I think the main reason is that Samuel has lost a good part of the speed element that made him unique. Without that, he’s not awfully useful in this offense

Interesting to hear the difference in noise levels and overall Detroit fan attendance since the Thanksgiving game just 2 years ago. I was at that game - was my first visit to Detroit. It was probably about 25-30% Bills fans that day, and we were loud and proud The sense from talking to Lions fans then was that they were hopeful about the future, but still hedging their bets I'm sure that Thanksgiving had a lot to do with the fan mix - since Detroit hosts every year, it's not really that unique or special for them as it is for fans of the opposing team.

Beane and McDermott investing long-term into the OL has been the quietest but biggest improvement in the team the past two seasons. They stopped bringing in veteran re-treads as stopgaps and focused on both drafting/developing, but also identifying guys from other teams that can plug and play. Having a physical OL that can maul teams in the run game, and efficiently pass block has been the key to our success (and also keeping Josh Allen upright) Also having a high-caliber OL coach like Aaron Kromer has a lot to do with it too Marv & Polian also knew this during the SB years, and it was when key talent aged out and/or left via free agency that the team really declined Outside of Ruben Brown, they couldn't draft or develop anyone of note (and yes, I'm counting John Fina who was a nice player, but not a premium LT)

I recognize that they are different positions, but it's not hard to think that Williams is already better than Edmunds ever was for this team. At least the guy hits the run gaps aggressively instead of endlessly getting caught in the wash 10 yards downfield

For every one tackle that he's in great position for and brings the guy down solidly, there's nine more where he's slow getting to the ball, takes a bad angle or just flat out misses. Let's not pretend that Hamlin is anything more than he is - a depth guy who's just decent enough not to hurt you too much, and will never be good enough to be an impact player
