  1. I would love Vita as well and if we took a QB last year, we could have gone after him this year. At some point, you have to get this done and you will lose out on other good players - C'est la vie... I do not see us taking Jackson, as I am not sure he fits what Beane looks for in a QB (copied from another thread) Here are the top things Beane looks for from 3-4 different interviews: 1.) If you're a GM, you have to have a franchise QB 2.) Leadership abilities 3.) Throw from the pocket 4.) Accuracy from the pocket very important - tighter windows 5.) Arm Strength - love it, can improve it a bit 6.) Stand in there - trust his reads, make the throws 7.) NFL too fast & different for sandlot football 8.) Good size - not worried about lineman in their face We'll talk to some of their teammates who were with them for several years in college, we'll talk to people back at their high school. We'll do anything and everything to really know who this person is, what makes them tick as a person, and obviously we'll get into the X's and O's. Does he work hard in the film room? Does he understand what he's seeing? What has he been though? What's the system he's been in? Has he audibled plays? Does he call the plays out in the huddle? Does this guy take snaps from center? All of those things you have to go through, and we're basically just building a library on each player." As they should...you make your own destiny
  2. It is still putrid.... Our record does not change when players are injured. You are what your record says you are and the Bills are 24-24 under TT and they have no passing offense...
  3. Don't get me wrong I love White, but I'd rather have the QB...Just like in the suprbowl, the Eagles D was awful and Foles was able to keep scoring...that is how you beat Brady and win...score more points
  4. And in the end it doesn't make a god damn difference, QBs win you games...I can't believe I sound like BillfromNYC right now, but oh well...
  5. I agreed with Jeff and wasn't sold on Watson (still not, only a handful of games). This draft would be entirely different and we would be in a much better position because of it. You can only kick the QB can down the road so many times...
  6. If the roles were reversed, I would be upset that we let a QB go by us. I'm still pissed at both Watson & Mahomes last year, for a CB (a great one so far, but still)..
  7. So what's the record when Sammy is out, when Dareus is suspended etc? The Bills in that time frame are 24-24, granted 23-20 is far from good as well...
  8. Brandon Beane on QBs From May 2017 Brandon Beane: Well, you know, I've been around all shapes and sizes... from Steve Beuerlein, to Steve Bono, to Jake Delhomme, to Cam Newton. The one thing that you have to have: you have to have the intangibles. You have to have the leadership qualities. You've got to get guys to follow you. It is a quarterback league, and if you don't have the leadership in the other guys, that's 11 guys on the field -- if they're not following you, it just doesn't work. I've seen quarterbacks that have arm talent. We've known the names in this league -- I'm not going to call them out -- that have all the talent in the world and they've been first-round picks.... but they aren't leaders. You've got to start there. You want to be able to have a passer that can throw from the pocket. It's good to be mobile... we love that. And obviously, Tyrod brings that, and I think Peterman has some things like that. You know, all these guys have some different qualities... there's not one thing, but, at the end of the day, quarterbacks in the NFL must be able to throw from the pocket. Joe B: What's tougher to teach in your opinion... or, what's tougher to learn in the NFL: arm strength, or accuracy? Brandon Beane: You know, you love arm strength. You can't teach arm strength. You can probably improve it a little bit... ... But, the accuracy is very important. You know, the guys are not as open in the pros as they are in college, and so, it will show if you've got a guy that's inaccurate from the pocket. Joe B: One more on the QBs. Do you like your quarterbacks to take some chances every once and again? Because like you said, tight windows in the NFL, and it almost necessitates it. Brandon Beane: Yeah, I mean, calculated risk... whatever you want to call it. There are some times when they are going to have to thread the needle. It's third and long, and it's late in the game, and we've got to get this play, and they're going to put a spy on the quarterback or something like that... he's got to stand in there, trust his reads, trust his progressions... and sling it and make the throw. You have to do that. In college, you see a lot of running quarterbacks that can just make a play with their own. Everything breaks down and it becomes sandlot football, and you do see some plays in the NFL, but the speed is so different here. It takes a special player to do it, and to do it often... and again, the pounding that you take. We saw that in Carolina last year. Cam took more hits last year than he had in the previous years, so, it's a tough league. And again, I'll go back to it: You have to be able to throw from the pocket. From July 2017 "It's a quarterback league. I mean, who are we kidding?" Beane said. "If you look at the playoffs teams, the consistent guys that at least qualify for the playoffs or are close every year, most of them have QBs, most of them have a legit quarterback. If you want to use the word franchise, whatever word you want to use, so I understand that. Cam in Carolina was, is, a franchise quarterback. If you're a GM, you have to find a franchise quarterback. It obviously helps keep you on a consistent playing field if you have one, so I get that." So what does Beane look for in a quarterback? "Obviously, you draw them up, from a physical standpoint, they look like Cam (Newton)," Beane said. "But how many are there like that? You want a guy, the stature, the height, you know, they're standing over, they're not worried about linemen in their face. It gives them the vision and all that. Arm strength. But the one thing that people I think miss a little bit when they're watching, you know, the college game schematically has just been so dummied down that these guys know before the ball's snapped right where they're going. There's no progressions. There's no audibiling. That's the challenge that the college guys have, and it's brutal. And these quarterbacks that are getting drafted high that have never taken a snap from center, have never called an audible. That's tough. The intangibles are the other thing that you can't necessarily measure from the film. I can turn on the film and watch some things. You obviously want to see quarterbacks live, but what's this guy's makeup? What's his leadership? Do guys rally behind him? I go back to Carolina. Jake Delhomme, one of the greatest leaders I've ever been around. He was undrafted. The guy willed himself to lead the team the years he was in Carolina. His intangibles were a 12 on a one-to-10 scale. And that's how he overcame his athletic limitations. I kind of went around the question a little bit, but you're looking for a lot of things, some of it physically we can all see. But a lot of it you can't necessarily see." From January 2018 "It's a quarterback league, and until you know you have the guy that you're definitely going to build this team around and the offense around, you're constantly searching," Beane said with Howard Simon and Jeremy White on WGR Wednesday morning. "The teams that makes the runs in the playoffs consistently have a franchise guy that they lean on year in and year out. We're still in the process of getting that accomplished." We'll talk to some of their teammates who were with them for several years in college, we'll talk to people back at their high school. We'll do anything and everything to really know who this person is, what makes them tick as a person, and obviously we'll get into the X's and O's. Doe he work hard in the film room? Does he understand what he's seeing? What has he been though? What's the system he's been in? Has he audibled plays? Does he call the plays out in the huddle? Does this guy take snaps from center? All of those things you have to go through, and we're basically just building a library on each player." I'm going to get one that I think is the right guy for our team, for this organization, and skill set wise that we're looking for. Good coaches will take whatever this quarterback's strengths are and work it into the offense. We all know if you draft a guy for a certain coordinator or certain system, that guy goes on and does well and becomes a head coach, and a new guy comes in here and has a different system that doesn't fit the quarterback, that doesn't make sense. We'll draft a guy with a skill set that we think fits, and it will be up to the offensive coordinator and the offensive staff to accentuate whatever his strengths are and hide the weaknesses." Edit to add: I just looked at 3 different articles, but these are the 8 items that always come up 1.) If you're a GM, you have to have a franchise QB 2.) Leadership abilities 3.) Throw from the pocket 4.) Accuracy from the pocket very important - tighter windows 5.) Arm Strength - love it, can improve it a bit 6.) Stand in there - trust his reads, make the throws 7.) NFL too fast & different for sandlot football 8.) Good size - not worried about lineman in their face What rookies fit this profile: That is who we will target...
  9. They have a 2-time SB winning franchise QB, albiet an aging one with no OL...
  10. This is the same slicing and dicing that fans do to say ohe we were 6-10; we should have been 10-6 if we made this FG, this guy caught this pass etc... It's bull **** We are 24-24 with no passing offense under TT. How do you stop the Bills - make TT a QB...
  11. #2 all day long - Rosen or Darnold. Would also take Mayfield over Jackson... Chris Mortensen‏Verified account @mortreport 3m3 minutes ago Eagles have fielded - not solicited - more than one inquiry and offer for Nick Foles. Eagles' basic answer is it's going to take more than the 1st and 4th round picks they got from Vikings for Sam Bradford. Foles is Super Bowl MVP and best insurance policy in NFL.
  12. Which is what makes this a great opportunity for NYG to grab a bunch of good talent and allows us to get a QB...
  13. The Giants could take Glenn get these picks and possibly even sign Norwell (their OL has sucked for a few seasons) plus add some top draft talent...Can make an easy case for them to move back and be able to make a big change in a hurry; some older vets plus a influx of young talent...
  14. Actually if you look back, we more or less stopped going after QBs after Donahoe was gone. I will give TD that, he did make moves to attempt to address it. Once Marv replaced him we went the cheap route (not talented). EJ was the only shot after 2004 before EJ... Yeah it may be changing, but the rules still favor the QB. PHI & LAR did not have great rosters until they got a QB. PHI got in a good position for the post-season because of Wentz. the Rams only got better because of Goff. QBs elevate talent around them. A full season of Foles would not have had the same rate of success, as Wentz... 2001: Tom Brady, Patriots. 2002: Rich Gannon, Raiders. 2003: Tom Brady, Patriots. 2004: Tom Brady, Patriots. 2005: Ben Roethlisberger, Steelers. 2006: Peyton Manning, Colts. 2007: Tom Brady, Patriots. 2008: Ben Roethlisberger, Steelers. 2009: Peyton Manning, Colts. 2010: Ben Roethlisberger, Steelers. 2011: Tom Brady, Patriots. 2012: Joe Flacco, Ravens. 2013: Peyton Manning, Broncos. 2014: Tom Brady, Patriots. 2015: Peyton Manning, Broncos. 2016: Brady 2017: Brady
  15. If they want to make one more run with him, they need players quickly & don't have a ton of cap space ~$23/$24 million. Give them 2 picks in rd 1, Glenn (huge need) & whatever else isn't too bad for them really and gets them more primed for a shot before he goes and gives them some good talent after he goes. They are also at the top of RD2 (#34). That is a lot of top picks to get better in a hurry...
  16. What I hate about Roto is that they give you a quick line with zero context...Plus it is everything we already know - Barkley and BIG OL will be a great choice @2 for them. We also know that they may be willing to trade down to get a few extra picks to shore up their spotty roster. I know we have been talking about giving a bunch of picks to NYG, but I wonder if we might need to make a trade to move into the close to 10 with one 1st and a 2nd this year (or next year's first & this years 3rd - like KC & us). Give NYG pick that 10-ish plus 21 & Glenn, might be a bit more appetizing for them...
  17. I suppose you could compare the college career stats. I would assume that Falk/White will all be fairly similar to Foles, at that point I would take a shot with the rook. Might want one of our draft gurus to weigh in on this...
  18. The same one that Whaley, Nix, Russ & Marv were from... We are split as a fan base between seeing the holes all over the team and trying to fill all of the holes vs shooting for a franchise guy who can elevate the play of the rest of the team. Trying to squeak by with building a team with an average at best QB gets you Jeff Fisher & what the Bills have been this decade 7-9 to 9-7 bull$hit that requires a lucky play by Dalton to get you in the playoffs...
  19. Rotoworld Football‏Verified account @Rotoworld_FB FollowFollow @Rotoworld_FB Report: Giants leaning away from QB at No. 2 ESPN's Jordan Raanan reports "the pendulum is swinging away from" the Giants selecting a quarterback with the No. 2 overall pick. The Giants seem committed to Eli Manning, and they have the roster for a quick turnaround if they can land an impact player at the top of the draft or, better yet, trade down and grab a couple. If the Giants stay put, Raanan mentions Penn State RB Saquon Barkley and Notre Dame OG Quenton Nelson as options at No. 2. Either would fill a big need.
  20. Bortles was a hair under 300 against NEs. The book of Foles was written when he almost retired and could barely find a job. Yes I would take him over TT, but we can do better....a lot better
  21. Cheaping out does not necessarily mean $$$. Yes we paid money and picks for RJ and then traded up for Losman; other than that it has been journeymen, backups et al. with this team. Also, I wouldn't be so sure to say it has nothing to do with money. Prior to the rookie cap, first round QBs cost a lot of money; after Donahoe and cash the cap - RW/Littman was not going to spend money on a top QB.... History is littered with SB MVPs who were not great players... Not good enough and he is already 29...waste of a #2
  22. No offense, but Woof. I liked what he did in the Superbowl and it was great. Cheaping out on this position has held us back and it will continue to do so. Foles is not a franchise QB and that is what the Bills need, end of story...
