Tremaine Edmunds hamstring injury (Update - won’t play week 10)
dorquemada replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall
Hard to say really, but when it mattered, the Bills D didn't even slow down the Colts. I can't imagine they'd have done worse with Edmunds in there. In fact, its hard to imagine them doing worse at all, short of simply not taking the field -
I was thinking of the French, assuming the Maginot Line would protect them from a motivated and well led Wermacht "Our Maginot Line is statistically the best Defense in the world!" "We have the largest standing army in Europe!" "We just beat these guys, how hard could it be?"

Lol just imagine BB needing our help. Hmm lets see, what can I do to prepare for the Bills? Geez, if I only had a great running game and DL

Heavy is the Head that Wears the (Paper) Crown

You don't need to be a theologian or psychologist to see a team with no heart. This is a group of guys that sniffed their own farts and enjoyed the smell and assumed that was enough to win games. To your point, i do believe it's possible that the talent simply isn't there. McD isn't a good enough coach to win games against prepared opponents, and the players lack the skill/motivation to play above their station. Oh well, there's always last year -
Serious question; what causes a team to pancake like this?

Most coaches speak in platitudes but you could use McD to train a Markov Chain generator In truth he doesn't seem to be all that upset that the 'super bowl favorites' are swirling the drain. -

He said the usual suspects are vets who signed a contract less than they thought they should get. We've got a few guys that we signed to their second contracts, like Dawkins and Milano, at maybe a little lower than what we thought they would get on the open market, though I have a hard time thinking it's either of them -

Then McD needs to bench some people, call them out publicly, and start to act more like a coach and less like a cheerleader. Billy B must be smiling watching this, if he was capable of smiling anyways -

Given that the Bills are one of the least vaxxed teams, or so we're told, chances are greater that it will work against the Bills not for them. Maybe pinning the team's hopes on guys who wont get with the program wasn't the best idea -

The guys that consistently make mental mistakes need to be benched. The Venn diagram between "team cancer" and "makes lots of mental mistakes" isn't a perfect circle but there's a lot of overlap, imho -
Unless someone 3 states over sneezes, then they're right back on the list. We can argue if it's fair or not but the COVID protocols are meant to punish non-compliance

I said this after the Jax game. A friend of mine who used to work in the Pats org, and probably knows more about football than anyone I know, said that the Bills have a cancer on the team. He doesn't follow them close enough to guess who/what it is, but he said it's as clear as day. It's hard to argue against that, given how they're swirling the drain -
You want to rely on guys who are going to miss games at random? Maybe make it a factor in the draft and free agency. if the rules dont change, investing in non-vaxxed players is a risk, and frankly, not worth it
-
I'd take it a step further and bench them. THey can come in if there's an injury to their replacement. non-vaxxed players arent reliably available, and until the rules change, they're as much a liability as an asset. remember our last franchise QB?
-
I think this is right. I've managed people for decades now, and one fundamental truth is that a tiger can't change it's stripes. If someone is unmotivated, i've learned now that you can either accept an undermotivated employee, or you can get rid of them. You can put people on a PIP but all that does is teach them the bare minimum threshold they have to achieve to keep their jobs. Too many of the Bills appear to be ok with losing. I don't envision that changing - McD had his chance, should probably have cut someone after the Jax game, might have brought some focus on the rest of the dead enders, but at this point it's pretty clear they're playing out the string. Anyway, i'm sure if McD just claps a little harder, and dogballs comes up with a little more gimmicky scheme, maybe they can squeeze out a couple more wins. Not holding my breath though. If McD doesn't send a message to the locker room, then this team & season are lost. I'm not sure what that looks like, maybe bench some starters, i'd probably sit anyone without a vax because they're not dependable anyways.

The Ford Report - Week 11, Colts v. Bills, 11/21/21
dorquemada replied to Freddie's Dead's topic in The Stadium Wall
I'll say this about him - he wasn't the worst player on the field for the Bills yesterday, and does seem to acquitted himself in context of being a backup. "Not the worst OL man yesterday" isn't exactly praise, though credit where credit is due -
The only thing that 50 years of watching football in general, and the Bills specifically, is that outside of a few years of the glory era, i can usually tell by mid 2nd quarter if the Bills are going to be in a game or not. This particular team is very easy to tell. If they let up a long drive early in the game, the fight goes right out of them and almost inevitably will go 3 and out on the next drive, and give up another long drive. At least in the glory era, you knew that JK would make a game of it almost no matter what. Josh is amazing, but he's one man. Nobody else on this team has any fight. What im saying is, this team has made it a lot easier to walk away during a game since they aren't built to play from behind. We'll know pretty quick on Thursday if it's going to go down like yesterday, in which case i can mute the TV and visit with family instead of wasting time on a bunch of effette overpaid losers
-
Yeah I said this in another thread but the Bills clearly believe their own press clipping about how statistically dominant the O & D are. Beating up on terrible teams and losing to average ones is who this team is, and no amount of analytics changes that. This is a soft team, both mentally and physically. Josh is a gifted QB with some skill around him, but an OL that is built for abject failure We'll see how they do next year after Beane drafts a tweener high motor DE in 1st and 2nd rounds, maybe he'll see fit to address the dismal OL but im not holding my breath. Maybe another slow RB. As good as Beane and McD have been for the Bills, they don't seem to be able to adjust to changing realities. Josh hasnt been playing like a top 5 QB in 2 months. Again, living off the fat of a couple big victories against bottom dwelling teams. What he does against peer or near peer competition is how he should be judged, and with that, i think maybe middle of the pack to #10 or so
-
At this point my expectations for them are 2-5 maybe 3-4 so any given Sunday assuming they’ll lose. Like during the drought, it makes for a nice surprise when they do win
-
Yup. The Pats are the very blueprint of a team that overwhelm the Bills in every phase of the game. McD, of course, will not change anything and rely on ‘culture’ to make up for the increasingly yawning talent gap between the Bills and their opponents. Definitely looking forward to McD talking about the guys working hard or whatever vacuous platitudes he’ll use this week.
-
this. While the Bills were building a finesse, effete team, the rest of the conference was focused on building teams that can run and stop the run. The Bills are so delicate and sophisticated that a High School game plan executed by average players leads to the Bills getting completely physically dominated. I wonder if the Colts came into the Bills locker room after and shoved the Bills into their lockers and took their lunch money.
-
we aren’t one of the most talented teams, not by a long shot. Who do we have that are difference makers? Allen? I guess, though he’s a pale shadow of last year. Diggs? Hard to say, daboll is far too smart to use Diggs like he did last year. On D I just don’t see anyone that strikes fear into opposing OCs. We have 10 slightly below to slightly above average DL and some finesse LBs. and let’s stop with “one godawful game” when we’ve dropped 3 of 4, where we were favored in each
-
I don’t see any more than 3 wins for rest of season. Maybe they sneak into WC but what would the point even be? The book is written on how to beat This team. the other issue is that we have players like Brown and Star who apparently are the most critical players on the team who aren’t available. On paper we have a solid roster. On the field we have a sinking team who seem to not really care if they win or lose. Zero fight. Soft and stupid.

To that point, once the Bills are eliminated, we can say that they're not as bad as they look -

We're obviously too thin except on DL, but even there, we have a million guys and none of them are difference makers. Every team gets injuries, we just seem fundamentally incapable of winning unless we have 100% of our starters in
