  1. The Lions would have beaten the Ravens if not for the longest FG in NFL history.
  2. I want Seattle to win this just so we get to hear Pittsburgh Dad rant about Geno Smith.
  3. The hostile media effect, originally deemed the hostile media phenomenon and sometimes called hostile media perception, is a perceptual theory of mass communication that refers to the tendency for individuals with a strong preexisting attitude on an issue to perceive media coverage as biased against their side and in favor of their antagonists' point of view.[1] Partisans from opposite sides of an issue will tend to find the same coverage to be biased against them.
  4. It was supposed to be a HB pass to the rookie OT Spencer Brown. But the whole thing just blew up in their faces when Brown slipped.
  5. That's exactly what happened in the AFC Championship Game and its what the Bucks did to the Chiefs in the SB.
  6. They were defending downfield to prevent a big play, so we ran the ball and threw underneath. Its a simple as that.
  7. Josh was supposed to push that into the line, but their D-line got penetration so he improvised.
  8. I know that it doesn't feel like it, but Josh Allen is completing 61% of his passes and is on pace for over 300 yards.
  9. I'm getting real Lou Holts with the Jets vibes from Urban Mayer in Jacksonville. Next step is to get a pep band and write a fight song.
  10. This is Mahomes investing in things to set him up for retirement. He also owns minority shares in the Royals and both the women's and men's soccer teams in KC. Smart players look at guys like Magic Johnson who is making more money in business ventures than he did as a player as the model to follow. Payton Manning also owns a whole bunch of Papa John's franchises and a stake in an Anheuser-Busch distributor in Louisiana.
  11. Complementary football bell cow feature back
  12. Now that I've had a chance to cool off a bit, I agree with all the things mentioned by reasonable posters. What i will add is that this team doesn't quit. Most Bills teams of the 2000's quit after that Allen sack late in the 4th. Also, the play that won the game for the Texans was just dumb luck. Neal had Watson sacked and Milano knocked him back on his feet. I would be as upset as other on here, but I decided about a decade ago that I won't let the actions of other grown men decide my mental state.
  13. I hate all sports teams that play in Dallas, Boston and Philly. Except for the Mavs. I always have a soft spot for them for beating the Heatles. That Eagles/Patriots Superbowl was just brutal for me.
  14. You guys are trying to set a standard that no QB except for Eli Manning has met. No one consistently beats NE year in and year out. Look at what Belichick's defense did to Mahomes in the AFC Championship game last year. Goff looked like he forgot how to play football when faced with Belichick's D. Payton Manning took how many attempts to beat NE in the playoffs? Payton (most likely a first ballot HOFer) was 6-11 in head to head matchups with NE when Brady plays. By your standards, every other QB in the league except for Brady sucks. Well, except for Jake Plumber, who for some strange reason was 3-0 in head to head matchups with Brady. https://www.reddit.com/r/nfl/comments/am59wu/oc_tom_bradys_career_record_by_opposing_starting/
  15. All the talk in Cincinnati this week has been how poor their LB core is in protecting the middle of the field in the passing game. I expect a big game from Beasley and the TEs.
  16. Exactly. The average number of wins during the 16 year drought was not 4 or 5, but 7. So, not good enough to win but not bad enough to draft highly and unfortunately our highest draft picks came during years with less than stellar drafts.
  17. Cowherd was the #1 cheerleader for Darnold in the lead-up to the 2018 draft. He said that Darnold was the only one of the group ready to play right away and that Mayfield is too small and cocky and Josh Allen was too inaccurate to play in the NFL. I don't remember his takes on Rosen, but he definitely had them all behind Darnold. He has a lot of professional capital invested in his being the best QB of that group, and his assessments of the others, especially Mayfield, have to be seen in that light. In fact, all of the sports talkers made hot takes about those QBs and they try to shift the narrative to those takes. Our problem is that none of the daily bloviators were high on Josh Allen. But the great thing is that the players themselves have the power to set the ultimate narrative by playing well. But in order to shut them up his stat line has to be better for a few weeks in a row. Over 300 yards, with at least 2 TDs and no INTs this week and next week would do the trick.
  18. Two points: 1) Power Ranking threads are about the most distilled example of confirmation bias and the hostile media phenomenon that there are in non-political online spaces. In fact, I use these to teach these concepts to students all the time. 2) These are like the first couple of weeks of college basketball rankings in that they are largely still based on preseason rankings. If they keep winning, they will climb.
  19. Watching the game, I kept thinking that Seattle wasn't prepared for Cincinnati to come out and throw the ball all over the place. It was polar opposite to a Marvin Lewis coached team and they also gave little indication that they would be playing this way in preseason. This was very much a team with a new coach with no film catching a team napping in week one. That being said, Cincinnati will be much better than anyone thought. In fact, watching week one leads me to believe that there is only one truly awful team in the NFL this year and we get to play them twice.
  20. That's when Rick Gannon confused Bellamy with John Brown.
