  1. I'm the reason Peterman's only decent game was the snow game. I was in the hospital for that game & didn't see a down. In Peterman's other 3 starts I was at 2 of them (LA & Balt) and watched the other game on TV. Peterman just couldn't play well if he knew I was watching.😄. Here's a funny story about the snow game-after the game I took my phone & was listening to the WGR postgame show in the post surgical recovery area at Albany Med where it's one big room with particians between beds. A nurse yelled at me that it was on too loud & to turn it down because it could be bothering the other patients.
  2. I've thought the same thing about Josh's rookie year & career. When I hear clowns in the national media who almost never see Josh play cite statistics from his rookie year & 2nd season and say he came out of nowhere last year, I go crazy. They are clueless to the fact that in his 1st 2 years Josh's stats didn't match what we were watching in games-a player who willed his team to a lot more victories than the roster was built for that season. For Josh to get 5 wins as a rookie in 11 starts with no OL or WRs was pretty amazing. After seeing Josh as a rookie, in his 2nd season I was all in & made some good money betting the Bills over win totals & to make the playoffs. The stat boys never saw it coming, but last year, when the stats finally caught up with what was going on on the field to me, and most likely you too, it was no surprise.
  3. I think it's ridiculous to hate on another QB just because you like your own QB better. As you said, you don't know him personally yet you "can't stand" him. Personally, I don't hate any opponents players because the better they are the more I respect their excellence. It's pretty obvious that the guys who do know Mahomes, his teammates, respect him as a person & a leader.
  4. On at least one of the interceptions, the scoreboard flashed "Nixon for President"
  5. I think Sam Bradford's problems were more with his own body than his O-line. The guy was a rich man's Rob Johnson. He was drafted off a year where he lost most of the college season with multiple injuries. I think Sam Darnold's problems at WR were worse than his O-line. He had 1 decent receiver & they let him (Anderson) go to Carolina as a FA. I believe that 2 things happened in Josh's rookie year: 1) Management was blindsided by the loss of both Incognito & Wood and since they were going all in for a QB, using a lot of draft capital to get up to #7 they couldn't fix the OL or get any decent WRs. It was worse than just no O-line since the WRs were the worst group in the league. 2) AJ McCarron was so bad in camp, that Nate Peterman appeared to be the better option. The Bills planned on sitting Josh for at least the 1st half of the season, but McCarron's & Peterman's failures blew up that plan. When Orton retired Marrone quit rather than be stuck with EJ. If the coach didn't want a QB bad enough to quit, that should have told Whaley something. Now it was pretty slim pickings in the 2015 draft as every QB, including the top 2 picks, busted or drastically underachieved. So you can't blame Whaley for passing on any QBs in 2015 in the draft. When Rex came in, he was the driving force behind the Tyrod signing after hearing from his Baltimore connections.
  6. If you go back through the archives, you can find posts of people who were adamant that a team has to build its OL before going for a QB. Others were totally against using a 1st round pick on a QB. Many times I would reply that you get the QB 1st & build around him and the best place to find him is in the 1st round of the draft. I was glad that when Beane came here he stated his intention to do exactly what people on my side of the arguments wanted.
  7. I would have traded Duke Williams for him...just to stop any more Duke Williams posts by some Bills fans who have always overrated the Duke.
  8. Whaley obviously had a change of clothes because he was wearing a suit at the press conference. You can criticize Whaley for a lot of things but waiting until the press conference to put his suit on goes a bit too far. Other than that, great video, thanks for posting it. On the other side, I believe if Rex Ryan had remained as coach the Bills would have drafted Watson and today we'd be going nuts because right when we finally have a Super Bowl contender the QB would be facing a big suspension or worse & we'd be relying on Mitch Trubisky to get us to the Super Bowl.
  9. Phil Simms once missed the final 10 games of the 1983 season when he messed up his hand by hitting an opponent's helmet.
  10. Not if they had stuck with Fitzpatrick another year or 5 instead of releasing him after Buddy stuck his foot in his mouth during the fake phone call. However, the 2014 QB draft wasn't much better with Carr, Garoppolo & Bridgewater as the only QBs who didn't bust. The 2015 QB draft was bad too, with Winston & Mariotta going 1-2 and a bunch of no names after them (Siemien was the best of the rest, chosen in the 7th round). The 2016 draft was a little better, but the Bills drafted C. Jones 4 picks after Dallas picked Prescott. So, in hindsight, getting rid of Fitzpatrick was a pretty dumb move. Matt Barkley will be back!
  11. QB draft choices are always iffy. In the top 10 it's about 50/50. Once you go past the top 10 the odds of finding the answer at QB drop. I did a study of QB draft choices for a 20 year period from 2000 to 2019 and found the following. In order to be considered a success a QB had to become a long term starter or have a long backup career like the two 7th rounders, both former Bills , Fitzpatrick & Cassell. The success rate results: Top 10 53% Rest of 1st round: 36% 2nd round: 24% 3rd round: 17% 4th round: 10% 5th round 0% (over 30 busts) 6th round: 10% 7th round 5%
  12. The Pegulas figured that out & after a disaster of an end of season press conference after the 2016 season put a gag order on him & wouldn't let him speak to the media until after they fired him. Remember, on the day of the 2017 draft McDermott spoke to the media & Whaley never said a word.
  13. This reminds me of a story from years ago. One time I was down in Nassau County visiting my parents & my father confused the 2 actors from Car 54 & was sure Fred Gwynne was dead when he was still alive. Back then Gwynne used to be the voice on commercials & whenever I was at their house & a commercial with his voice came on I'd say "still alive". I used to go down to visit about 4 times a year & on one visit on the drive down I heard on the news that Fred Gwynne had died that day. When I got to their house I told my father that he could now say Fred Gwynne is dead. So when Buddy Nix dies, come back & bump this thread & tell everyone that everyone can now agree with you that Buddy is dead. On a side note, when my father died we were going through his stuff & he had written out lists of dead people. On the list (this was in 2008) was Lou Holtz. When I found it I joked with my sister that my father was up there looking for Lou Holtz & he wasn't going to find him. 13 years later Lou Holtz is still alive. Buddy is going to live to be 100 just to spite you.
  14. A few years ago when we went into opposing stadiums the fans were very welcoming because they knew their team was going to kick our butts. I remember being in Baltimore opening day and the Ravens fans were very nice to me, complimenting me on traveling to follow my team. It was pretty easy for them to be kind when the Ravens were on their way to a 47-3 whooping of the Bills.
  15. Had the USFL never existed, maybe Kelly pulls a Tom Cousineau and refuses to report to the Bills at all, forcing a trade. Graham's thought that Kelly might have forced a trade is wrong. Kelly was in the Bills office about to sign a rookie contract. How did Graham forget one of the best known stories in Buffalo sports history?
  16. If he gets a team, the team will go undefeated-no matter how many games they lose.
  17. https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/top-100-nfl-players-of-2021-patrick-mahomes-holds-on-to-no-1-spot-josh-allen-rockets-into-top-10/?ftag=SPM-16-10abi8e Highlights: Josh Allen 10 Stefon Diggs 12 Tre White 78 Class of 2018 QBs Josh Allen 10 Lamar Jackson 28 Baker Mayfield Just missed top 100 Sam Darnold No mention Josh Rosen Obviously no mention
  18. You're allowed to covet anything not owned by another, so as long as the player hasn't been drafted, it's ok. Now I remember a year after the Bills drafted Josh Allen with the 7th pick of the 2018 draft the Jaguars with the 7th pick drafted Josh Allen in the 2019 draft. The people in Jacksonville who were responsible for coveting and drafting Josh Allen were severely punished for coveting a player already under contract to another and within 2 years they were the worst team in the NFL & they all got fired.
  19. The only reason to hide draft board ratings is so that some other team doesn't trade up & jump your team to get a guy that both you & the other team covet. After the draft that's irrelevant. I think all the teams should reveal their draft ratings after the draft so over a period of years the fans can see if the scouts are good or suck. 😜
  20. I don't know why anyone cares about the Jaguars draft board AFTER the draft. They're berating the Jags, who didn't reveal anything that could help another team, while this Bills board was released to the media PRIOR to the draft and even showed the proposed deal with Denver that has since been confirmed as real. Just think if another team had enough draft capital and seeing this had moved into pick 4 to jump ahead of us for the right Josh. We would have ended up with either Rosen or Rudolph and unless we were bad enough to get Herbert in 2020, we'd still be floundering without a QB.
  21. JP is coaching at Clemson and EJ is a college football analyst for the ACC Network which is owned by ESPN. Getting back to the TSL, I saw part of the game & highlights from the game in Indy & it's amazing that they play in totally empty stadiums even after Covid restrictions have been eased.
  22. I always stayed to the end of games (unless I had to leave to catch a flight) and at that game I was actually glad Roscoe fumbled so I could start my 4.5 to 5 hour drive home. I was dreading the thought of overtime at the game I consider the worst NFL game I've ever been at out of the 272 games I've attended. I have another nominee. There were multiple sins by the players and coaches Houston at Bills 11/16/03 Bills were trailing 12-8 at the 2 minute warning, but had advanced to the Texans 31 yard line. After the 2 minute warning time out, Drew Bledsoe fumbles & Houston recovers. Bad enough, but it gets worse! With Houston now in possession & trying to run out the clock, they get called for a penalty. Now as soon as the penalty is called, London Fletcher is franically waving his arms to decline the penalty. See, London realized that if the penalty was accepted then Houston, with an additional down, would be able to run out the clock. However, either Gregg or one of his assistants on the sideline told the refs the Bills would accept the penalty. With the extra down Houston could now hold on to the ball & never give it back to the Bills. On the final play Andre Johnson took the ball and ran into the endzone as the clock hit 0:00 for a safety. The Bills accepting the penalty ended any chance at a comeback & the final score was Texans 12 Bills 10. As we were leaving the stadium, I turned to my friend Petrino & said "Ralph should have fired Gregg as soon as that penalty was accepted" Unlike the Jets who fired Gregg for losing the Raiders game last season, Ralph let Gregg continue to coach until the season ended.
  23. Mine is actually a series of plays. Jim Kelly threw a pass out of the endzone into the stands & was called for intentional grounding. I have never seen any other QB called for grounding throwing the ball out of the endzone before or after that game. Later on Kelly threw a pick 6 & the Dolphins won the game https://www.baltimoresun.com/news/bs-xpm-1996-10-14-1996288081-story.html But Kelly went back to pass, looked right, found no one open and then noticed Miami defensive lineman Tim Bowen bearing down on him. A veteran quarterback overthrows his covered tight ends on the right side, but inexplicably Kelly opted to throw to no one on the left side. The referee penalized the Bills for intentional grounding: 10 yards and a loss of down. Kelly, who is playing in the final year of his contract and looking for Marino-like money (a $3 million raise), threw the ball away in the correct manner on second down. He tripped while trying to hand off to Thomas on third down, resulting in only a 2-yard gain. And on fourth-and-goal from the 10, he threw the ball to Terrell Buckley. Unfortunately, Buckley plays for the Dolphins. A week ago Johnson fired safety Gene Atkins for not making plays in the secondary, but Buckley took the interception and returned it 91 yards for a touchdown to give Johnson his biggest victory with the Dolphins.
