Not voting equals apathy, which many politicians want. This makes things easier by assuring them they only need to appeal to their base. By not voting you feed this thought process. If votes for moderate, liberal, or conservative Independents rise, politicians will pay more attention, even if it is only lip service. At the very least, it gets some small measure of a message out. Quick side note - Most people I know who grew up in Memphis have never been to Graceland. Of the ones who did, they usually say they took a friend from out of town there. Also, Dead Elvis Week and his birthday see huge amounts of tourists (well for Memphis) come into town from all over the globe.
