamb is the order He ran a 4.77 ? As always watch the tape and don't fall in love with the workout data here...
  12. I hope the 4.31 causes ruggs to fall to 14 ish.
  13. https://www.cover1.net/henry-ruggs-alabama-nfl-draft/ This is a prospect who has grown and developed as a route running technician during his three years at Alabama. He’s developed so much in that area that he’s quietly become one of the better route runners in the entire draft class, which would not necessarily have been the case at this time last year. Ruggs’ quickness aid his releases against press coverage at the line of scrimmage, but his footwork is also crisp. Rarely do you see him waste movements out of his stance or in his stem, and he’s constantly gaining ground and re-setting the line of scrimmage in his favor. Against LSU, he showed how dangerous his combination of footwork at the line of scrimmage and explosiveness at the top of the route can be.
  14. Rivers played for Reich in SD and most rumors have Rivers in Indy as of now
  15. McD is full of coach speak and he has to say the right thing about his players at all time being the leader of them all. It is hard to use much of what he says as far as insight, Beane on the other hand is absolutely as transparent as he can be without divulging his board and rankings or otherwise tipping his hand. You can also easily match up what he says with his past behavior as well which allows us a certain degree of predictability
  16. Beane very clearly stated your first comment last year in regards to the TE class and that is why they took Knox, he was the last one available in the talent range and the drop off after that was huge. In regards to pick #22, and assuming we stay there, it is very likely that DE and RT will not be the positions of value at that pick (RT would be a horrible overdraft based on talent and the actual positional value itself in relation to RD1) - as of now CB is a great position of value at that pick. At #22 if the top 3, I like how you conveniently leave Ruggs out (who is being viewed now as possibly the best WR in the class) - that shows some bias on your part or not fully looking at him as a player, I'm not sure what it is, but you should really spend some time looking at him and also look at alot of the recent commentary coming out regarding him - you seem to have a bias against him. A deep WR draft means that talent can be found throughout x number of rounds, but top end talent is still top end and limited as far as the WRs or any other positions go. The fact is there are 3 very high ceiling WRs that the depth of the draft does not impact in terms of elite talent; they are a cut above the rest. And we are very light on elite talent at WR adn on offense in general, which is directly tied to not scoring enough points. Anyways, if those top 3 are gone, WR should get pushed down to another RD the difference between Higgins, Shenault, Jefferson, Aiyuk et al and Mims and further down is much closer in talent than those top guys. DE looks better in RD2/RD3 than at 22 as well. Epenesa, does not look like that much better of a pass rusher than Lawson (who was in hindsight overdrafted based on his pass rush ability - players like him can be found later in the draft). I will eat my hat if we trade down from #22 and that would be an awful decision, we need impact players and not trying to fill out a roster. Beane has even said that he would prefer to trade picks to move up (in any round) or for future picks; since those players will likely not push the vets or make the team. We either stay put or move up. RD1 should be used for positions that have a high AAV in contract terms and are highly sought after skill positions (Beane has also said this); frankly RT is not that. DE is most likely to be addressed in FA; there are clear upgrades that will hit FA. With your comments, it comes off as you are pushing talent up the board to fit needs and that is what our past GMs have done and that is how you get into trouble.
  17. Or the receiver will be better and we will take him is what he says after what you stated.... In regards to what you posted, I think this starts to ring true once the top 3 WRs are gone, after them, the next couple groups are relatively close in talent and it will be easier to push the WRs down in RD2 into RD3, especially with RT talent that should start in RD2. Not a comment to you, but just in general: None of this is different than he has said in the past. Need to get the board right and draft the best player on it; if you see a top tier guy drop, especially in a position of need, we will be aggressive in moving up to get him. Everything is very fluid. While i am glad we made the playoffs this year and won as many games as we did, man it would be nice to be sitting around the mid to late teens...
