Dave Wannstedt expected to talk to Bills
4BillsintheBurgh replied to FluffHead's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
While this does seem silly, Whaley is a Pitt guy and could have something in mind for him. -
This may be true, but it seems contrary to the thought that Cowher wants an established team with a good qb. Most of those teams have a quality front office already and the owner would not want to blow that up. Seems to me he can't can't have it both ways; either blow it up with your own people or move into a quality organization and be part of the team.

Professional's Opinion on Luck Per ESPN Radio
4BillsintheBurgh replied to High Mark's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The only trade I'd make with them is Kyle Williams and Lee Evans to swap spots; assuming they will still play a 4-3 with the new regime they may go for it. It weakens us defensively, but that's why we drafted Troup and Carrington. Along with Edwards we have our DL and then we need the RT (2nd), an ilb (3rd) who can cover (don't think D Harris does that much), probably a rotational NT and a TE in round 4. Or we could eliminate some of those needs in FA. In 2012 we fill in whatever holes are left and away we go. Why no, I haven't been smoking, thanks for asking! -
If Cam Newton is there at 3
4BillsintheBurgh replied to UCLA Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think the issue will be that he was number 1 at juco because he had to transfer after the stolen laptop incident. Talent ain't everything. -
I was watching a little at lunch time, was that him getting into a 4 point stance at left end? I only saw about 30 minutes and couldn't hear the announcers, but he looked slow off the ball and USF scored a couple times while I was watching. He didn't seem like a difference maker to me, but that game is the only time I've seen him. Maybe I'll look for more on youtube, but count me among the unimpressed for now.

Brohm should start last 2 games
4BillsintheBurgh replied to I hate the Bills !'s topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I agree with no brohm unless injury. Even if the game is lopsided, nothing good can come of Brohm playing. If Brohm does well, you have a controversy all offseason. The coaches see enough of him during practice to know whether or not he is capable of his role on the team. -
My 2 cents P1: None P2: RT, OLB(M3) P3: WILB (who can cover) P4: TE (blocker), RB (big thumper type) P6: DT34, OG P9: All others We need lb's on d, we just spent a 2009 2 and a 3 on nt and DE. I'm not on the moats boat just yet, so double down on olb, at least need wise. I believe the names sam and will refer to strong and weak (side) or run stopper and lighter, not so stout. I think we have enough sam's on the roster. We still need the RT and a TE that can block and catch okay. I think Chan really wants to run the ball given his history, so I put a big rb in there. I also threw in a developmental NT and an OG just in case the practice squad grab bag we have now doesn't work out, even though it looks like it could. We have enough at wr I think, and since Fitz and Brohm were pretty much neck-in-neck in camp they probably see enough in Brohm to pass on a developmental guy. Looks like you got 12 cents instead of 2. Merry Christmas Astro.

Please no 4-3. We still don't have a 4-3 end who can rush the passer. We committed 2 draft picks last year to the 3-4 DL and we're moving forward with it. We need at least 2 lb's to get it working okay, and I'm not sold on Moats long term although he may be a short term solution. I wouldn't be suprised if they move him back inside this offseason, especially if he can learn to cover. I think the reason we have a hybrid is because of Kelsay. He is the key because his liability in the passing game forced the coaches to put coverage responsibilities elsewhere. I say keep drafting team captains to take over the leadership role and eventually he'll be seeing less playing time as we add olb talent. His contract is friendly to being cut when we have sufficient talent on the roster. I'm hoping he's cut or traded after next season. I'd love to see us sign Woodley from the Steelers. I don't know how Pit is going to be able to afford him and Timmons (after 2011) along with all the other money they have committed, and I think they like/need Timmons more than Woodley. Pit drafted an olb in 2010 (2nd rnd, J Worilds) so they are prepared if they can't sign Woodley. They have J Harrison on the other olb position signed til 2014. Probably won't happen for the Bills because of the pricetag, but I can still hope.

We need a te that can block well. -
If Brohm or Brown aren't good enough, then draft a qb after the first round. If they have enough promise, there shouldn't be a need this year. I'd still like to see what Gailey can do with a top level talented guy, but it doesn't have to be soon unless someone falls into their laps.

I want to say the head to head record againt det/cin doesn't matter. A couple years ago we had lost to SF (had the same overall record) but ended up drafting after them because our strength of schedule was higher implying we were a better team. Has that changed?
-
I like the picks too, I just don't want us to reach for need in the first round and it doesn't seem like we did. And I hope Nix sticks with the same plan as he had last year, which seemed to me BPA in the first and BPA at a need position the rest of the way. The only thing I'll say is in this draft scenario I hope we get someone who can really rush the passer at ANY lb spot, preferably at least two spots. Our run defense was pretty bad, although we have the most attempts against but at least we don't have the worst yards per attempt. I don't know where to lay the blame for the run d, dl or lb or both. I lean more toward the lbs because they seem to have miles to go. Nix has invested a 2 and 3 in the DL so far, so I don't see another DE/DT being taken after the first unless he's some type of small school 3-4 NT in the 4th round or later. I did want to point this out, year to date Buf has 5 sacks from their lb's, Pit has 26.5 from theirs. Now if we're going to play a hybrid 3-4/4-3 d or whatever to cover the lack of pass rush talent at lb maybe it can work without getting a top notch lb, but I don't see how. So I think/hope with this draft above we can get one FA lb that will help us rush the passer and/or be able to cover a TE and that player doesn't include Merriman. If Merriman resigns and can play that would be a bonus, and I think we have plenty of room on the roster for him. There's probably a 1% chance of that happening.

I thought Kelsey could have helped more if he span back around to the outside of his blocker instead of going inside of him. He took himself out of the play by going back inside, although I'm guessing taking the shortest route to the ball carrier is probably what he did as a DE. Doesn't work so well in space when you're not that fast. I thought Poz did fine on that play. I guess he could have reacted to run a little quicker, but he maintained his outside leverage and still could have helped if AP just went straight into the line instead of cutting it back. I don't think there's many ilb's that are going to solo tackle AP in that scenario. I agree with you on McKelvin, something's lacking. Don't know if he's afraid of making a mistake or what. I thought Whitner took a pretty bad angle considering where Poz was. And Byrd has had some problems taking bad angles sinces he's been here, I guess from playing mainly cb in school? Some credit has to go to AP, but between McKelvin and Kelsey there was a big enough cutback lane there for him to exploit.

He's a tremendous athlete that makes a lot of plays by freelancing. I don't know if many d-coordinators would allow that in their system. Troy has actually been a little saddled this year, the steelers have been trying to get Timmons into more of the free lance role. With the last couple of games, I think they have given that back to Troy, and rightfully so. Troy P is a fine example of moving up to draft an impact player, and that move being well worth it.
-
And Ben turns one around too. No doubt he's talented - he just looks a little funnier now. You know, Bills fans are so fatalistic - bad things happen to every team. If the team is good enough they overcome. We haven't been good enough to overcome since the early nineties. Hopefully we're starting down that road again.
-
Just a couple. He also has a lot of talented helpers - as Troy makes a play.

Don't be sad lil' hypnotoad. At least our qb isn't trapping drunk girls in a bathroom (that we know of).

My wife said, what happened to Ben, his nose looks worse than usual?
