  1. Ok, I have no class. On 10/10/1993 I was watching Miami vs Cleveland at home alone on TV because the Bills had a Monday night game and there was no conflict. At the time the Bills & Dolphins had the same record & were in what looked like a season long battle for AFC supremacy. Then Dan Marino went down with a torn achilles and I stood up and cheered & started singing the "Buffalo's Going To The Super Bowl" song. Then I called up a couple of Bills fans & we celebrated. Back in those days, fans my age vividly remember the Dolphins beating the Bills throughout the 70s and the big celebration on opening day 1980 when we beat Miami at "Rich" Stadium. To this day, it's the only time I've been on the field, as I joined many other fans celebrating at the end of the game. The Dolphins were hated by just about every Bills fan and I, like many other fans, felt if it was bad for the Dolphins it was good for the Bills.
  2. Thanks for giving me more evidence how useless QB stats can be. Bottom line: 5-11 often times looking totally lost with the game on the line. As I often say to the stat boys. If stats told the story instead of coaches & players spending hours watching film, they'd just hand out a piece of paper at team meetings, go over the stats & never watch a minute of videos.
  3. Or Eli is so bad in preseason & camp he retires rather than going out & embarrassing himself anymore.
  4. Trades just don't happen because fans want them to. Usually a trade up happens when a team covets a player that they are convinced won't be there at their pick and the only way to get him is to trade up. If there is no demand for a specific player where you are drafting, you can't trade down. It also works the same way if you want a player & nobody is willing to take what you're offering. Best example is the Bills 2004 draft. Donahoe wanted to trade up for Roethlisberger & either nobody above Pittsburgh was willing to give up on the player they wanted to draft in their spot or Donahoe wasn't offering enough to get them to move down. Then later in the 1st round Donahoe & Parcells got together on the trade that got the Bills JP Losman. Donahoe made his pitch and after Parcells stopped laughing at the thought the Bills were trading up for JP, the deal was made.
  5. Here's part of his bio: Deputy Editor of Bleeding Green Nation. Bleeding Green Nation is a Philadelphia Eagles site. He's just worried that Allen will surpass Wentz.
  6. Ray-Ray McCloud. A few weeks ago I'd have said his chances were none & none, but he's been one of the players who seemed to have stepped things up from last year in this year's OTAs.
  7. I expected Jones to go to the Giants in the 1st round all along . Even though I thought he'd be picked at 17, the Giants were sold on him (not Haskins as "the experts" thought) and really, if a team is sold on a QB why risk him not being there 11 picks away. I remember the Giants getting a lot of flack for picking Phil Simms at #7 and that turned out OK. Just because a guy is underhyped by the media doesn't mean teams don't have a 1st round grade on him.
  8. Meanwhile, Jones is making Gettleman look smarter than the media guys who mock drafted him much lower & the people who believed them: Daniel Jones outplayed Eli Manning in the New York Giants' minicamp. It was obvious, and it wasn't really close. Through three days of full-squad sessions, the sixth overall pick in April's draft looked like a better quarterback than Manning. He wasn't just more athletic (that's to be expected); he was also sharper, more accurate and more willing and able to challenge the defense with difficult downfield throws. https://bleacherreport.com/articles/2839815-giants-may-not-admit-it-but-daniel-jones-already-a-better-fit-than-eli-manning
  9. When I 1st started watching & the guy keeps repeating "Take Josh Allen" I thought it was a clip from last year & I expected to hear the name Barkley and then expected to see the same guy a year later when they picked Jones. All those Giants fans who wanted LB Josh Allen must have thought they could steal Josh Allen from the Bills just by drafting a guy with the same name. ? Seriously, Giants fans reacted the same way in 1979 when the Giants took Phil Simms, so I wouldn't count out Jones as their long term answer.
  10. It's pretty ironic that Troy Vincent was quoted. The same Troy Vincent who broke rookie JP Losman's leg in a pre season practice.
  11. I prefer guys who don't beat up their teammates: http://www.espn.com/nfl/trainingcamp08/news/story?id=3514554
  12. Who was at the table who were not in the photo? I see at least 2 others in front of Tasker on 1 side & Berchtold on the other.
  13. I don't need their opinions to be "more realistic". My whole point is the whole reason I'm a fan is to dream the dream. If it doesn't work out there's always next year. To start a season as in your word to be more realistic defeats the whole purpose of being a fan unless you have a team like last year where you expect a lousy season due to a lack of talent while in salary cap hell & the dream becomes seeing Josh Allen develop enough to envision the dream next year. Well, next year is now, I saw enough from Josh where the dream is nothing short of the Super Bowl. You can be more realistic but then don't expect me to move over & give you a spot on the bandwagon in December. I got my seat early and I won't be moving over for the converted "realistic" fans. When the Bills make the Super Bowl either this season or at the latest, next season, I'll be going to the Super Bowl while the realistic fans will not be able to go because they didn't plan ahead. In the early 1990s I used to tell my late father every year I was making plans to go to the Super Bowl. His exact words were "be realistic". Well for 4 straight years not only was my dream realistic, but I went to all 4 of the Bills Super Bowls because I was realistic enough to save up so I could afford to go.
  14. The 1st time I ever heard that said was by Coach Dickerson on WGR commenting on Leif Larsen, a man who will always be the trivia answer to "who did the Bills draft in the 6th round 5 picks before NE took Tom Brady".
  15. The whole point of being a fan can be summed up in one word: HOPE. If you don't have hope, either in the present or for the future, then what is the point of being a fan? I can go through a bad season (or 17) as long as I have cause for hope in the future. The people who are negative all the time need to find a new hobby where they can be happy, because football isn't working out for them. I remember the last time I felt this hopeful was in 1988, after I saw the direction the team was headed in. Now I went a little overboard and took a Bills t-shirt and ironed on letters that read "Super Bowl XXIII Champions" & wore it to opening day 9/4/88 vs the Vikings, but I'd rather feel that way than always saying to the Bills you're gonna lose, like Stillwell in A League of Their Own. So no, I'm not pumping any brakes no matter how much water the negative people try to throw on our road to the Super Bowl. I believe in Josh Allen as I have early on. I bought his jersey the day after the Minnesota game because he gives me hope of something special every time he's on the field. Just like Jim Kelly did back in the late 1980s.
  16. Josh Allen. As unbelievable as it sounds, there are actually some people crazy enough to still question his status as a Franchise QB.
  17. Mike Williams. A name so good that you get 2 for 1. Both were major disappointments, although fat Mike cost a lot more.
  18. Worst overreaction to me is the posters who are sure we drafted a player a round or 2 too early, or were sure we could have drafted a player without moving up. 2nd worst, the ones who claim we "ruined" a player. The only way to ruin a player is to put him in a spot where he shouldn't have been in & he gets a career ending injury. Examples are the people who claimed we could have stayed at 12 and drafted Josh Allen there without giving up two 2nd rounders to go from 12 to 7 even though there is zero evidence he would have been available at 12. Just as bad are the ones who complained when the Bills drafted EJ in the 1st round when he would have been there in the 3rd. Once again, no evidence that that was true. Even worse, EJ proved that he wasn't worth being taken as a 3rd round pick. A bust shouldn't have been drafted in any round. I respect the people who complained he shouldn't have been drafted period over the ones who called him a 3rd rounder-clearly he proved not worthy of a 3rd round pick. Also, JP, EJ etc were not ruined by their coaches. JP had one of the most respected QB coaches in the NFL in Sam Wyche his 1st 2 seasons. Mularkey & Jauron didn't do anything to hurt JP other than recognize that they needed to get him off the field ASAP. Same goes for Marrone's recognition that EJ was not the QB he wanted to be tied to. As soon as Orton quit, Marrone was out of here rather than face another season with EJ as the #1 QB on his depth chart.
  19. It looks like they're using the traditional QB ratings. It's a stat I absolutely hate among the many QB stats that I hate. For example Rob Johnson as a Buffalo Bill had a passer rating of 85.5 while Jim Kelly had a passer rating of 84.4. (Kelly did beat RJ's 83.6 career record) So accordingly, in Bills history based on QB passer ratings RJ>JK-ABSURD!!!!! Also in terms of another over-worn stat, completion %, RJ in Buffalo 61.3% (60.5 career), JK 60.1%. Another stat where RJ > JK. This is why anyone in the media who uses any type of QB ratings, percentages, etc is dead to me. Just give me wins. A QB who wins > than any QB who has better stats. Yes I know the article uses a winning record as one of the variables, but they lost me the second they introduced a QB rating into the mix. Especially a ridiculous cut off of 75. Even Trent Edwards, JP Losman and EJ Manuel topped 75. So to put it in perspective , the 4 most vilified QBs in the drought years (RJ, JPL, TE, & EJM) all topped 75 career QB passer ratings.
  20. Kelly got a 15 & Marino got a 16. I wouldn't hold a 13 Wonderlic against him. Who knows what the class of 2018 will look like in 5 years? I don't care as long as everyone rates Josh Allen #1 in due time. Also, give Jackson a break. Aren't there rules against players & coaches communication in the off-season? Blame the players association.
  21. Why isn't Schatz in NFL management? Clearly if he knows more than the NFL GMs someone would have offered him a job by now. I doubt he's making anything close to the $1 million to $3 million going rate a GM in the NFL makes. Either he hates money, likes spending all day on the computer in his mother's basement or he just isn't good enough to have a team trust his judgement.
  22. Toronto is not Buffalo's NBA team. The Buffalo Braves are. Sure they've been gone for 41 years now, vacationing in SoCal, but like many Buffalonians, eventually they will come home.
  23. Eli shouldn't get in, even with 2 rings. Phil Simms has 1 ring & another where he was the starter most of the season before his injury and he'll never get in. So it's not automatic just because he played in NY. If Eli gets in it will be because of his last name-I hope the voters aren't that swayed by his name. For most of his career Eli has been mediocre. The only thing he's got going for him is he's unflappable and may be one of the best clutch players of his era (obviously Brady dwarfs everyone else, although Eli beat him twice with the SB on the line). The problem is that there were too many times when he was too far behind in the 4th quarter for his best attribute to matter.
  24. Every QB who has started 3 or more Super Bowls is either in the HOF or will be a 1st ballot HOFer (P.Manning & Brady). The most important thing for a QB is being a consistent winner & a champion, not some stats that some people could use to say Rob Johnson was better than Jim Kelly. Absolutely-screw QB stats! A lot of mediocre QBs have 1 Super Bowl, but the greats play in multiple Super Bowls & the GOATS of their time won multiple Supers (post 1966).
