  1. He's been with Tasker on the radio this week & I'm surprised by his lack of knowledge. Yesterday he talked about how Miami traded Wes Welker to NE & expressed astonishment that they would trade him in the division. What he obviously had no knowledge of is the fact Welker was a restricted free agent & had agreed to terms with NE on a contract with a poison pill that would make it impossible for Miami to match. Because the contract wasn't signed the fact that NE had Miami over a barrel is somewhat obscured because Welker signed a new contract with NE after the trade, but anyone who covers a team in the division should know this. Then today they were talking about players whose careers were cut short by injury. Brown didn't even know what position Greg Cook played. Greg Cook's story is well known by just about anyone who knows NFL history. Once again, maybe acceptable for casual or younger fans, but for a guy who covers the NFL for a living, pretty bad.
  2. If head coaches are drug tested, he may be on suspension by opening day.
  3. This is why a team should go for best player available over a player who fits a system. Chances are pretty good that unless a player is drafted by one of the few franchises that have long term coaching stability, a good player will outlast his coaches. Of the 32 current coaches 20 have been in their position fewer than 5 years. When a 1st rounder signs, he signs a 4 year deal with a 5th year option. Considering how nearly 2/3 of the 1st rounders are projected to have a longer commitment to the team than the coach, drafting a player to fit a system is GM malpractice. The best, or worst, example was Ragland. He was drafted because he fit Rex Ryan's system, with the Bills trading up 8 spots & giving up 2 extra 4ths. He got hurt, never played a real down in Buffalo, Rex got fired & Ragland was a bad fit in the new coach's system. So after spending a 2nd & 2 #4s, all the Bills got back was a 4th, not even in the next draft, which further devalues the pick they got. They ended up using that pick as part of a 3 pick package to move up in the 3rd round & draft Knox. PS: This is why unless Arizona feels that Josh Rosen is a total bust, they had no business drafting Murray & dumping Rosen for pennies on the dollar.
  4. The main reason the Bills rank so high is because Allen on a QB sneak is automatic on 4th & a yard or less.
  5. There's a big difference. The former players who were in the conference championships were guys who either played out their rookie contracts and left as free agents (some for big $) or were traded for something valuable (like Watkins for a 2nd & Gaines). Meanwhile, all of the 2016 draft picks with the exception of Lawson were gone before opening day 1 season later with virtually nothing in return and most of the ones still in the league are being viewed as camp bodies with little chance of being on a 2019 NFL 53 man roster. 2016's draft had a lot of misses.
  6. Why Whaley wasn't fired immediately after the 2016 season ended is beyond belief. He was already gagged and told never to speak to the media after his disaster of a final press conference.
  7. Allen is closest to Brady, Wilson & Rodgers. All 3 Super Bowl Champions. Around 13% looks like the sweet spot & Josh is already there. Advanced well beyond his years.
  8. My guess is the biggest Ravens fans are the ones who weren't born until after the Browns moved to Baltimore. The older fans grew up with the Colts and as any real fan knows, you don't just switch teams, even when you have to give up the old one in disgust as they leave & another team moves in to replace them. In the bay area, the Raiders are leaving after this season but their fans are not just going to start rooting for the 49ers just because they're the closest NFL team.
  9. Jones booed at Yankee Stadium: https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2019/06/18/daniel-jones-gets-booed-at-yankee-stadium/
  10. I once had someone try to fix me up with a woman who she knew but not very well. We started by talking on the phone. Back in those days I had season tickets & never missed a Bills home game . At one point she asked me "What's going to happen when you can't go to games any longer? " We never made it to a 1st date. A few weeks later I ran into the woman who tried to fix us up. By that time she had gotten to know the other woman better & when I told her I never went out with the woman she fixed me up with and I had to tell the woman she was too depressing for me to date with she said "Good, she's crazy, she calls me up in the mornings, curses me out & hangs up" So yes, it's always better to run away from someone who gives you the “I have no interest in sports” line, especially if she's planning on a future when she's going to cut off your sports before you've even been on a 1st date.
  11. Belichick has made a HOF career by outcoaching most of the guys on the other sideline. I wouldn't put the blame on Lynn for joining that group. The funniest thing about the Patriots win was something I saw months later. There was a show on Showtime called Action where they showed this tout named "Vegas Dave" picking the Chargers and getting hammered online by the people who bought his selection. The guy was a big mouth tout bragging about his success who ended up in trouble with the law: Prominent sports bettor David Oancea, known in gambling circles as “Vegas Dave,” pleaded guilty Monday to a misdemeanor in federal court. He originally faced 19 felony counts after authorities said he used other people’s Social Security numbers to open player accounts at casinos. The alleged crimes occurred between February 2015 and February 2016 and involved transactions that amounted to more than $1.2 million. https://www.reviewjournal.com/crime/courts/sports-bettor-vegas-dave-takes-plea-deal-in-federal-court-1584318/
  12. It's a joke. Lighten up Francis. You don't even get the context, so I'll explain it in terms you can understand. Whenever the Bills get a new player, someone chimes in with a post proclaiming "championship". Do you get it now or are you still in a fog?
  13. The reality of seeing the great Tyrod Taylor wearing your team's uniform does that to players. One look at Tyrod and all he can think is CHAMPIONSHIP!
  14. I don't know if I can go 5 deep, but my #1 worst game ever attended was 10/11/09 a 6-3 loss to Cleveland. Near the end of the game the score was tied 3-3 & it looked like the game, which was excruciating to watch , was going to go into overtime. Then Cleveland punted & Roscoe Parrish fumbled & lost the ball. Cleveland recovered & I was so happy when they kicked the winning FG to end the misery. It was a long drive back to Albany.
  15. 400 is a little high. Say you're just going to Bills home games in Buffalo & OP. If you went to every one & the playoffs for the last 50 years the total number of games would be under 400, due to 14 game schedules prior to 1978, Bills home games sent to Toronto & the game played in Detroit due to the snow storm. Now I've only lived in WNY for 10 seasons of the 46 seasons I've been going to Bills games & haven't lived there since 1982 but I went 16 straight seasons never missing anything but preseason games and my total in 46 seasons is only 257 games.
  16. The criteria was you had to have attended the game. I never went to a game at Candlestick even though I've been to 2 games at the Santa Clara stadium 4 seasons ago.
  17. 1st: 1990-1 AFC Championship on 1/20/91. Bills 51 Raiders 3. I had already bought my airline ticket to Orlando (not flying into the Super Bowl city is much cheaper & easier for flights, car rentals etc) for the Super Bowl and by halftime I knew I was going. The whole 2nd half was a celebration of the Bills 1st Super Bowl appearance. 2nd: The comeback on 1/3/93. Bills 41 Oilers 38. Not only did I stay the whole game, but after I got home about 5 hours later the 1st thing I did was watch the tape of the game I had just seen. 3rd: Super Bowl XXV Bills 19 Giants 20. I was so excited to go to the Super Bowl I barely slept all week. Even though we lost, I was so proud to have seen a great game. 4th: Opening day 9/7/80. Bills 17 Dolphins 7. The 10 year losing streak vs Miami was over. I like many other fans went on the field after the game, the only time I've ever been on the field. 5th: 12/9/73. Bills 37 Patriots 13. My 1st NFL game. Growing up in the NYC metro area my father didn't know how to get tickets to the Giants & after the Super Bowl victory Jets tickets were tough too. So I had never been to an NFL game until I was in college & I heard such bad things about the Rockpile when I 1st got to WNY, that I waited until the new stadium opened before going to a game. The biggest conclusion after looking at the dates: There hasn't been a lot of thrills in recent years. Also, I gave up my seasons after 22 years after the 2011 season.
  18. The Bills went from the beginning of the offseason through the 2017 draft without a GM. Whaley was dead GM walking, all he had was a title. He was not even allowed to speak to anyone in the media during that time. Most of the GMs work is done when free agency & the draft are over anyway.
  19. 1st step to Simpson 2020. He sees all these other septuagenarians in the presidential race using Twitter like Trump, Warren (in a few days), Sanders & Biden and thinks "Why not me!"
  20. You're doing it wrong. Here's the right way: Making a Classic Coke Float Fill a glass 3/4 with cola. Set the glass on small plates so you can catch the overflow from the fizz. ... Add the ice cream. Slowly add one scoop of vanilla ice cream into each glass. ... Top off your float. ... Mix it up (optional). ... Serve.
  21. I was in the parking lot because the people I went to the game with wanted to leave early & since I wasn't the driver that game I didn't have a choice to stay.
  22. Ok, I have no class. On 10/10/1993 I was watching Miami vs Cleveland at home alone on TV because the Bills had a Monday night game and there was no conflict. At the time the Bills & Dolphins had the same record & were in what looked like a season long battle for AFC supremacy. Then Dan Marino went down with a torn achilles and I stood up and cheered & started singing the "Buffalo's Going To The Super Bowl" song. Then I called up a couple of Bills fans & we celebrated. Back in those days, fans my age vividly remember the Dolphins beating the Bills throughout the 70s and the big celebration on opening day 1980 when we beat Miami at "Rich" Stadium. To this day, it's the only time I've been on the field, as I joined many other fans celebrating at the end of the game. The Dolphins were hated by just about every Bills fan and I, like many other fans, felt if it was bad for the Dolphins it was good for the Bills.
  23. Thanks for giving me more evidence how useless QB stats can be. Bottom line: 5-11 often times looking totally lost with the game on the line. As I often say to the stat boys. If stats told the story instead of coaches & players spending hours watching film, they'd just hand out a piece of paper at team meetings, go over the stats & never watch a minute of videos.
