  1. I feel like the term "playmaker" is being used interchangeably between some of us this thread and on the board. Yes a "playmaker" is someone who when they get the ball is capable of making plays; which is entirely what McD was referring to. When you, PLAYMAKER, you are talking about the guy who is the elite player who is a real threat to take it to the house or tremendously impact that game every time they touch the ball (Primetime, Irvin, Rice, Julio, Megatron, Bruce, LT, etc.) We have playmakers on offense who will help make plays and move the ball, but we don't have PLAYMAKERS on offense, not one besides Allen. I'm a bit hesitant to use 2013 as an example as it was 7 years ago. I'm not even that comfortable looking at the trade for ATL in 2010 for Julio - it was a long time ago. Mayock whiffed horribly and had him rated as the #1WR and Hopkins was rated below EJ - others actually did a fairly good job. A 5'9" slot WR should simply not be a first round choice even if you plan on using him as a return man. That is a specialized talent that can be had in the latter rounds. It is a criminal use of a RD and even RD 2 pick, that can't even be categorized as a luxury pick. Michael Thomas is a great example actually of someone who was held back by the OSU offense and he was looked at as a high-ceiling prospect, but he had a high bust factor as well and that I am assuming is what caused him to drop - his floor was very low. What he does well, aside from his overall frame and athleticism is that he has good hands, #WR size, decent speed, acceleration & agility, can create separation aggressively go after the ball, generate YAC etc., can stop on a dime and get going again. Now, he was not a great Route Runner, did not consistently put up numbers in every game, was not a great run blocking WR, didn't run many vertical plays, wasn't able to work back to plays or adjust to off target throws (He was luckily pared with the most accurate QB ever - how would he have projected with a scatter shot QB?). One of his biggest knocks was not being able to beat press coverage - fact is, even as Beane has said you don't do that a lot in college, so you have to be able to project that; which for Tavon Ausin and his build would be an issue, Thomas, not at all. Beane has also said you do have to make some assumptions and try to get more information in regards to limited route trees and such and is the WR a product of the offense they are playing in. OSU was a run-first; short and intermediate throw offense so it is natural to not see many verts, same reasoning with press coverage. When you really look at what Beane says they try to ascertain in prospects, football IQ for instance (there was concern over Thomas IQ since he was red-shirted as a sophomore after playing as a freshman). The question we would have to find answers to his can he adjust to Allen's inaccuracy and be able to work back towards to ball - could we get him there? In year 1 with our team today, I'm not sure how he would be able to develop with Josh and work on those elements of his game. A better fit would likely be a WR who can work back for the ball and be able to adjust to some degree of inaccuracy by Allen - that will help Josh. When you look at how certain players are overlooked (Thomas is ideal actually), Beane actually provides insight and the answers to what causes teams to miss, in addition to what I mentioned above, Beane does call out the fire and competitiveness as well and that is what helped drive Thomas to learn and grow; let's face it, if he didn't care he would have washed out. We have talked about Cover 0 so much the season, I am burnt out on the topic - parts were misreads on our part, inability to run certain plays, dropped passes etc. It was all bad and we sucked at it. Pressure, real or perceived is certainly an issue for us and this team, we cannot create the separation or make the reads quick enough, or blow protections that kill us. When I was speaking with Cover 2, yeah we can have guys find a spot in the zone and make a catch (minus drops and OL/pressure issues), but there is nothing than forces the other team to stay out of it, we are very easy to defend.
  2. sounds like you might have some experience with this....
  3. https://dailysnark.com/random-chick-claims-she-had-affair-with-baker-mayfield-and-is-airing-his-dirty-laundry-on-twitter/
  4. All I recall is that is was the scheme that gave him more help since he was more or less not able to anchor his side. I didn't spend much more time other than that. I will look to see if I can dig it up
  5. The way the contracts are structured we wont feel the crunch like that. This being said this is the year where you can use that space to address holes before we resign our own. Next year is when the contracts are due for extension and we do not have a lot of players under contracts we are in a position to swing big this year with basically zero ramifactions.
  6. As with everything in life, there are no absolutes. I did not point that out on the no-huddle, I vividly remember reading it, but can't recall who, I almost want to say Bandit.... I am not looking for Dallas style line, where plenty of cash is tied up into it. While I don't want what have become accustomed to in the past, it can be at a good enough point that can be added to it and tweaked, just enough to keep Allen upright and give the WRs time to get free. I think Spain at times was a little weak and we can get better RT play, I think it is closer to championship caliber than some may think, if the offense is able to help the line quicker and not take forever to get open or get the ball where it should go...
  7. I'm pretty sure his point, is that even with the signings we made and the way the current slate of contracts on the books are set up, you wouldn't get in a cap crunch from doing cutting them. My feeling is that you can dump kroft and smith and sign a premium UFA TE for $10m a season and only decrease your available space by $3M, which is a no brainers if you can pull that off. Star I wouldn't create that hole unless you sign Chris Jones in and start him next to Oliver. Hmmmm. I kind of get from Beane's comments that he may not be as big on vet leadership (with the state of the team now) as McD, especially if the position can be upgraded. This is a production based business.
  8. I am fascinated with this draft and offseason. The disappointment would be Beane slow rolling all of this and wasting Josh's rookie contract and then little hole he carved out to take some swings - there is plenty of space and picks to move around
  9. Aside from RT, how much of the OL issues are a result for Josh not reading the defense quick enough vs the WRs not gaining enough separation quick enough for him to be able to deliver the ball in under 2.95 seconds(or whatever the stat was)? In simple terms, is it entirelt that the OL is bad or are their other contributing factors making it appear worse than it really is?
  10. IIRC, they were very non committal at the end of the year pressers. I had been researching Conklin a bit (just a cursory review) and what I came across was that apparently the Titans have been giving him help at RT for the past couple seasons and he really isn't that good. Haven't watched tape or anything, just read a few articles....
  11. They are not elite playmakers and that is the point some of us a driving at. The elite guys get game planned against and can take it to the house anytime they touch the ball. As of now Devin is not that guy and Beasley isn't (good player though). Beane had already said the late rounders you mentioned likely won't make they team, he did say they could use them to move up in other rounds this year or trade them for 2021 picks. I did an exercise like 3 weeks back where we could move up in rd 1 and still package picks to have 1 pick in each rd 1 through rd4. I looked at some past trade values and the value charts. FA is going to be huge and if we can fill a couple slots it will free things up for us. The biggest issue with our offense is that you can kill us with cover 0 and keep us very contained with a straight up cover 2 d, the only player that has to be accounted for is Josh's running and placing a spy on him. The other players aren't good enough to be planned against or draw coverage to open it up for the rest, no one is a threat to take it to the house either, IMO we need that more than anything...
  12. Price was a bit much with the 110%, but I also traded up from #22 in the third as well to secure a better position there. Idea was to come back to grab Mims in the 3rd, we don't really need many players in this draft, of course I had to project filling all holes in FA. I was asleep at the wheel and was gonna go for lamb, but the top 3 are too good to pass up for our needs. I have have Lamb as my 1 and Ruggs a hair ahead of Jeudy. All 3 should be damn good if they go to the correct teams with a QB. Watch some Ruggs highlights, great separation, great run blocking can stop on a dime and accelerate in an instant, makes contested catches, makes back shoulder catches and is super fast. Need an elite guy with trais like this, we have no elite talent on offense...
  13. Sorry dude, my old man had what we think is an ischemic stroke yesterday and I rushed to not hold this up! Thankfully that seemed to clear up on it's on according to the tests. Texans need an ot as well Well I agree as far as a mock goes, gotta get josh the best weapons he can get!
  14. With the 58th pick in RD the Tennessee Titans select OT Lucas Niang - He is strong in the run game and with Conklin leaving in FA, we need to replace our RT. He is a better fit right now for someone who can start as opposed to the Edge in the draft at this point, we will not be pushing talent up our board based on that need... @BuffaloHokie13 is on the clock for Seattle I'm over explaining it LMAO
  15. you are stupid; I'm sorry but you are. Higgins & Shenault are entirely different tiers. Shenault will be no better than Mackenzie this next season.... I knew Whaley and Sammy would come into play - entirely different scenarios - keep trading down for players who will take longer to develop and who will wash out quicker than elite WR talent, you sir are a moron
  16. Deep class = means talent in all the rounds; not elite talent and when you look at it - the deep talent will not help much in 2020, perhaps in 2021 & 2022. They need some time to marinate and learn Edit: We don't need more picks, we don't need more players to fill out a roster; we need more elite playmakers at skill positions on the offensive side of the ball; and most importantly, ones that can contribute quickly & there is only way place in the draft you find them
  17. I'm glad you aren't our GM. Needa guy who can be an impact right away - looks like there are only 3 of them and you will have to move up... This board needs to get comfy with the prospects of it I think he is going to get pushed up the board from his championship game performance - great player it's the sammy watkins trade and hoarding draft pick - looking for value mentality. Sammy was the last elite talent we went and got in RD1 outside of Josh and it is all about him
  18. Very fair and true point, but Beane has done enough thus far to be able to lead his own search and compile the list, no way a Rexy appears on it. I'm not trying to ball wash Beane either, he has taken some shots that haven't worked and and some that have. The churning of the roster and the aggressiveness is getting his guys in the draft have been refreshing, because he is targeting the correct positions and high ceiling players. His key to success is actually what he just said, pushing on the coaching staff to improve the roster. It sounds at times like McD wants to keep everyone, we lost too many vets in car, need to resting all of our guys, etc. Where Beane is providing the "excuses" why the coaches don't want to move on. Not saying this is a huge issue or anything, just the natural friction of both parts of the team doing their job. It's what a GM needs to do and I am so happy we don't have a do it all HC, you have to be very bellicheckian to do that and have very little emotion towards your buddies who are players. If beane is right more than he is wrong and doesn't make a colossal mistake he will be here for a long time. The question will be, how good will he be once schoen and morgan get hired away and is the depth on his team enough to fill the void.
  19. Look for his comments on Edmunds & he separates RD1 into Top tier, Mid tier and Bottom tier. Must surround Josh with talent, must score more & the offense requirements for WR reads & Routes. Route trees will be critical - very fluid. We will know more once UFA happens
  20. That price was dictated by Virgil. It will be close to our trade up for Edmunds. I'm also not opposed the the ATL trade for Julio to go up even higher. I think Lamb is the most likely, but he will be the first guy off the board. This will be a fun offseason and draft
  21. The consensus top 3 are Jeudy, Lamb and Ruggs - read the threads on this board I am not repeating everything. Stupid to take Shenault or Higgins or anyone else
