  1. Skorpan would give Ellison a run for his money.
  2. We are because with our schedule, we will end up with the worst record. Here are the problem areas: QB: We have 1 decent career backup(Fitzpatrick) and 2 bums-bum #1 starts and bum #3 was lucky that Levi Brown was so bad that he was able to easily beat him out. OT: People can dream all they want but Bell is a long way from a decent LT & Green is worse than a guy we could pick up from the UFL. Backups are GB reject Meredith, who is the best of the guys on the bench; Wang, a rookie with a cast on his hand who hasn't played yet, and pick a guard to move if anyone else goes down. TE: Stupar, a guy we cut last year & Martin a guy the Dolphins cut. We're waiting for S.Nelson to save the day. DL: Starters 2 of 3 guys who are learning a new position and a couple of rookies. LB: With the Poz injury-1 guy plaing the position for the 1st time, 2 guys cut from other teams & now Ellison starting. Maybin-don't get me started! This group reminds me of the bad LBs of the mid 1980s. I remember the Bills picking up George Cumby off waivers and immediately penciling him into the starting lineup. This team is the worst Bills team, talent-wise, since 1984. I predicted 3-13 before the season started & I now think that's too high since one of the 3 wins I had was opening day. It's sad, but it's true. A lot of fans got delusional in the off season thinking that the coaching change would erase the lack of talent. By the time this season is over, some may view last year's staff as miracle workers getting 6 wins (5 + Indy giving us one) out of that team. I'm in it for the long haul, so if we're as bad as I think we are, I'll just laugh at the comedy and hope for better days in the future. In 1984 we were horrible, the 1985 draft brought Bruce Smith, Andre Reed, Frank Reich, all three were on 4 Super Bowl teams. Bad teams do get better after they bottom out. The reason we've been so bad is that we keep missing impact players by 3-5 picks then reach and get backups or busts instead of starters in the 1st round.
  3. That never stopped them from coming during the Kelly years. We had Paup, Spielman, Early and others come here to play with a Super Bowl contender. Just like Miami in the NBA, NFL players want to play with guys who can team with them to get a championship. 4 of the 7 states with no income tax don't have NFL teams. The lower cost of living when buying homes & doing other things in WNY offsets their taxes enough that it's not a factor. So save that stuff for the political board, it has little to do with why players aren't coming here. When I sat in the stands on opening day the 1st thing I noticed was that our #1 picks from 2007, 2008 & 2009 all started the game on the bench.
  4. He didn't even try for the Conservative party line in the primary. Now there are rumors he's trying to get Lazio to drop out & give him the line, even though Lazio won the primary. Since Paladino has no chance in the general election, it's as good a year as any to get him out of the Republicans' system. Maybe next time the Republican party, which didn't run a viable candidate against Spitzer 4 years ago, will finally wake up, remember how they were able to get Pataki elected for 12 years, and give the voters a real choice for Governor 4 years from now. I'm getting tired of State & local elections where one party conceeds the election to the other. When the Republican leadership originally picked Lazio they were giving up the election. Paladino will certainly run a much more vigorous campaign than Lazio would have, but his statements will make him unelectable. For example, he ran a commercial where he promised state cuts & then he promised to create jobs. Now that may play in other parts of the state, but anyone who knows the Albany area would have had enough sense to know that cutting the state workforce will do nothing but have a ripple effect on employment in this area that will only lead to job loss, not job creation. At least in Albany, state cuts mean more unemployment, not less.
  5. I was talking about fans rooting for the team to win. I was not talking about the players on the field. They would be crazy to play to lose so that the team has as chance to draft a player better than them to replace each with. As a fan, I do not want my team winning meaningless games in December if it costs them the #1 pick in a year when an impact player is available. I would never expect the players to want to lose. On a bad team, they're fighting for their professional lives.
  6. That's why I have a problem with people who want to win meaningless games in December. Months ago I started a thread that stated that if the Bills are in contention for the top spot in December, I'm rooting for them to lose. I got it from the "You play to win the game" people. Some were just in denial as to how bad we were going to be this year & were just reacting to anything that suggested the Bills would be bad enough to be in contention for the #1 pick by December. My response when people don't want to lose a meaningless game is Herm Edwards was wrong saying "You play to win the game." The correct phrase is "You play to win the Super Bowl". If we have to suffer through a horrible 2-14 or worse year this year, but we get the franchise QB and win the Super Bowl within the next 4, it's a lot better than going 5-11, missing out on any of the QBs, and 5 years from now we're still considering 8-8 an accomplishment. Even though we didn't win the Super Bowl, does anyone think we make 4 in a row if in 1984 we finished 5-11 and still went for a DE & drafted Ron Holmes, who had a fair career but was nowhere in Bruce Smith's league? Now I know he wasn't a QB, but we got lucky and got Kelly in the top-middle of the 1st and had his rights before Bruce was drafted.
  7. Trent Edwards isn't getting cut-but he could be benched pretty soon for the capable veteran, the guy who was at the helm for the majority of snaps in 5 of last year's 6 victories-Ryan Fitzpatrick. You may not think he looks pretty out there, but the best QB available to do exactly what you want is Fitzpatrick. There's nobody on the street or available through trade who is any better than Fitz. So if the goal is to win games, Fitzpatrick is the one.
  8. Paladino can keep all his $, some that he's going to blow running for Governor and build a new stadium downtown. That's the only way Paladino can help the Bills.
  9. Ralph holds a press conference with Satan. He announces that in exchange for selling his soul to the devil, Satan has made it impossible for the Bills to lose any more games this year. The lineups are being introduced, Ralph & Satan are in the visiting owner's box. Ralph is smiling as he plans on a glorious victory. Suddenly, Satan tells Ralph "The deal is off, what do you think I am, a miracle worker, that's God's work, I can't get this team to beat Green Bay."
  10. The draft is in April. The lockout wouldn't happen until July. The draft will go on as usual. The NFL is not hockey. Anyone who thinks the NFL would go a whole season without playing doesn't understand the reason why the NHL could afford to miss a season (too many teams were losing money)vs the profitable NFL.
  11. While what you say is all true, it's a lot easier for Flacco to look downfield when he has Boldin, Mason, Houshmandzadeh and a real TE like Heap running downfield. Now there was a lot of offensive futility at last night's game, but Flacco & the Ravens will put up a lot of points in most games. The offensive weapons Baltimore has are impressive. The Bills @ Ravens game is going to be something like 31-0 at some point before Baltimore just runs out the clock. I don't even want to think what the Jets' D will do to our O, because holding the Ravens to 10 points is beyond impressive.
  12. Trent will never be champion of bad QBing by year's end because if he continues his bad play he will be benched by the week after the bye. Then Fitzpatrick will get his chance. If he can't win, we'll end the season with Brohm-who will show all his fans why the only QB he was better than is Levi Brown, a guy who can't even get a spot on a practice squad.
  13. How can I be embarrassed? I've seen worse than this. I sat through games coached by Jim Ringo, Kay Stephenson, Hank Bullough, Gregg Williams etc coaching teams a lot worse than this. I've seen bad quarterbacking by guys named Marangi, Ferragamo, Mathison, Johnson, Losman & Edwards. Lou Saban/Jack Kemp, Chuck Knox/Joe Ferguson & Marv Levy/Jim Kelly were the abberations, what we're seeing now is the norm. A coach is only as good as his QB. The only QB on the roster who will be on an NFL roster in 3 years is Fitzpatrick, and all he is, is a decent #2.
  14. Green Bay is going to be the darlings of every suicide pool player this week. I'd put GB in now in the one I'm in, but I picked San Diego & I have to wait on tonight's game before I put this upcoming week's pick in.
  15. Except for this season where there is no cap, there has been a rookie salary cap for years. It's based on the number of draft choices & where you pick. Anyone who thinks there will be a radical change in rookie salaries for 2011 is wrong. The draft is in April. The anticipated negotiations aren't expected until camps open in July. If you think there will be a new rookie cap, much more restrictive than the old one, please explain why, when there will be no new contract with the union at the time of the draft, there will be one in 2011. More likely, 2011 will be the last year of high rookie salaries. It's 2012 when rookie salaries may be lower, not 2011.
  16. They don't. They just didn't think any QB in this year's draft could. They're not going to give up a potential top 10 pick. Now if the Bills start off 5-1, then they could think of making a trade, but the last 5-1 start ended up 7-9.
  17. The loser is in for a long stretch before they get a victory. Miami may not win a game until November or December if they lose & the Bills might in a very similar situation.
  18. My income is the same when I go to a game in NJ or NE as it is when I go to Buffalo. I just end paying more.
  19. If you go this year to the Izod Center for a Nets game, you literally will be the only one there. The rest of the people will be in Newark. I went to a Nets game last year & there was virtually no traffic getting out of the sports complex. I don't plan on going to Newark, maybe Brooklyn one of these years.
  20. Not a popular pick: I have us 3-13 with wins opening day vs Miami then wins vs Detroit & Cleveland. Here's my entire NFL: AFC East New England 9 7 NY Jets 8 8 Miami 6 10 Buffalo 3 13 AFC North Baltimore 12 4 Cincinnati 9 7 WC Cleveland 8 8 Pittsburgh 8 8 AFC South Houston 13 3 Indianapolis 11 5 WC Tennessee 8 8 Jacksonville 5 11 AFC West San Diego 13 3 Kansas City 7 9 Oakland 7 9 Denver 3 13 NFC East Dallas 10 6 Philadelphia 9 7 WC NY Giants 7 9 Washington 6 10 NFC North Green Bay 11 5 Minnesota 9 7 Chicago 7 9 Detroit 4 12 NFC South New Orleans 11 5 Atlanta 10 6 WC Tampa Bay 8 8 Carolina 7 9 NFC West St. Louis 8 8 San Francisco 7 9 Arizona 6 10 Seattle 6 10 Playoffs AFC Baltimore over Cincinnati New England over Indianapolis Houston over New England San Diego over Baltimore San Diego over Houston NFC Philadelphia over St. Louis Dallas over Atlanta Green Bay over Philadelphia New Orleans over Dallas Green Bay over New Orleans Super Bowl San Diego over Green Bay
