FYI he's on with Gruden now on ESPN2...

The other thing to keep in mind is that Clay is entering the prime of his career. The Bills will get his best years of production and he fits their offense. See his plays on Utube - he is matchup problem for defenses.

1. EJ 2. Hoyer 3. The top QB from the CFL

We'll said... I think a lot of the success of a QB prospect just depends on what type of team they land on and how good the coaches are at developing them and adapting to their strengths. It's the coaches job to put them in situations where they can succeed.

Bills to go in little-talked-about direction at QB?
Andy1 replied to Rubes's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I've come to the conclusion that, aside from the very few can't miss prospects such as Luck or Elway, no one on earth can predict the success or failure of QB prospects. It is the hardest position to play in sports and there seems to be too many variables that affect the success of players. Thus it makes for endless conversation among NFL fans. We just need to keep looking... -
I agree... There was also a play where Brady was between the tackles and intentionally grounded the ball, throwing to the middle of the field where there were no recievers. The commentators mentioned "where was the receiver?" yet no penalty was called. That looked like an obvious penalty to me...

New England Patriots caught deflating game balls
Andy1 replied to FireChan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm not sure that it is very obvious unless you are comparing two footballs side by side or have a highly tuned sense of the grip such as a QB would have. I'm would think that the officials are thinking about everything else on the field but this. -
Patriots Fumble Rates since 2007 rule change
Andy1 replied to somnus00's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Very interesting read….Now we all know why the Patriots so rarely fumble. This analysis should move up from blog level to the national sports shows as a point of discussion. The onion is being peeled and the core is rotten. -
POLL: NE Cheating - What should be done?
Andy1 replied to dtgolder's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
A fine means nothing. The only penalty that they would care about is something that put them at a competitive disadvantage in the future. Multiple, high round draft picks should be taken from them and don't allow their salary cap to rise when it increases for the rest of the league. May their legacy be forever tarnished. -
Does anyone know anything about Bo Levi Mitchell who has done well playing for Calgary in the CFL? His stats look good. I have no idea if that translates to the NFL though. I think Jeff Garcia made it to the NFL through the CFL.

PSA: Goodwin to be featured on E:60 Tuesday night
Andy1 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It was really a great story. I was captivated by the story for a bit before I thought to post. It focused on the relationship between him and his physically disabled sister who has never been able to walk. He's hoping his performance this year can earn him a contract so he can build a home where his sister can move freely in while in her wheelchair. I will be rooting for him all year. -

Comparing EJs 1st 10 Games to Kelly's
Andy1 replied to Dean Cain's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think this is an interesting and somewhat relevant comparison - especially considering Kelly's greater experience. The fact is that none of us know how EJs career will pan out. As an optimist, I'm hoping for the best. He has lots of great qualities for a successful QB. Sometimes, I think people forget that performing as an NFL QB is the most difficult job in all of sports. At this stage, he is still a very young prospect who is learning how to play the position. Patience is what is needed........ -
Gailey seems to be the opposite mindset from Jauron. I remember Jauron's press conferences stating how it is hard to win in the NFL and if you make mistakes you loose. With Jauron's mindset, if you don't play a perfect game you likely loose. I love it that Chan comes along with the mind set of expecting to win. The No Names listen to him and amazingly, with smart coaching, they are winning! Winning breeds confidence with higher expectations and personal accountability. If they keep winning like this, he'll be on the short list for Coach of the Year.

I too love the emphasis on building a dominant defense through tough, aggressive players. This team needs an identity and if this draft is successful, it looks like they will develop into a nasty defensive team. The plan appears to be to first fix the defense and then bring in our future franchise QB. From what I've seen so far, next years QB class looks to have some promising options with more of them playing in college pro style offenses than this years group.

Round 1 (Pick #3): DT Marcell Dareus - University of Alabama
Andy1 replied to SDS's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I have not seen that before. I laughed as I envisioned the dummy being Brady. A Bills fan can dream, can't we? I love this pick even more!!! Thanks for posting this. -
For what its worth, I saw Trent Dilfer on ESPN this evening raving about Cam's pro day work out. He thought what was most impressive was his ability to understand why he was overthrowing receivers and ability to self correct his throwing motion to hit his receivers. Personally, I think Dilfer is one of the smartest football guys in the media and certainly a lot more knowledgeable about QBs than Kiper & McShay. Dilfer felt very strong about Newton's ability to develop to a "high ceiling". I'm not an advocate of taking a QB at 3 but if we get him, I'll back him 100%. What I really want though is a nasty DEFENSE!

The Worst Decade of Drafting In NFL History?
Andy1 replied to BillsPhan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This is the #1 problem with the Bills. They do not know how to evaluate college players. Good drafting is what separates the good teams from the scrubs, like us. It is unbelievable to me how Modrak & his scouts still have their jobs. Hopefully, Chan/Nix can improve upon the past drafts. -
When Felser wrote that column I don't know what he was thinking of with respect to his points 5-7. We have backup QBs on staff. Our wide receivers are serviceable and we have plenty of decent cornerbacks. I'm not sure in what order we need them (given the emergence of Fitz) but QB, RT, DE & LB, LB, LB should be the positions we target.

With the first pick in the 2011 draft the Bills select....
Andy1 replied to DC Grid's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Anyone who thinks Locker is a top pick in the draft hasn't been watching him play this year. He looked very ordinary last night vs Arizona. -
I can recall several times during this long horrible era of Bills football where Ralph bemoaned the lack of talent on this team yet the pattern repeats year after year. Ralph is 100% responsible for the lack of accountability by those who are evaluating and drafting the players that is at the root of this problem. Their draft picks fail at an amazing rate and the talent evaluators remain in their jobs. Part of it may be the "team" approach to drafting they have used in the past. There is no one who is ultimately responsible for drafting a player like Maybin - instead it is "collective failure". Anything Ralph says is meaningless until we see the needed changes in this organization in the scouting/ player evaluation department. The Kelsay 4 yr deal is the latest sign that the front office wisdom hasn't improved yet. I am very cautiously hopeful that over time, Nix & Gailey can fix this mess.

"But the main reason we should want Mallett is because he's a senior. I don't care how big of a prospect it is, I don't want to draft a QB coming out early. " I agree. In addition to stats, experience and other measurable traits, I would like to see the next QB we draft have a burning competitive desire with an absolute hatred of losing and strong leadership qualities. A bonus would be if he "fits" personality wise with the Buffalo community. IMO Trent Edwards lacked in the competitiveness and leadership categories and never really "fit" this team. On the surface, I don't know if Mallettt has these other intangible traits.

My bad - I must have looked at the wrong number in a stats table. I guess him & that guy in NE are the odd ones. On the upside - the UC brewery is just down the road from me & I am also a happy customer!

Players coming out too soon may well be part of the problem of why there are so many QB busts in the NFL. A few more QB failures that I looked up: JP Losman - low college completion % Matt Leinhart - didn't start enough college games Jason Campbell - low Wonderlic score and not enough college starts I'm becoming a believer in the 26-27-60 Rule!
