He has no confidence in himself, no confidence in his OLine, no confidence in the receivers and no confidence in the playcalls...

Orlovsky has a video of a play where he has a perfect pocket and he never even set his feet on the dropback, he kept leaning forward and basically took off from a clean pocket, ran into pressure and then threw a ball out of bounds as he was getting hit...

It was really bad QB play...reminded me of something we would see in Josh's rookie season, but Allen was still learning how to play...Wentz has no excuses for this.

Wentz has been fools gold for a couple of years now.  His play is sloppy and leadership skills non-existent.  Wouldn't be surprised if he's out of the league in 3 years

  2. Meh

They got up for a divisional opponent.  The Jets do that too.

Drew Lock is never going to be much more than the 25th rated QB in the league.  I don't see him beating us.

Vic Fangio is certainly not out-coaching anybody on game days

I get it - any given Sunday, but I'm pretty confident about beating this version of the Broncos

I have a lot of faith in the Bills contingency planning.  I think they have throwing contests and kicking contests for all the players during training camp, and they have ideas about who could work as a kicker or a punter in a pinch.  Long snapper is a good question.

This is priceless - I want to be standing next to you in a playoff game when we send Micah Hyde out to kick the game winning FG

There always are 6 or 10 or 12 kickers with NFL experience (some game experience, but at least significant practice experience) bagging groceries somewhere, staying in shape and practicing their kicking.  When your kicker goes down, you just go sign one of those guys.

I don't see the need to keep kickers on the practice squad.   Practice squad players are essentially free agents - they can leave any time to take a roster spot elsewhere.   If the Bills have a kicker on their practice squad and almost any NFL team offers him a contract to be on the active roster, he's going.  If the Bills don't have one and they need a kicker, a kicker on someone else's practice squad would take the job in a heartbeat.

So the point here is that with the Covid roster restrictions, you need at least 6 days to bring a guy in.  If anything happens to your kicker within that timeframe, you're stuck with the guys that you have on the roster.  What I'm suggesting is that going into late season + playoff games, what does it cost us to have that replacement guy already in the building and on the Practice Squad.  I don't care if you have to get a new guy every week because some other team poaches the one you have.  It's a position that can make a tangible difference in the outcome of a game if you don't have the guy that can perform in that very specific situation.

Would you want the Bills to have to go for a TD on the last play, down by 2 points, from the 15 yard line?

Or would you like to have a guy on the roster that can hit a 32 yard FG 90% of the time?

  5. Seeing full well the escalation of COVID and its random impacts on NFL teams and schedules, first I'm glad that the Bills have been diligent with protocols, and have been proactive with isolating one of their QB's (Fromm) all season.  Not that he would have done great in a situation like the Broncos just went through on Sunday, but you get the picture.

At what point would it seem prudent to sign a reserve place-kicker and stash him on the Practice Squad for this type of insurance?

With 15 spots on the PS, it's not like we're really hurting the team by devoting one to an emergency kicker.  But I'd certainly rather have one going into the playoffs than be forced to scramble or heaven forbid, cost us a game if Bass can't play.  I think it's the next step of being sufficiently prepared and ready - and maybe ahead of the curve if other playoff-bound teams are also thinking this way.

    C'mon Beane - get'r done!

If Schwartz is available, you go get him, in a heartbeat.  Dude is a defensive genius.

Let's pump the brakes a little bit on this one.  Yes, we had high sack numbers, but we consistently got gashed by the run many times when he was with us.

McDermott has chosen definitively over the last 4 years to be bend-not-break and disciplined vs the highly aggressive attacking style that Schwartz, Williams, Ryan and others preach.  It's not sexy, and it does piss us off as fans from time to time, but it has proven to be mostly effective

Since the NFL is likely to do nothing at least we should be able to have some fun.  I thought this would merit its own thread as it is a little off topic from the testing/schedule stuff.  You are now in charge of the NFL's punishment of the Titans.  What do you do?

    Mine:

The Titans are hereby ordered to hire Bill O'Brien as GM, Head Coach, Director of player personnel and administrator of salary cap for a period of not less than 5 years.  The league reserves the right to remove any coordinators or coaches from his staff should they have any success.  O'Brien will be allowed to hire Doug Marrone as his OC if he desires and Jacksonville will receive no compensation other than being rid of Marrone.

They should also have to bring in Greggggggggggg Williams as Defensive Coordinator and Rex Ryan as General Buffoon

  8. It's tough because the rule changes on kickoffs have essentially neutered the value of a good returner and return unit

And special teams as a whole have become so much better over the last 20 years that there isn't such a disparity between teams or units.  Not like it was in the 80's & 90's

But Roberts is still a top-shelf returner, and key to this team's success.  It's just that the big plays aren't going to be there like in past days.  But consistency is still a plus

  9. what was the point of drafting a guy if you're not going to develop him and/or give him a chance to play a certain number of games?

Of course, the flip side is that it wasn't hard for people to see early on that this guy is EJ Manuel 2.0 and you shouldn't need a long time to figure it out and move on
