Who is the best #14 in Bills history?
mushypeaches replied to Royale with Cheese's topic in The Stadium Wall
Yup, except I'm betting that at least 499,995 of those others don't carry the ticket stub around in their wallets as proof -

I'll always associate 14 with Frank Reich - having sat in the stands that amazing day in January 1993- 111 replies

Media coverage of Diggs trade before and after
mushypeaches replied to BarleyNY's topic in The Stadium Wall
Houston had a fun run last year as a surprise team with no expectations, playing a lot of non-primetime games and in a division where the other 3 teams basically tripped over themselves. Sure - Stroud had an excellent year and comported himself well, but the next step is the harder one. Let's see how they develop once they start to face a much harder schedule, with more media coverage, expectations, etc - before we all start to listen to the talking heads anoint them as the next best thing and a true title contender -
It's all part of Beane's yearly cycle of having more reserve experienced OL than we can reasonably keep. Then trade the guys on the fringe for future draft picks

Excellent write-up by the OP I agree that we do have an opportunity to be better next year - both with the young guys getting more targets, but also with an offseason to implement Brady's full scheme. I also think that there's a big opportunity to get more speed into the equation as well - something that we've missed since we had McKenzie. I'd like to see more motion, jet sweeps, all that fun stuff that I think really wasn't there last year. I think Samuel adds a dimension of that unpredictability so hopefully we get more of an infusion of that in the draft too.

I don't think it's any more nuts than our expectations were last year. All we need is a ticket to the playoffs, for the defense to show up, and for Josh to play like Josh The rest will sort itself out - and losing Diggs really doesn't impact the feasibility of winning it all in 2024

Do folks just not understand that we won 6 straight games at the end of the year with Diggs pretty much being a non-factor? The whole "we just gave up on 2024" narrative is just ridiculous given the weapons that we still have (and still have a draft and FA to acquire), plus another year of prime Josh Allen on the team Frankly, I'm super glad that Beane made the hard decision NOW rather than go through another season of declining production, and off-field drama, while taking targets away from a younger receiving crew

We're going to sign a veteran safety at some point soon - that way Beane can fully hedge his bets in the draft Especially since there's a lot of unsigned guys out there that at some point, the prices will start to come down Heck - even Hyde might decide to come back and can be had at a relatively low price That way, they can draft a safety in the middle rounds and ease him into dime looks and ST to start

Ridder traded to the Cardinals for WR Moore

Dan Marino played 6 pretty good seasons after tearing his Achilles, and I believe they made the playoffs 5 of those years Yeah he was still pretty good -
There's nothing to be bitter about - you can't judge the trade by how the TBD draftee works out - even if it's Justin Jefferson or Patrick Mahomes That's results-based analysis and really doesn't have any bearing on whether Beane made the right decision or not He traded a low 1st round draft pick for a known, proven, high-performing player, at a known cost Diggs has performed at or above the level we expected That's a solid trade any day of the week from a Bills perspective It just so happens that the Vikings are probably happy with the results too... although I'm not sure they won any playoff games and will have to pay Jefferson if they want to keep him...

What if Allen and Mahomes swapped exact situations?
mushypeaches replied to first_and_ten's topic in The Stadium Wall
It burns my eyes just having to look at this post I love the Bills and I freaking hate Kermit Mahomes It would probably damage my soul permanently to have to root for him -
That's some pretty hefty money for a 3rd string RB

Why not see if Sammy Watkins, Marcell Dareus, and Marshawn Lynch can come out of retirement so we can bring back all of the late-drought era malcontents!
-
You just can't have a ST'er making that much $ knowing that they offer nothing in terms of depth to the team. Yes, it's nice to have those guys but they become a luxury when you have to start paying your star QB Tyler Matakevich can wave goodbye too

Can you imagine if the Coach had still been doing radio during the Jauron or Marrone eras? On the plus side, if Ralph actually was listening to WGR, he might have fired Jauron "it's hard to win in the NFL" much earlier Marrone might have actually tried to instigate a fistfight with the Coach And Rex would have just hung out with him at the Old Country Buffet

Unused tickets of the comeback game
mushypeaches replied to Bills4life1924's topic in The Stadium Wall
I've kept the ticket stub in my wallet for most of the past 30 years. It's in significantly less than pristine condition... It is a great conversation piece though and I love to have it handy when I meet folks in bars or tailgating. And to this day, it's still the loudest, craziest crowd I've ever been a part of -
Let’s hope we never have to make an awful no-win choice like that again

WR or Dlineman? What would be your main priority..
mushypeaches replied to BillMafia716ix's topic in The Stadium Wall
The goal of this game is to outscore your opponents. With an elite level QB like Allen, I want elite level skill players surrounding him Until we get a defensive coaching staff that can actually scheme like Spagnuolo, it's not the right use of resources to surround them with top draft picks. Let them make do with what we have and it might just be good enough But we can't keep scoring 10, 20 points in these clutch playoff games against top QB's and expect to ever get a ring
