  1. I don't have a favorite either, but I saw a very funny guy on HBO Saturday, Jim Jeffries.
  2. It's people like this guy who push me towards support of an issue I could personally care less about. http://www.timesunion.com/AspStories/story...sdate=5/18/2009 Here's an excerpt & then how easily one could change his words to ban marriage of anyone my age to a woman my age: Adulterate is the operative word here. Civil union for protection of civil liberties and earned benefits is not sufficient for the homosexual movement. The militant homosexual agenda calls for the debasement (adulteration) of marriage by insisting on a finding of equality with marriage between a man and woman. Homosexual unions cannot by definition produce children and hence are not entitled to the same elevation and protections offered to society's basic building block. Rights are endowed by the Creator, not by government. Marriage is an institution recognized as a contract and is neither a right nor an entitlement. Now I've changed his gay assertions to how his thoughts could be used to stop me from getting married: Civil union for protection of civil liberties and earned benefits is not sufficient for the over 50 movement. The militant over 50 heterosexual agenda calls for the debasement (adulteration) of marriage by insisting on a finding of equality with marriage between a couple in their 50s and a couple in their 20s. Over 50 heterosexual unions cannot by definition produce children and hence are not entitled to the same elevation and protections offered to society's basic building block. Also, by his logic any childless couple of any age is debasing marriage. People like the author of this letter remind me to support causes that don't affect me, because they can start with a group that you're not a part of and eventually get to you. This poem sums it up nicely: First They Came - Pastor Martin Niemoller First they came for the Communists And I did not speak out Because I was not a Communist First they came for the Socialist And I did not speak out Because I was not a Socialist First they came for the trade unionists And I did not speak out Because I was not a trade unionist First they came for the Jews And I did not speak out Because I was not a Jew Then they came for me And there was no one left To speak out for me
  3. He has always stated the team is going to his daughters. His wife won't inherit the team if he still owns it, Christy Wilson Hofmann will.
  4. The best Steelers fan ever had to be the guy who had a Steelers funeral a few years ago. He was such a fan they put him in his chair in front of a TV with all the Steelers stuff as if he was sitting at home watching games as he did when he was alive.
  5. Donna Barton Brothers is the daughter of Patty Barton. Patty Barton was one of the pioneers of female jockeys. When there were very few female jockeys Patty Barton was among that group. She rode at Commodore Downs in Erie Pa in the 1970s. When I was living in Fredonia I would go to Erie for the races. Donna must have spent some time in Erie as a kid.
  6. I like Friesan Fire & Dunkirk FYI I Want Revenge will not run in the race-he's scratched.
  7. Noooooooooooooooooooo He made more mental mistakes than Robert Royal when he was a Bill.
  8. The offer is now off the table-they never ran it past the owner. Heard that on the 11:00 news.
  9. There are two really stupid things that take place before and after the draft. The 1st dumb thing are the mock drafts-especially the 7 round variety-all are way off & hit a very low percentage. The 2nd dumb thing is the post draft grade a team is given. Usually the grade is based on the guy's slotting of players. If you took a bunch of guys a round or 2 before he had them, you get an A. If you took players earlier than he slotted them, you get an F. God forbid you take a guy in the 1st or 2nd round that the guy had as a mid-late rounder-he goes ballistic. Remember when the Bills drafted John Fina? Kiper had him as a late rounder and the top of his head went flying off when before the pick Berman, who was told the pick & Kiper knew that said "hmmm, how about John Fina?" Now some people around here may not have liked Fina, but he proved worthy of being a 1st round pick-we even franchised him once.
  10. Nobody wants Ko Simpson-Bills included.
  11. How many of them are still with the Bills? The ones that are still in Buffalo: Are they starters because we have no one better, or would they start elsewhere? Nine years of no playoffs means someone, or the entire inner circle, isn't doing a very good job of talent evaluation.
  12. Why doesn't everyone who wants Pettigrew realize that he's not going to be picked by the Bills. OL & DL are more important than TE. Best shot for a TE is a trade for Scheffler, not the pipe dream of drafting Pettigrew.
  13. Nobody really hates Losman. It's pretty obvious you still haven't figured the guy out if you really believe "if he can get under a coach who can get inside his head, he could still revive his career." The guy has no feel for the NFL game-if Lombardi rose from the grave, all he would end up saying is "what the hell is going on here" when watching Losman. What you interpret as hatred is really our frustration with people who still believe he can play NFL ball. He can't, face the facts already. He'll be lucky to be a 3rd stringer next year and odds favor that if he makes it to a camp, he won't make it through the season with that team. See: Johnson, Rob for any further look into JP's future because they ended up being, more or less, the same guy.
  14. No problem with a QB in the 6th or 7th. It's the thought of taking a QB in the 1st round that should get anyone in the inner circle shot.
  15. We don't have the luxury of taking a QB with craters at LT, LG, TE and holes at DL & LB. If Brandon & the inner circle even think of taking a QB, Ralph shouldn't fire them, he should shoot them. Now the 11th pick can be a QB if some team wants to give us some picks &/or players. If the price of trading up for JP was a 1,2, & 5, if anyone wants a shot at an available QB, the bidding starts there, and the 1 better be higher than the late 20s.
  16. Booker Moore had it and missed his rookie year. We'll never really know whether it was the GBS or he just was a bust. Andy Griffith had it too.
  17. People who brag about big refunds just don't get what that means-it means they're not taking home enough on payday & need to adjust their witholdings. Even better are the ones who think that what they pay on their return is what their tax bill is. My sister & I both had to pay big this year because we inherited an IRA distribution (we both chose not to do the stuff necessary to defer the taxes for a variety of good reasons that are irrelevant in this post) and when she asked me how much I was paying on my tax return I had to explain that my payment was a result of how much I earned, how much was withheld and how much I still owed and that we couldn't compare what we paid unless we looked at the what we both made & the totals including payments & withholdings.

  19. Anything other than an NFL Network game & I'm guaranteed of seeing Bills-Jets on home TV in high def. Now I can't watch the game at home unless I want to see a blurry computer feed. Thanks NFL! I'll be at a bar with a bunch of drunk Jets' fans, what a wonderful thought. PS: I don't want to hear any of that get Direct TV s##t, I go to the home games & NFL ticket ain't worth it for at most 7 friggin games since we get the Monday night game & the @Jets game will be on, as well as one or two others.
  20. That's like saying XXXXX will be dead by Friday. One of these Fridays XXXXX will be dead. It may be 50 years from now, but eventually you'll be right.
  21. I doubt we'll see a triple crown winner because the two top horses (IMO) are lightly raced and very close in talent that I can't see one of them winning all 3. My top 2 are the 1-2 finishers of the Florida Derby-Quality Road and Dunkirk. I think Quality Road is the better of the two because he's got more tactical speed and can get the jump on Dunkirk, just like Sunday Silence used to do to Easy Goer and Affirmed used to do to Alydar. One unknown is if Dunkirk can get into the Derby due to graded stakes earnings rules. I think he'll make it, but if he doesn't & Quality Road wins the Kentucky Derby without Dunkirk in there, he'll have to face a rested Dunkirk when the two meet again in the Preakness or Belmont-another factor to deny the triple crown. Now after yesterday, a lot of folks are all ga-ga over the Gotham & Wood winner I Want Revenge-I'm just not that into I Want Revenge. I think he's peaked too soon & I'm still not impressed by any of the horses he has beaten. Remember, in California he was just a second rate horse to Santa Anita Derby winner Pioneerof the Nile (POTN). Also his trainer Jeff Mullins, has done this sort of stuff before, had a horse who won the last major Derby prep. From 2003-5 Mullins trained the winners of the Santa Anita Derby with horses who did nothing in Kentucky. Just because he shipped this act to NY this year, doesn't make I Want Revenge a horse who will be a threat to my top 2. POTN has good credentials over stynthetic surfaces, but is untested on dirt & his speed #s in California are similar to last year's California darling-Colonel John-who didn't hit the board in Kentucky last year. I don't see much coming out of next week's races, though Old Fashioned can get back some of his lost luster with a convincing win in the Arkansas Derby & a wide open Blue Grass can produce a contender, although the best possible result of the Blue Grass would be the English horse who has automatically qualified for a spot in the Derby to run so poorly that his owners are too embarrassed to run him in the Derby & block a much better candidate like Dunkirk. The best horse in the Bluegrass is probably Charitable Man, who hasn't been out since a 7 furlong sprint last September at Belmont. He's never been further than 7f, never raced on polytrack, but has a ton of talent, already beating Louisiana's horse Friesan Fire. It would be asking a lot to send him to the Derby, but a likely win in the Bluegrass might give his connections Derby Fever. Speaking of Friesan Fire, he is going to try to win the Derby with no mile & one eight prep & off a 7 week layoff-I doubt he'll get it done. I expect Theregoesjojo to run well in either the Bluegrass or the Lexington and have enough $ to get into the gate in Louisville, but all his better performance will do is validate my top two horses. Quality Road & Dunkirk will prove to be the cream of this 3 year old crop.
  22. The perfect record of Soprano remains intact: Soprano & the 2008 Detroit Lions, achieving (reverse) perfection one game (or post) at a time.
  23. Spoiler Alert-only go down to the bottom if you don't have it taped, dvr'd etc. I hated the ending. All the characters are astronauts in the future (2035 I think) and they were in these pods where they each chose a different virtual reality while the flight was on its way to land on Mars. Sam chose to be a cop. It turns out his real father, who is also an astronaut is Harvey Keitel. Annie is the leader on the spaceship & the guy from the last season of Homicide is their leader on Earth. Obama's daughter is now President. They land on Mars & go out to its surface.
