  1. Sorry if I misunderstood, i haven't had a ton of time today at work to drive into much. I'm not sure an aspect of coaching ST is to help the guy be able to field the point or kickoff cleanly, that is more of a core skill that should be developed through repetition and experience at the position. Yes the coach can give pointers on how to position yourself and such, but there is that line of individual capability. It works that way in any line of work, as a leader or teaching someone on how to execute a task or a process, you look at your training process, you look at the people doing the training and eventually you get down to the skill level and ability. Players still have to play and execute. If a WR who beat some competition out at camp and won a job and started dropping the ball all the time, would be placing blame on the WR coach? Players are part of that equation as well. Same goes for out punter who is awful. Now an argument could be made that these players had no issues and were great and the techniques the coach taught them screwed them up. He joined us in 2019 and nothing in this role with his previous teams seem to stand out as we finally got rid of that guy and the teams improved tremendously after he left. Therefore, I'm scrutinizing the players more... Btw, my point was that for the mess up at the end of the game, I find it hard to say it is a fireable offense for those 13 seconds.
  2. Coverage units were good, players stayed in their lanes, not many big returns given up. That is more coaching vs 1 on 1 matchups... You can only coach up players so much. When it comes to blocks, were the other teams selling out to block the punts to try to score points since they can't keep up with our offense and Josh? This is multifaceted
  3. All good points, McKenzie being thrust into the role was us letting Robert's walk (cap situation obviously). That didn't work out well, that is a player who is not comfortable out there and not having other realistic options. Is that the coach? That is more on the player and the organization imo. Same can be said for Haack, who was not good. It sure doesn't sound like Beane was impressed as he was inconsistent. They didn't want to make a move because of the kicking situation. With the limited practice time, not 1 team used QB2 as a holder this year.... I would have to go back and look at the 6 punts you are referring to, how much of that is a player getting beat or even Haack taking a second too long or a bad angle?
  4. One would think this will change next year, I'm sure the players realize that home field would be nice to have now...
  5. I think you are correct here and they chose to play it safe instead of having Hill take a crossed to the house again. Sal was talking about it on wgr yesterday, there is a good chance Levi a made a mistake on Kelce as well. Throughout the season, they are taught to guard the line and don't let them beat you outside and to funnel the play back in, which is apparently how Wallace played that last defensive possession in regulation.
  6. Blocks happen... https://www.si.com/nfl/talkoffame/nfl/rick-gosselins-2021-nfl-special-teams-rankings Rick Gosselin is excellent at this, the STs were not bad
  7. It's not going to satisfy the curiosity of the fan base, look at everyone on here saying fire Sean, fire beane fire frazier etc... Some kids spray painted mckelvins lawn after his fumble
  8. Without a doubt always need to make sure the right calls are mad and everyone knows what to do. This is what wins in the playoffs and the SB and why as much as I despise bellicheck, he is great at. I have no doubt McD will never let this happen again, it was unfortunately a big gap that was missed by many people...
  9. Turner has Isiah on the last couple weeks breaking down his plays. I'm not being a fan of, but it does seem like he has some connections within the team...
  10. Not sure it is fireable, that is on mcd to error proof that process. It's unfortunate, but it is a gap in your process. The coaching staff will fix it and put countermeasures in place to prevent it from happening again. Aside from Haack (and this kick), the unit was good all season. FWIW, Jay Felly told Sal Cappacio he would kick it out of the end zone since so many weird things can happen on a kick off, which is true.
  11. It's a system failure, not one coach or player noticed he wasn't there, this includes Bass
  12. I would even say flustered and fold, if this is true the execution was no one filled in the kicker. In this situation every player was focusing on what their responsibilities are, seems like the ST coach should have ensured all 11 players were there and accounted for. How no one realized Bass wasnt filled in is a big failure on the coaching staff's shoulders, not one other playing noticing he wasnt there is unfortunate. The failure was making sure all 11 were there when it was told....
  13. This is based off of a Cover 1 video last night. I haven't had a chance to watch it yet
  14. We are evenly matched with KC and are a perennial playoff team. The last 3 games with kc, kc 100 buff 98. If we won the toss, we would be playing Sunday. Those are the top 2 teams. The question to ask is, how much better (if any) can u get in one offseason? A scheme change on D is not the answer. Is there a glaring weakness that 1 piece can upgrade or do you make your strengths even stronger? The natural grieving process is not calling for everyone's head. Am I pissed, sad full of disbelief- yup, but it's how do we take that next step and fixing what broke down. Just like players have to grow and get better, so does the coaching staff. The execution failure could have been the kickoff, Levi playing as he was taught throughout the season to not get beat to the outside or a failure in the communication chain from McD to the St or DC, from those coords to the players, or from player to player. You put a process in place to error proof that.
  15. So now the board wants to keep McD to get more FAs to sign with us?
  16. It's a tight rope to walk this year, but we will have multiple windows through Josh's career. A drafted wr will need a year or 2 to be able to be effective enough to be a regular player. Beasley I just don't know what we do with, his cap # is too high and I'm not sure he would take a cut to stay. I also balance that out with his social media this season I would imagine both Beane and McD were not happy with it. We may draft a WR, but don't be surprised if we go the vet route again to buy a little time. OL is a concern since we will lose Feliciano, Morse would be a huge loss. OL in FA don't hang around long and you always over pay in FA. This position much like CB get even more overpaid due to the time it takes to develop them and there aren't a million of the like wrs and rbs. With tre going down, I'm certain the scheme changed a bit to limit Jackson's exposure. He certainly got better playing, but I'm not sure I want him to be cb2. I almost think this is the position you spend on in FA or via trade and get a little splashy. Edit: we also can't turn a strength into a weakness and limit our passing game options. We build on our strengths there
  17. Oh we definitely have to worry about when Tre will be back and how well he will hold up over the season. It is a large concern of mine... When I say push the chips in, I mean load up for a 1 to 2 year run (with some older fellas) and have 1 down year the following season with the expiring contracts. Look at how the Pats changed their team over the course of Brady's career - that is a bit more where I was going with that...
  18. No it's a 24m dead cap hit for them
  19. How do our players fit in a fangio scheme? How many years to do spend churning the roster for it?
  20. Seems like you fail to recall what we need with a wr and knowing the route trees and making reads and adjustments and being on the same page as Josh, hard for a rookie to do. This is one reason why Davis didn't play a whole ton this year and we brought in Sanders. We are at the stage where we will lose depth, which is why this year was a great year for us to run it back, unfortunately we came up short. We have to be very careful about who gets swapped out and how many players you end up replacing in key positions. One of the things that makes our offense great is being able to spread the ball around, depth can't be taken away from there, you just can't expect a rookie to jump right in.... A diggs extension will knock his cap number down
  21. IIRC, the 10.9m is based on the contracts falling off the books. The difference of the sum of the top 51 under contract plus the roll over plus the dead cap and then deducted from the cap of $208m.
  22. It's going to be tight and we do have to watch how the restructures will impact future years. It comes down to what year or 2 you push the chips in, knowing that you will have one year where the bill comes due and you have to time that right. CB is not going to be a simple position to fill and I'm fairly certain Levi is gone, unless he takes quite a bit less...
