The 49ers were done. Then Brock Purdy underthrew a long pass, which bounced off the facemask of a Lions DB and fell into Brandon Aiyuk's hands. It was all over after that.

And they had to win this year because the Packers are on the rise again.

I said this earlier in the year and got a lot of red Xs, but I hate Brock Purdy more than any other player in the NFL. He's a smug SOB. And just like Brady, you are not supposed to get that production from taking a flyer on a late-round pick. Only some teams get that luck. Chiefs with Pacheco, 49ers with Purdy and Pats with Brady. We have to spend draft capital to get a QB.

There are a lot of teams where the HC calls the offensive plays and they mostly have someone with the title OC. A bunch of those guys have gone on to be head coaches. Off the top of my head, this list includes: Mike McDaniel Kevin O'Connell Brian Callahan In fact, before he got the Miami job, Mike McDaniel and I had called the same number of plays in the NFL.

When the Bengals played the Rams, it was a 3 seed against a 4 seed.
