  1. I highly recommend going to WFAN's website & listening. 73 year old Steve Somers who has seen it all, is calling the Jets the worst team in the NFL. Unfortunately some fans are making Yankees calls when all I want to hear is the Jets funeral march.
  2. Unnecessary roughness. Lots of leeway what they can call.
  3. I had us 11-5 this season, winning the 1st 4 games, so, so far I've been right the 1st 3 games. I had losses at Tenn, KC, SF, NE & home vs Sea. I could easily see us winning Tenn, especially if they aren't at full strength, and SF. That gets us up to 13-3.
  4. I hope the Chiefs win by 50 and WRGB never shows another Patriots game this season. I was holding out hope, but right after the news tonight CH 6 advertised Patriots game for Sunday. MFers.
  5. At least this time the fix in the schedule should be pretty easy. Pittsburgh /Baltimore game gets moved from week 7 to week 8 since they have the same bye week in week 8. Then Pittsburgh/Tennessee gets moved to week 7 where Tennessee has their bye originally scheduled.
  6. Here's a great Allen & the Bills management team story: https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/nfl/2018/07/19/hair-raising-landing-didnt-deter-bills-from-drafting-allen/36985297/ Here's another one: https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/how-the-bills-shocked-themselves-and-landed-josh-allen-tremaine-edmunds-in-2018-nfl-draft/ From 1st story: Once they gathered their breath, the Bills then proceeded with meeting Allen, and put him through a workout. Without providing Allen with a script of plays beforehand, Daboll began yelling out situations to see how quickly the quarterback could digest the information and make a throw. "It was, 'All right, the deep dig. Now. Five-step, this. Go.' And he processed it quickly," Beane said. "His workout was very good. And when we left there, we felt very confident." They were confident enough to give up two second-round picks to Tampa Bay and trade up five spots to draft Allen at No. 7. Where their confidence wavered involved what bumps they might encounter upon leaving Laramie. "We were a little distracted about how we were getting out of here," Beane said. "It was like, 'Where do we drive to have the plane meet us?'" CHARTING ALLEN To address questions regarding Allen's accuracy, Bills scouts turned to game tape to chart every throw he attempted. They assessed what caused the incompletions, including times he threw the ball away when his receivers weren't open. The Bills also took into account Wyoming's offensive philosophy, which didn't include many short passes. "He had no gimme throws," Beane said of a quarterback who went 152 of 270, in completing just 56.3 percent of his passes, with 16 touchdowns and six interceptions in 11 games last year. The only real concern was Allen's footwork, which Beane said notably improved by the time he played at the Senior Bowl in January. "I'm not saying it's fixed," Beane said of Allen's footwork. "But improved." From 2nd story: Allen helped his stock with a strong Pro Day and with how he handled himself during meetings with Bills ownership and management, both at Wyoming and in Buffalo. The more film they reviewed the more his best attributes stood out to them, with Beane still raving about Allen's gutty performance against Colorado State, a 16-13 Wyoming win under duress in November in which Allen completed just 10 of 20 passes for 138 yards and no scores, and accounted for just 198 total yards. "It was a snow game," Beane said. "In the first half it rained and in second half it snowed, and he was not only their running game and throwing game, he was their whole offense and he willed that team to victory. His stats, if you look at his stats, they look terrible. But if you watch the tape, that's where you see a guy that carried his team to victory." When Beane went to watch Allen play he paid almost as close attention to how he conducted himself on the sidelines -- keeping cool and rallying lesser teammates who routinely let him down with mistakes and dropped passes -- as he did to what was happening between the lines. His attitude and team-first ethos won the Bills over through the process. The subsequent time they spent with Allen leading up to the draft -- after that shaky interaction at the Senior Bowl -- backed up everything he had seen on film or from the binoculars in the press box. "We met Josh for the first time at the Senior Bowl and spent about a half hour with him, and it was tough," Beane said. "He was super nervous and I thought he was trying too hard, as some of the other ones were. He was just really wanting to impress. "When we flew to Laramie his flight was late and he was flying from L.A. to Denver and I think he felt bad that he was late for dinner and he showed up and I was like, 'Man, we've got our owners here, he's going to feel really [nervous].' And he was relaxed and calm and confident. It was like he was a different kid than we saw two months earlier. It just felt natural with him. "And we brought him here to Buffalo too. You know we saw him in his surroundings in Laramie, so let's bring him to our surroundings, and he just seemed like one of our type of guys. And you saw that leadership and the things I saw on the sidelines when I saw him play live. Even at the Senior Bowl he was high-fiving linemen, patting guys on the butt, clapping all the time. He's into it every play. It wasn't about him, it was about the team, the we, and that's what I think is really important."
  7. Dave Te Thomas, who is my favorite draft guru also had Josh as the best QB prospect in the draft. His full QB scouting report of the top prospects is here: https://www.bigblueview.com/2018/4/21/17264242/nfl-draft-report-josh-allen-cream-of-quarterback-crop-2018-nfl-draft-sam-darnold-josh-rosen Cream of the Crop -- Josh Allen, Wyoming While Allen is likely to go high in the draft, this projection is based on his pro football potential. Yes, there are still quite a few rough edges to work out, and those that compare him to Carson Wentz are missing the boat (Wentz is much more advanced), but he does have a Joe Flacco-like arm and the Matt Ryan ability to change a game with his arm. All he needs is patient coaching.
  8. The Bills always get dibs over the Pats. This is the 1st time in a long time we didn't get a game when it's between the Bills & Pats for airtime. We get 9-10 Bills games every year.
  9. Back in those days I used to bring a little Sony Watchman TV with me to the game to watch replays. Before the kick I said "The Bills are going to block the kick & run it back for a touchdown" After the Bills did just that, one of the fans near me said "Does that TV tell the future?"
  10. Fitz is going to be the next Tony Romo. He's so smart he's going to one-up Romo & predict the next 4 downs of plays instead of just the next one like Romo does.
  11. The last time I looked before today the guide on my TV (Verizon FIOS) showed the Bills game. I just checked & it now says KC-NE. Damn Mahomes.
  12. The Buffalo Bills announced Tuesday that they will not have fans at home games for the foreseeable future as part of continued safety measures issued by New York state during the coronavirus pandemic. That would include the next home game, a highly anticipated Thursday night matchup with the defending Super Bowl champion Kansas Chiefs, on Oct. 15. "We promise you we are working diligently behind the scenes to ensure we are ready to provide fans with a safe environment should protocols change and we are able to root for the Bills in person," the team said in a statement, noting that there have no been changes to the state protocols that led to an August announcement that fans would not be allowed at Bills Stadium for the first two home games. https://buffalonews.com/sports/bills/bills-announce-no-fans-at-home-games-for-foreseeable-future/article_2b8c94f6-0287-11eb-8762-cbabf513f6bb.html#utm_source=buffalonews.com&utm_campaign=%2Fnewsletter-templates%2Fbreaking&utm_medium=PostUp&utm_content=f6f633dfc1b785591f7641fa776c8fa2904313ca
  13. His son wrote a book containing his best columns. I just found out about it & bought the book. It should arrive later this week. https://www.amazon.com/Whats-New-Harry-Courier-Express-Columnist/dp/0692553584 See all 3 images What's New, Harry?: The Best of Buffalo Courier-Express Columnist Phil Ranallo Paperback – November 12, 2015 by Paul Ranallo (Author)
  14. That's why it's so easy for the Negative Nancys to say they hate the choice of the QB taken in the 1st round. Then if the guy is EJ or JP they can say "I told you so" for the next few years. I'd rather support the team's choice and hope they were right. Unless the guy is Peyton Manning it's almost impossible for the average fan to predict the greats vs the busts. A good example is Josh Rosen. I didn't see anyone on the days near the draft predicting the guy would be clearing waivers after 2 seasons and nobody would want him on their active roster. Also in the year P. Manning was drafted a lot of people thought Leaf was the best QB in that draft. The advantage the teams have is they actually talk with these players. The Bills saw the desire and attitude that would drive Josh Allen that none of us could see or hear. At this time it appears they made a wise choice, but even with all the advantages the teams have in evaluating these guys over us, they still get it wrong on 1st round QBs a lot, but if you look at the starting QBs, the majority were 1st rounders so the teams have to swing for the fences in the 1st round and hope they get a Manning & not a Leaf.
  15. Orlovsky was one of the most vocal anti-Allen analysts when Josh was drafted. The smart ones are all admitting they were wrong. Orlovsky has slowly been coming along as Josh has progressed and his conversion now appears to be complete.
  16. The Jags regular PK, Josh Lambo, is on IR with a hip injury. Hauschka's time in Jacksonville is as long as Lambo is still on IR. Too bad he didn't sign with a team without a viable kicker, but if he performs well in Jacksonville he'll get a job somewhere.
  17. What Sherman said about every sports media member simply isn't true. Among those who had Josh Allen as the top QB prospect in the 2018 draft were Mel Kiper Jr & my favorite draft guru Dave Te Thomas.
  18. This week it's even better: https://www.theringer.com/nfl/2020/9/28/21459431/winners-losers-nfl-week-3-josh-allen-sam-darnold-falcons Loser: Josh Allen Takes In some fields, it’s considered good to intake new information and adjust one’s opinions. In sports media, this is a mark of deep shame. Every time one of my tweets ends up on Old Takes Exposed, I have to pay The Ringer back $5,000 of my salary and draft a handwritten apology note to Bill Simmons and each of my editors. Last year I predicted Freddie Kitchens would win the NFL’s Coach of the Year award; when he was instead fired after one season, my girlfriend of six years dumped me for a guy who correctly projected that the 49ers would win the NFC West. This is a big problem, because every single sports media member universally agreed that the Bills made a huge mistake drafting Josh Allen seventh overall in 2018. “He does not seem especially good at playing football,” I wrote ahead of the draft. Bills fans remember this. I was not alone. Unfortunately for me, and untold dozens of other media members, Allen seems good at football. Early in his career, the Bills won despite brutal performances from Allen due to their top-notch defense; Sunday, Allen threw for 311 yards and accounted for all five touchdowns, including the last-minute game-winner in a 35-32 win over the Rams: Worst of all for those like me: Allen seems to be singling out his former doubters. In 2018, Rams cornerback Jalen Ramsey called Allen “trash” in a freewheeling GQ interview where he set out to diss half the quarterbacks in the league. Sunday, Allen targeted Ramsey on his most impressive touchdown pass: After seeing what Allen did to Ramsey, I know my time is due. I also defamed Allen. I will spend the rest of my days in fear, knowing that I, too, am on Allen’s list.
  19. Two worst teams are in NY, the Giants & Jets. Lawrence should be looking at condos in Manhattan.
  20. The prize for the biggest loser goes to Rodger Sherman of The Ringer. Here's what he wrote after we drafted Allen & a recent check indicates he still hasn't learned anything in 2.5 years https://www.theringer.com/nfl/2018/4/27/17289496/2018-draft-winners-losers-buffalo-bills-josh-allen-lamar-jackson-baltimore-ravens Loser: The Buffalo Bills I would consider any team that used a first-round pick on Josh Allen to be the biggest loser of the first round. No good NFL quarterback has ever had statistics as bad as Allen’s college stats; his best-case statistical comparables include Brian Griese and Josh McCown. There are just so many videos of him missing easy passes so badly. Sure, his arm is strong enough that teams should value his potential, but “extremely strong quarterback who may never learn how to throw to receivers” seems to me like a Day 3 pick, not a first-rounder. I remain baffled that he was treated like a top prospect throughout the entire draft process. But the Bills didn’t just draft Allen. They traded up to get him, giving up two second-round picks to move up five spots. That’s a massive overpay on any draft value chart. And then the Bills also traded a third-rounder to the Ravens to move up from the 22nd pick to the 16th to select Tremaine Edmunds. Trading up is the move of a team in win-now mode. The Bills did so—but they selected a quarterback whose supporters even consider him a project. That doesn’t jibe. I’m so happy that the Bills got to the playoffs last year, and so confused about their future. Winner: All the Teams That Didn’t Draft Josh Allen Congrats to the Browns for listening to me and drafting Baker Mayfield instead of Josh Allen! Baker Mayfield was historically efficient at passing in college, setting the record for yards per passing attempt as a senior. Meanwhile, Allen averaged fewer yards per passing attempt than Rashaad Penny averaged per rushing attempt against the same competition in the Mountain West Conference. Congrats to the Bears, who picked eighth, one slot behind where Allen was taken. Since the pick ahead of theirs was used on a quarterback who struggles to throw a football to his teammates, the Bears got to draft Roquan Smith, who, in my opinion, was the best defender in college football last year. Congrats to the Cardinals, who picked 10th, and got to take Josh Rosen, because one of the teams ahead of them took the other Josh! Congrats to the Chargers, who got Derwin James—a projected top-10 pick—at no. 17! Congrats to the Ravens, who got Lamar Jackson—potentially the best quarterback in the draft!—with the 32nd and final pick in the first round! For the most part, life was really good for the 31 teams who didn’t take Josh Allen.
