  1. But if you aren't scouting underclassman, you apparently aren't looking at the upcoming draft classes that well either. It is ok to move up in the draft, but you have to be smart about it. Atlanta went up for Julio once they had Ryan. Can't fault the QB needy teams for moving up to grab a QB either. I also wouldn't have been to upset if we took Mack #4.
  2. That is on the players as well. This has been a team that once adversity hits, they crumble. There is no Talley type player to get in the face of his teammates who didn't even try to tackle and were playing half speed... I'm not sticking up for Rex, but there are 2 sides to this coin...
  3. I don't disagree with any of this; it is spot on. When I said "All-in" on EJ, I was implying your last point and our total disregarding of the position. I'm sorry, but hanging your hat on TT and a project like Cardale is unacceptable once the guy you went "all-in" as a leader of men and a gem flamed out horribly... We don't do good job drafting players that stay on our team; whether it is because they suck or no longer fit a scheme is another story. Remember we are trying to model "The Steeler Way" which is draft smart, re-sign your own and add a few FAs here and there. We don't draft smart, we do resign our players, but the ones we have re-signed honestly don't make that much different in total record. Case in point look at our records with Jauron and Gailey and Rex and Marrone - yeah these is more talent, but the difference between 6-10 and 9-7 is not that much. We beat the teams we should beat and lose the ones we need to win. For how long have we said, oh we could be above .500 if we kicked that FG or made that one play. Same old $hit
  4. Oh it definitely would have slipped, as we all saw with Mario this season. What I actually like out of Schwartz's D is that it is easier to find players talent-wise and allows the players to go out there and make plays. I also liked the continuity aspect of it for the players (the Defensive players loved him - Kyle especially), as well as the fact that our last 2 drafts may have gone much differently... The revisionist history that it was this dominate defense that shut everyone down, is not necessarily true. The team still folded during crunch time when you are faced with win and in type playoff implications... They are the perfectly defined dysfunctional franchise that lacks a cohesive vision and talent in key front office positions. I feel bad for Hue Jackson and Ray Horton actually...
  5. They sure are. I'm not a huge Rex fan, but you don't make this move unless you can upgrade the coach. I really don't think you can upgrade the coach if you can Rex after 2 seasons and keep this front office in place; especially with the history out there now of Whaley not getting along with the last 2 HCs.
  6. The only way Rex should go is if it is a full house cleaning...
  7. This is damning: The process predates Whaley, but he has maintained an old-school organizational philosophy of not scouting underclassmen until they declare for the draft in January. "I knew there used to be teams that did it that way," a longtime NFC scout told me. "I just thought they didn't exist anymore." "We start at the beginning of their junior years by identifying who might declare to come out," said another NFC personnel executive. "We used to wait, but there've been too many poor decisions made. You need ample time to research the players." The Bills' roster will remain in flux this offseason. Partly because they rely on more free agents than any other club, the Bills lead the NFL in players on expiring contracts. But most importantly, this should be what happens: "In three years, maybe he's not, and then I'll be sitting there, saying, 'Guys? Anybody got a job for me?' All in all when you take a step away from ledge and the kool-aid drinking, what mastermind who knows how to direct narrative and feed information that drives the hope and belief of the fans and sells the seats to fill the stadium. I mean how else do you market this? Who's hands could be masterfully stroking the narrative? ^This Graham really painted the picture as to how "All-in" with EJ they really are...

  9. $5.5 million a season... http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2016/12/18/rex-ryan-denies-knowing-hes-out-admits-not-talking-to-ownership-about-his-status/ “I talk to my owners all the time,” Ryan said. “I talk to them all the time. In fact, on Saturday we went in, we discussed our game-plan like we always do, so I talk to them all the time.” So has he asked them if he’s getting fired? “Well I know what my job is, my job’s to get this team ready to go and so that’s what’s important to me,” Ryan said. “I guess I’m a little more confident in myself, my abilities then maybe others are.” That doesn’t make much sense. With rumors and reports mounting, at some point Ryan needs to say to Terry and/or Kim Pegula, “Do you want me here or not?” Maybe Rex doesn’t want to start down that path because ego and pride eventually may prompt him to quit, walking away from his buyout. Or maybe he knows darn well what’s going on but doesn’t want to acknowledge it.
  10. Sigh...that it is... You have to be able to bring in an upgrade. My feelings have been that everyone must go if you decide to pull the plug on Rex. You simply cannot fire him and keep the FO and be able to bring in an upgrade. Lynn is not really an upgrade...
  11. John Wawrow ‏@john_wawrow 2m2 minutes ago #Bills C Eric Wood backs Rex and continuity in message to Pegulas. Tells AP: "This isn't hockey." http://pro32.ap.org/article/bills-c-wood-backs-rex-ryan-relaying-message-ownership "This isn't like hockey where you scrap your franchise guy that you know is coming like an Eichel or McDavid," Wood said, referring to Buffalo's Jack Eichel and Edmonton's Connor McDavid, the top two picks in the 2015 draft. "This is football. You can get a No. 1 draft pick, and the best guy on the board is a tackle that year, and a tackle doesn't change your franchise."
  12. YardsPerPass.com ‏@YardsPerPass 13m13 minutes ago To me, Rex staying on is more of a marketing problem than a football one
  13. I will go out on a limb and say Pegs is pissed there are leaks and has made that known through out the organization. I do believe the rumors the past week were accurate, even jw had that sense, all we can do now is wait and see....
  14. Jeremy White ‏@JeremyWGR 5m5 minutes ago Stories that Saint Marrone led a rag tag group of misfit Bills to a winning record & he’s a young Parcells/Lombardi bout to drop in 3, 2, 1 He also is still taking the team charter flight back to Jax....Awkward?
  15. Dump Russ and hopefully the newly created VP of Football operations dumps the rest
  16. Why would you put your best tackle on the right side (besides having a lefty for a QB)?
  17. I hope he is truly pissed and he should be. He also needs to understand that it is not coming from Rex....
  18. I saw that Mary Wilson is at the game, wonder if the Pegs invited her to try and sell them back....
  19. The offense was awful, although not at all on Orton. The D blew it in Oak was where I was going with that.... btw I wanted us to hire Schwartz as HC at the end of the season...
