  1. So, where do we go from here? Even if Chandler is healthy, we need a TE who can stretch the field. I don't see one available in FA so we're gonna have to draft one and because there are more pressing needs (QB, WR, 2 quality LBs, G?) we'll have to wait to draft one later--perhaps, in the 5th. Davis was a risk (not gonna debate that here, we did that at great length in another thread) but the upside was BIG and he settled on a one year deal so even if it didn't work out it was only a one and done. If Chandler isn't 100% we're REALLY weak at TE which means our weak WRs will be less effective and defenses can focus on neutralizing Spiller. Domino effect...
  2. Matt Scott write up is intriguing. Is it worth taking him in the 3rd after picking up value picks at LB and WR (in no particular order). I wish he lasted until the 4th because I think that would be a great spot to take him. A taller Russell Wilson in the 3rd or 4th is better than a flop in the 1st.
  3. You summed up what we should do perfectly! A+
  4. Greg Ellis: "nine games into the 2006 season, Ellis tore his Achilles tendon, one of the most debilitating of all injuries for a football player. Even Ellis doubted his comeback at times." He was voted the Associated Press 2007 NFL Comeback Player of the Year after a 12 1/2 sack season. He was in his 10th season at the time of his injury (and was 31 yrs old)--post-op he played until 2010 (most players don't sniff that many years in the NFL). Guess the naysayers would have passed on AP after his injury and wouldn't have waited to see what the experts (i.e., medical professionals) had to say. Not saying that Davis is OK and will be fine for all I know he might be shot--that said, my point is merely not to rush to judgment. Everyone recovers from surgery differently--there is no guarantee one way or another (I'm a year removed from double spinal fusion and still hurtin'--other patients are jogging). Davis is young (27) and medical technology improves every day--maybe Davis can come back and perform at a high level or maybe he can't. What's wrong with waiting instead of hating (that was a BAD pun, sorry!).
  5. There have been players who have come back from achilles' injuries and others who haven't (as medical technology increases so too does the return rate of pro athletes from injuries that used to be career ending). The Bills medical staff will put in their due diligence in assessing whether or not Davis is one of those guys who can return. Until we hear from an orthopedic specialist who has examined Davis and his MRIs, etc... none of us can do anything but speculate. If he is one of thos guys who can return and perform, he is clearly a good signing.
  6. Fred Davis has allegedly been medically cleared. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2013/02/26/fred-davis-gets-medical-clearance/. With injuries and football in general, there's always a risk so take one with a big upside. When healthy this guy can stretch the field as well as any TE in the game which is a dimension we don't have (though you can argue that TJ Graham already provides us with that skill and as an added bonus he also is great at dropping passes!). He's a top 10 TE who has the talent to be even better. People should be thankful the Bills are going after him instead of Chris.Cooley, Dallas Clark or Travis Beckum, etc... He's a 1st tier FA. Settle down, folks! PS. It also frees up a draft pick for another position. And this guy is young so he could be here for years, he's not a one or two year rental.
  7. NFLN reports the Fitz contract with the Titans at two years $3.25 million...
  8. The Pats were concerned about his behavir-guy might have issues. Better be careful: http://www.rotoworld.com/player/nfl/449/brandon-lloyd Ramses, Ramses, Ramses--6'6" and has lots of mileage left on him and he's open when he's covered, Buddy! Sure he's cheap too so we can also sign an OL, TE and a LB. We're done. All 2nd tier talent yippee!
  9. Don't forget--on a related note--we also need a TE because Chandler is coming off an injury. Regardless, it would be nice to have a TE who can stretch the field. We have more holes to fill than a porn star!!!
  10. We have no money to make a splash. I'm back on the Ramses Barden bandwagon--fits Buddy's "open when he's covered" and showed flashes last year. Might be Danario Alexander with good knees. And, he's affordable!!! Don't know who we can get at Guard. They screwed up with Rhinehart... We need to be realistic--there will be no big signings. That was last year. Deal with plug-in guys. Take a shot at DJ Williams--versatile LBer--has a two year deal in him. Make sure he checks out--i.e., he's learned his lessons. Is also affordable.
  11. Always one of my favorite LBers in Madden (very fast!) sure that translates to the NFL!!
  12. Amen! I'm not one for hating but you got it right with the David Nelson crap. DHB at a fair price is worth a shot.
  13. Great story Kansas (though I don't like the 'tude). Anyone of these guys should get down on their knees and thank their lucky stars that they get a chance to play pro ball--no matter where. Wish we could get Arthur but ain't happening--maybe Jamie Collins or Zaviar Gooden, etc...
  14. Harper was timed at 4.47-4.49 at his pro day--not too shabby for a 6'1" 229 lb WR. Probably gone in the 4th but if he lasted 'til the 5th that would be nice. His teammate Arthur Brown OLB did well too. And boy do we need LB'ers. http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/blog/rob-rang/21862387/pro-days-ksus-brown-harper-quiet-critics-with-impressive-workout
  15. The man who made the business decision to give Fitz this contract should have been fired. It's a joke he still has a job! Fitz's release is confirmation it was a very bad decision. In what other business would an exec make such a horrible decision and still be employed (sure, on Wall Street he would have gotten a bonus and in DC he would have been relected--but I mean aside from those places!!).
  16. Trade back--get D help and then you're not reaching for a QB... In this scenario, I would then draft a WR or TE in 2 (depending on FA) and then grab another LB in the 3rd. Trade back, please!!!!
  17. Alexander is a restricted FA. It was expected he would be tendered at a 1st or 2nd round pick. Which would have been rich when considering the salary he will also demand. They have now tendered him at original pick tender and since he was an unsigned rookie they get no picks. So, this begs the question--why would they do that? From what I've read they must have a concern about his knees. That means other teams should be too. Should we risk big $$ on someone who might be out more than he plays? I don't think we have the cap space to take the risk-too many holes to fill. That said, if he were to be cleared by the medical staff it might be worth a shot (though we might merely end up negotiating for SD)...
  18. Jones is BPA over Smith/Barkley. He's Von Miller-lite. Would be a BIG boost to the LB corps. Love him at 8 if he is indeed medically cleared. Take our QB in 2nd, another LB in the 3rd and then WR/TE in the 4th (depending on FA}, CB in 5th and OL in 6th.
  19. I agree that the most likely trade down would involve a team looking for the number three OT because there is a legitimate drop-off after Joeckel, Fisher and Johnson (I think Johnson is the guy people might move for--after the Combine everyone was buzzing about his upside and some were saying he might turn out as the best of the lot because he has only played OT briefly so his ceiling is higher--personally wish this was last year when needed an OT). That said, even if it were possible, Buddy won't do it. I say we draft for value-defense not QB--LB, LB and then go QB or WR or TE. By the way, where are all the people who in the past years have vehemently opposed drafting for need rather than value?
  20. Better than I would about them acquiring Percy Harvin or Ed Reed!!!!
  21. Zaviar Gooden Pro Day info--couldn't find much but with his speed and agility perhaps he could help us out: http://m.columbiatribune.com/blogs/behind_the_stripes/speed-sets-apart-missouri-s-gooden/article_448e84fc-87a4-11e2-83ad-001a4bcf6878.html http://www.columbiamissourian.com/a/159507/family-helps-missouris-zaviar-gooden-prepare-for-nfl-draft/ http://www.abc17news.com/news.php?id=9233 Jamie Collins has his Pro Day tomorrow...
  22. Here's some more for those who are interested (Scott is now being mentioned as a potential 3rd rd pick): http://tucsoncitizen.com/wildcatreport/2013/03/07/arizona-pro-day-matt-scott-airs-it-out-preps-for-interview-with-eagles/ http://tucsoncitizen.com/wildcatreport/2013/03/07/richrod-matt-scott-as-good-a-thrower-as-ive-coached-or-competed-against/ http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/blog/rob-rang/21826452/pro-days-interest-high-in-arizona-qb-scott-after-pro-day http://www.foxsportsarizona.com/03/07/13/Scott-great-again-at-Arizonas-Pro-Day/landing_azwildcats.html?blockID=875547&feedID=3613
  23. Amen, brother!!! Load up on value. As for drafting an OT, sure it would help but with Glenn, Pears, Hairston and Sanders, I gotta hope we have two solid OTs to put out there. However, is the upgrade at OT going to make more of an impact than a LB or hybrid OLB/DE on Pettine's 3-4 hybrid when all we've got is Sheppard and Bradham (Moats? White?)--I'm not so bright but I think we don't have a better LB corps than most SEC teams! I'm a Jersey guy for crying out loud--Rutgers' two draft eligible LBs Khaseem Greene and Steve Beauharnais might be better than our top two--pretty sad!! As for WR, easy to make a similar case over OT--I just personally think there is no WR worth a top 10--gotta take at least one WR and a TE (depending on how we play out FA-if we sign a TE then take 2 WRs).
