I was watching a football show Monday and an ex-player said that the other players can tell almost immediately in early practices whether a rookie has what it takes to play in the NFL. The host brought up Josh Allen because some in the media were questioning him his 1st 2 years & the player mentioned how the Bills veterans were raving about Josh as soon as he arrived. I remember not knowing much about Josh & after reading some of the comments in mini-camp, especially from Shady and other veterans, I was sold on Josh from his 1st camp in Buffalo based on his peer reviews. The old saying that a mistake drafting a QB sets a team back 5 years is no longer true. While high QBs picked don't get jettisoned as rookies, teams are cutting ties a lot faster these days. I think recent actions by teams that draft QBs in the 1st or 2nd round to some extent back up what the player said, although the teams give these guys at least a year or 2. In recent years we've seen teams move on from QBs pretty quickly. In what will be seen as one of the smartest moves in draft history, the Cardinals recognized how bad Josh Rosen was after 1 season and did not hesitate to not only draft his replacement, but trade him for whatever they could get before his trade value fell to zero, as the Dolphins found out a year later. Dwayne Haskins didn't even last 2 years in Washington after being the 15th pick of the 2019 draft. Some of it was his attitude, but Ron Rivera had his fill of him in less than 1 year of coaching the guy. He's currently on Pittsburgh as a project and based on other QBs history I don't expect him to be Rothlisberger's replacement. . Paxton Lynch lasted only 2 seasons in Denver after being a 1st round (#26) pick. He was cut when Denver chose Chad Kelly as their backup before the 2018 season. After Lynch, the next QB taken In 2016 was the Jets choice of Christian Hackenberg in the 2nd round (pick 51). He was with the team his 1st 2 season and they never let him on the field for even 1 down those 2 years. He was then traded to the Raiders & cut by them 3 weeks later. Johnny Manziel lasted 2 years with Cleveland after being a 1st rounder. He didn't even make it to camp in year 3, having been cut during the offseason aftre 2 years with the Browns. When the Bills signed Brian Brohm years ago it was after Brohm, a 2nd round pick, had been waived before the season by GB and nobody put in a waiver claim & he ended up on GB's practice squad. It only took GB 1 year to realize Brohm was a bust. The reality is it may not be evident those 1st few days, but it doesn't take long for a team to know a hit from a bust. Even though I've focused on QBs it also applies to other positions. I remember hearing an ex-Bill saying how that almost from day 1 of camp the team knew that 5th rounder Kyle Williams was a much better player than 1st rounder John McCargo.

Zach Wilson knee injury [sprained PCL, miss 2-4 weeks]
Albany,n.y. replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall
This might be the best thing for Wilson to sit out a few weeks & let some things slow down for him while watching from the sidelines. Josh got hurt & missed 4 games his rookie year & he learned while out. Troy Aikman missed part of his rookie year with an injury while on a bad team & had a HOF career. -
Tailgating at MetLife Stadium - Where da Bills fans be?
Albany,n.y. replied to ProcessTruster's topic in The Stadium Wall
The Long Island RR doesn't go to NJ. I know there are trains from Manhattan on NJ transit but I don't know how to get to them. If you're interested in tailgaiting check with the NYC Bills backers. I'm going on a bus trip from Albany with a Jets fan & won't be tailgaiting. Remember-Met-Life is a cashless stadium: Cash-Free Transactions To reduce touchpoints and create a faster payment experience, MetLife Stadium is operating cash-free. Cash will not be accepted at concession stands or retail locations. Pay with a debit or credit card using contactless tap to pay, mobile wallet, chip or swipe. The Jets prefer Visa as a form of payment. Reverse ATM machines will be available throughout MetLife Stadium for guests to convert cash to a prepaid Visa debit card. The Visa debit card has no expiration date and can be used anywhere a Visa debit card is accepted. Reverse ATMs are located in MetLife West Hall and adjacent to sections: 117, 128, 149 (100 Level) 220a, 245a (200 Level) 304, 322, 334, 347 (300 Level) -
The only way Barkley is getting traded is if Gettleman gets fired 1st. He's not even playing this week. This time it's his ankle. Gettleman isn't taking a 3rd for a guy who he put his job on the line to draft when he could have taken any of the many hits at the top end of the 2018 draft. Now once Gettleman is gone the new GM may cut his losses, but who wants to pay Barkley $7.27 million guaranteed next year if he doesn't start producing this year & if he does then the Giants will keep him & pay him his 5th year option themselves.

I'm watching the Jets @ NE with a lot of interest tomorrow. I bet NE to cover a 7 point spread at -110 & then I took a small teaser on NE -19 at +380. Obviously I think it's going to be a blowout & history says when Belichick is blowing out a divisional opponent he doesn't ease up on the scoring. The Patriots won the 1st game at Met-Life by 19 so I'm looking for at least one more point with the game in NE. I would like to watch the Giants too, to see how Darnold's return to NJ turns out, but it's on the same time and I don't have any $ riding on that game. It's a pretty weird situation in Carolina-they already guaranteed Darnold $18,858,000 for 2022 & if he bombs they may have to eat it. If they pay him & release him he could end up as our backup-Josh's buddy & a former Carolina Panther. That's 2 things in his favor.

Speaking of dumb ways to lose a football game...

I remember Drew Bledsoe intentionally throwing it away out of bounds on 4th down when he was with the Bills. -
Beane's Draft Picks: Is Allen His Only Success?
Albany,n.y. replied to Gugny's topic in The Stadium Wall
There's no such thing as a perfect drafting GM. HOFer Bill Polian, who was GM from 1986-1992 had the following high draft choices during his time as Bills GM: 1st round: Ronnie Harmon 2nd round: Roland Mitchell, James Patton 3rd round: Leonard Burton, David Brandon, Bernard Ford, Darryl Wren -
It's one play in a game the Ravens won by 34-6 & controlled the entire 60 minutes. You are so clueless there's no point in responding to any of your stupid posts after this response.
-
Then you are clueless. The gameplan was to run against the Chargers weak run defense, Baltimore ran for 187 yards including 51 by Lamar Jackson. He had no need to throw for big yardage. He hit 70% of his passes. They scored 34 points. Go take your lame use of stats to try to prove a ridiculous point because you don't like Jackson for whatever lame reason you have and learn how to watch football because it's pretty obvious you have no clue what you're watching.

This post is what happens when someone looks at stats instead of watching the game. Stats are for losers! Anyone who watched the games Lamar Jackson played in knows that the above post is ridiculously stupid.

Does anybody want to tell me again how good Flores is?
Albany,n.y. replied to eball's topic in The Stadium Wall
Taking the wrong QB in the 1st round is extremely costly. It usually means the coach loses his job. The team that makes the right choice usually goes on to be a Super Bowl contender while the team making the wrong choice ends up in contention for a top 10 draft choice. There are a lot of examples where a team picked a QB in the 1st round & the team that picked the next available QB got the franchise QB while the 1st team drafted a mediocrity or a bust. The two you mentioned are prime examples. The LAC are way ahead of Miami & the Bills are on a different planet than the grounded Jets. Add Chicago to the scrap heap (the team owned by Aaron Rodgers) who picked our own Mitch Trubisky & the next QB taken in that draft was KC's Mahomes. -

Albany,n.y. replied to eball's topic in The Stadium Wall
McDermott's 2nd season was all about developing Josh Allen. The record was irrelevant. Flores isn't developing anyone & the owner wants Watson, not Tua if Watson remains a free man in 2022. If Miami wins 4 or fewer games he & the GM will be out on the street. -
It's not on ABC nationally.

Is Baker dropping to #4 of the Class of '18?
Albany,n.y. replied to Huh? What?'s topic in The Stadium Wall
That was after he padded his stats on the game tying drive. Going into that drive his completion % was in the 30s. That's Gary Marangi territory. Baker is nowhere near that. Right now Josh & Lamar are pretty close as the top guys with Baker way behind & Darnold in a different time zone. When I was watching Carolina on the bonus coverage on Fox after the Giants game ended all I could think of is with every down Carolina is regretting giving Darnold that 5th year option which is guaranteed & will hurt their cap next year. Basically they're stuck with a bad QB. The only good thing about Darnold is he's not Josh Rosen level of bad. -
I think the kid's problem is a massive inferiority complex. His father is a former MLB player. His brother is one of the NFLs top players & he's JAG. I wouldn't be surprised if Patrick has constantly put him down & he is acting out. One of my college roomates ended up being a big TV executive. He would always put down his brother calling him No Personality among other put downs. I lost track of him before he became semi-famous so I don't know how his brother handled his success, but I wouldn't be surprised if there was a lot of animosity between them.

The best line I heard this morning on the radio regarding the Jaguars game: They only time I've heard the name Josh Allen this morning is in a preview of the Bills/Titans game tomorrow night.

Whoever made the decision to draft Tua over Herbert shouldn't have a job in the NFL.

Rank The Buffalo Bills Starting QB’s Since Jim Kelly
Albany,n.y. replied to JohnNord's topic in The Stadium Wall
I got a lot of heat from the Brohm supporters when I tried to explain that there was no way that our management at the time was capable of outsmarting the best GMs in the league by signing a guy off GB's practice squad who they didn't even bat an eye for when he was waived before his 2nd season. My theory was that QBs are treated like gold by the NFL GMs. Teams don't release a 2nd round QB one year later and no waiver claims come in unless the film (mostly pre-season) indicates he's a bust. I said at the time how can anyone believe Russell Brandon could steal a guy with GMs like Ozzie Newsome & Bill Polian not having made a waiver claim earlier in the year. The funniest replies gave Buddy Nix the credit as if he could ever outsmart all the GMs. The closest thing to Brohm since then is Josh Rosen who up until he failed with 3 or 4 teams, his die hards still were waiting for him to emerge. The bottom line is the actions of the GMs in the league can give you a pretty good idea if a highly drafted QB is a bust when his 1st team dumps him. The ones with any potential left don't land on practice squads. The only exceptions are late round QBs or free agent QBs who can sometimes be far enough under the radar that a team can sneak him through waivers. But a 1st, 2nd or even a 3rd round QB who gets dumped within 2 years with virtually no interest around the league isn't going to be anyone's answer. I'm so glad we are light years away from fans getting excited with a QB signing off another team's practice squad. -
I saw -7.5 earlier today, but either way it's a bad beat. That's why I stay away from spreads like this. The only Bills game I've lost in 6 games since legalized betting started in 2019 was a six or 6.5 spread vs the Bengals in 2019 when the Bills squandered a big lead and won by 4. Just like the Tampa bettors tonight all I needed was a field goal for the money.
