If we take a DE in the first round, he needs to be a guy that demands double teams in the 5 technique. I think the number three pick is worth spending on that guy unless there is a franchise qb on the board. I'm assuming the reason that you guys have Jordan more scheme diverse than the other 4-3DT/3-4DE's is that he will be better in space, but I haven't seen any tape on him. With Jordan I only fear the Ngata syndrome where you don't take the bpa because he doesn't fit as well in your scheme. I think maybe Wanny may have some say on this, probably suggesting we will be able to work with the 4-3DT and to take the bpa instead of the scheme guy. If Jordan is flat out better, that's fine, but we can't miss on a DE in the first round, he needs to be a starter day 1.

I thought the chart was interesting and really underscores the Bills drafting problems in all rounds of the draft. We just do not get enough players (especially lineman) from the draft. I really like what the Bills have done in the past couple of years and I hope they can have another draft with a couple linemen in the first three rounds.

Only after I call you up and act like an idiot on the phone. Then you're more than welcome too. -
I had the same issue a while ago, and stumbled upon this in another forum. Unfortunately it's not great, but it beats wanting to punch the screen when you spend a ton of time and it still looks like poo.

Thanks for clarifying this Astro, I appreciate the work you put in to provide info to us. I haven't played around with your site too much yet, still a little early for me. One small thing for displaying cut and pastes that you could find helpful. Put the word "code" in between brackets ([]) before your cut and paste and then a closing one also "/code" also in brackets to get everything to line up nicely. If you've ever noticed when you reply to someone their text is started with a "quote" in brackets and the "/quote" finishes it. Same thought here, just swap the word quote with code. Just trying to save your dash key a little exercise. Here is an example that I aligned with spaces. Edit: If you reply to this, you will see the syntax. I was wondering something about the big board rankings. If I plug our postions into the value and say in the case of Peterson who I'm guessing we would use as a cb because we have Byrd, wouldn't that knock him down 10 spots (the P2 diff as of 2/27/2011 from FS to cb)? So then our bpa in the first would be (1) Green, (2) Cam Jordan, (3) Von Miller and (4) Julio Jones. Is that how the p2 diff works?

Why is it about productivity? Heck, it's not even about the knowledge level of the guy on the phone. In this case it seems like a courtesy call. Not to speak for him, but it's about being heard I think. Heck, I bet Albany would have been good with a "Hey, I don't know, but you can check out verizon.com for more detailed info", not just the next line on the script. -

I guess I'll take that. Must be Albany's fault, right? Or someone else's? it's impossible for the call center guy to take ownership of what he's doing and actually try and answer the questions? God forbid he comes back with "Sir, if you give me a second I can look that up for you" or something else remotely helpful to at least signal he is actually listening? I know, he only makes $3 an hour, he's not given this, he's not given that. It's not his fault, he's only doing what he's told. Whatever. Have fun in the call center, and take what you get for the effort you give. -
I think the need at qb is a backup. That's why I think they either take one at #3 or they don't take one at all. I agree that if Nix thinks there is a franchise qb available you have to take him. The plan will be not to be drafting that high again, and a franchise qb will help us the most long term. And the concern is long term, not next year. There are run stoppers available after the 1st round believe it or not.

Robert Quinn DE UNC, #1 overall pick
4BillsintheBurgh replied to balln's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I would love to see him and Merriman (healthy) on the field together next year. The run d would be impressive I think. The only concern at that point is if we can get an ilb or two that can cover, assuming these two may have some issues. The vid is impressive but I only saw 2 or 3 games there, most of it against uva. #67 took a beating in film review, that's for sure. The only thing with Quinn is the mental side, will he handle the money etc. If he can, I think he's a nice pick at 3 and looks like someone who can make some plays. -
I don't think Poz is great at coverage and I think we really need a wilb (at least as I understand the position) to have that skill. I would say in round 2 if there is an ilb that can cover, even if he is not the most physical that fill a need. I'm beginning to wonder if Poz is not in our plans, maybe Edwards/Chan consider him a 4-3 middle backer and not a fit for the 3-4. Considering they had Moats at ilb before needing him outside where he did well, and now they're moving Batten inside it seems like they really don't like the vets on the roster. I still think we need a thumper in there, but I'm guessing coverage skills are more difficult to find so we can get that ilb a little later.

I've been there a few times over my years in Pitt, it seems to be a fine collection of plants. I don't have anything to compare it against though. I'll take JR's word for it. -

Pretty sure it's Noll.

Seems to me the off field stuff plays the largest role. How motivated is the kid when no ones watching? What will he do when a bucket of NFL money is delivered to his door? Are there any other personal factors that that need to be taken into account? These off the field questions cannot be seen in the game film. I believe Buddy has seen enough players succeed and fail to guide our scouts on what is important and what is not. The next two years will clarify how much Buddy knows. I like our last two drafts much more than the 3 or 4 before them.

"Wannstedt Coached 'Em, and Against 'Em"
4BillsintheBurgh replied to Astrobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I for one would be suprised. Word around here (pit) is he wasn't the best worker and I thought his play this year showed it. The main problem for him was Sunseri was not accurate, but Baldwin did seem to lose focus and probably doesn't have a whole lot of quality film this year to show for it. I assume if he has a good combine someone would jump on the potential, but I think it would be tough to justify taking him at #34. I like J Pinkston instead, it will be interesting if he's there @34 what they do. Actually, I think 34 is going to be the most interesting pick for us, beginning of the second day, with us having so many needs it may be our best chance to trade down. I don't know where Romeus is going to end up, but pre-season he was getting looked at in the middle of the first. I don't know if he will work on our defense, but Dave should understand his back problems and we could pick him up if the value is there. Dion Lewis is a decent back but there were rumors regarding a drinking problem that got him into trouble early this year. Seems like he turned it around later in the year, but I don't know if Wanny would spend a pick on him. Maybe udfa. -
predictions for the bowl?
4BillsintheBurgh replied to tennesseeboy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Just so you know, Scott plays LT for them, Flozell RT. They will only have one "planned" starter from training camp on the oline in there on Sunday. Makes you think how important those positions are, doesn't it? I'm hoping the Pack wins because I don't want to hear about a Steelers victory. I also think Troy P is hurt worse than they let on, he hasn't been the same since the Cin game. 42-31 Pack. -

4BillsintheBurgh replied to Pilsner's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
From what Buddy has been saying this will not be the case. I think he needs to ink guys like Whitner, Florence and Poz at a reasonable rate, not have to overpay our own like we did for Evans and J. Reed. That will mean the players believe the Bills are serious about winning. Merriman signing is a big step, hopefully the rest will fall in too. -
What's the story with C Jordan? Seems like he could play DE for us, is he rising recently because we haven't talked much about him. I thought I saw one mock with him going to the Pats* @ 17 I think?
-
Maybe - maybe not. I don't know the circumstances of his suspension or if he has any history, so I'll let OBD take care of that. If he's worked hard in the weight room and/or training during his suspension and puts up good numbers at the combine or his pro day, he could get himself drafted higher. I know what you're saying that he is a risk, one that Buddy seems averse to, that's why I would like it to work out in our favor because I believe we could use a dynamic player at OLB with this 3-4. For example, I would like to get Kelsay off the field with a first round pick rather than getting Edwards or Carrington at DE off the field with that pick.
-
I guess I didn't see as much of Troup down the stretch as I though I would. Maybe I missed something, but it seemd he got less PT as the season went on. Maybe he'll hit the ground running in the off season, but it looked ot me like Chan/Edwards took his reps down as the season went on. I didn't see that as a good sign. Maybe a rotational guy will get picked up while Troup matures, and I agree FA is a better place to get that player, but I don't think we'll be getting the top player available at any position this off season.
-
I would love it if quinn is the guy as OBD ranks them. Move Moats back inside or outside if Merriman can't go. I also like the idea of a true NT getting selected, because we can then move KW to DE and we have a quality DL with depth, don't know if we need a DE later. Throw in a RT in round 3 and we're on our way.

AJ Green is available when the Bills Pick....
4BillsintheBurgh replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think if there is a rookie salary cap the chart would have to change, probably making the top picks more valuable because of the proposed lack of guaranteed money. I was reading somewhere that because so many kids came out last year, this draft class is not too deep. If we move down, hopefully the compensation will mostly be in 2012 picks because it seems like they would be better value.
