  1. Considering the Pitt-PSU ties, maybe waterboy? Or designated stadium cleaner?
  2. Here are the 5 players 1: Cam Newton QB Carolina 2: Blaine Gabbert QB Arizona 3: Von Miller LB Buffalo 4: Gabe Carimi OT KC 5: Kyle Rudolph TE Cleveland
  3. I guess your nickname must be "the closer"
  4. Maybin was drafted as a 4-3 DE, regardless of your opinion about his size. I would submit that one thing he has proven he isn't is an olb, where all the tbd gm's pigeon hole him because of his size.
  5. Forget it, he's rolling.
  6. I get the sarcasm, but I also see the point that the reasoning behind not taking a player like Tebow last year was that we needed impact players not projects. So there's a fail there with the 2010 class because there wasn't much impact. Not really what any fan was looking for. I think they took some good players, but those players did not live up to the expectations that were implied by Buddy/Chan during the preseason. I'm hoping for more this year, although I am less concerned about the position selected than most on this board. We need more talent on this roster, period. That means draft picks need to make the roster and play a large role. The second year players need to make strides also if we are going to get this thing turned around. My fingers are crossed.
  7. I think OBD looked at spiller as the same type of player as Jamaal charles and it seems everyone at obd was convinced he was a no brainer. I guess it's difficult to fathom, but not every player starts off great. Since I've been in pittsburgh I'm innundated (sp) with their picks, but many have started slowly. Troy P was being talked about as not worth the pick after his first year; Timmons (1st round) didn't play while Woodley (2nd) started from the beginning; Ziggy Hood didn't play much in his first year either, and hasn't played much until Aaron Smith got hurt. Point being you take the biggest difference maker you can. I'm not saying it will always work out, but I don't think it was a reach to take Spiller at that spot. Guys taken by Levy/DJ in the first round were all driven by need, Nix makes a statement with Spiller that he's taking the bpa as they see it because he certainly wasn't a need. In the past that could have meant Nix would have considered Ngata even though he wasn't a Tampa 2 DT because maybe they thought he was the best player available. With Levy/DJ if a player didn't match the need he wasn't considered. So there is hope a DE could get taken at #3 even though Nix has brought a couple in already, because he isn't afraid to overdraft a position. So you've got that going for you. For me, I'm looking at a qb or Miller, with a dark horse of peterson or green. I just don't see the value of a 5 technique at number 3, even if that player can also play the nose. We can get run stoppers later in this draft.
  8. Yep - how right you are. Just look at the drafts since Nix is back - 2009 3 linemen, 1st, 1st, 2nd 3 DB 2nd, 6th, 7th 2010 4 linemen, 2nd, 3rd, 5th, 7th 0 DB Those bastards!
  9. Fans should really be happy that spiller was taken last year - it shows that with the first round pick Nix and company will take who they consider is the most talented player. So we have a chance to take anyone in the first round, even if that player is not a need. As far as I am concerned, that is how you get talent on the team. Been watching Pit take safeties, rbs, wrs for years - the important thing is the players they take can play. I think Marv's problem was that he trusted the rest of the front office to do their jobs without much guidance - and that didn't work out so well.
  10. Romeus was a mid to late first round talent coming into the 2010 season and then had back surgery early in the year. He was scheduled to come back later in the season, but I don't think he ever really got back on the field. Dave W should have very good knowledge of the injury situation and his abilities so should be able to make the call on drafting him. I'm sure there's more info out there, I'm pulling this off the top of my head and my head is pretty old. I always saw him as a 4-3 end, for one I didn't see him in coverage very much and I didn't think he played fast enough to be in space. But if he is cleared medically, the kid has a lot of talent and is a good value pick here.
  11. It is a possibility with all the defensive talent going in the first round that someone will be left at that spot who is a quality first round talent. I am assuming that this will be our most likely position for a trade down, and I hope we can get good value from another team for the pick.
  12. Run stopping ILB Pass defending ILB Pass rushing OLB Primarily pass catching TE, better be able to block (assuming S Nelson is out and Chandler is the blocking TE) Backup QB 5 technique DE CB Short yardage thumper RB #1 WR - I don't think Evans is up for the entire route tree
  13. Peterson Miller Green
  14. Umm, don't think the play was run 95% of the time in the game. I'm assuming that it was run specifically in the 3-wide, TE, single back set that was mentioned. I would think the qb reads the safety and has a run/pass option. Since the Bills did not have enough confidence in their secondary to bring a safety up, KC took what they were given.
  15. 5 technique ends like Jordan are not taken high historically, I think I remember hearing something that Tyson Jackson was the first one taken in the top ten in the last 10 years or so. I don't think the positional value is there in the 3-4, it would be sort of like picking a rb that high. Not that Jordan wouldn't work out, I just think the perception is the dropoff from #1 to #10 3-4 DE is not as great as the dropoff from #1 to #10 qb, lt, wr, cb, etc.
  16. Any short, stout, small school ilb's out there?
  17. I would suggest the commitment to sports is as business like as the commitment to the rest of the students. It's all a business, and with the cost of college, every student has to get a decent job just to pay for it, or else they'll be living in their parents basement and riding a bike to work. The only thing the education does for you now is get you a better job.
  18. They should also include some classes on finance.
  19. If we want, the better opportunity to go down may be at 34. Someone may covet a "first round talent" there.
  20. The ignore poster functionality can make a whole thread look less ignorant.
  21. I like B the best becaus eit would help the run d the most. I could really get into 2 lbs at the top of the draft; I would love to have a Timmons/Woodley draft like the Steelers did a couple years ago. The only one I don't like is Ponder, but other than that it looks good to me.
  22. Well, that was a lot to digest. I will just say a couple things: I don't believe Gailey will have any problem developing a qb. Kordell was basically a rookie when Gailey was working with him in Pittsburgh, drafted in 95 and Gailey there in 96-97. Chan was able to have Kordell exceed the talent he had. I am not longing for the next Jim Kelly. I realize that in order to get to Super Bowl this team needs a qb who is better than Fitz. In comments OBD always mentions with regards to him is getting us to the playoffs, not about the Super Bowl. I am saying IF there is a franchise qb at #3, how can you not take him? Really? What has any of those qb's listed done when not under Chan? I don't know much about the chan/bulger time, but the rest of them all had some of their best years under chan. I don't see how you don't think chan could take a rookie qb and allow him to excel.
  23. We need a backup qb at this point. Brohm seems to be out and I'm assuming Brown will not be ready for that role if there are games in 2011. Then there's the question of the free agency period. I think there has to be some chance for them to a vet at some point after the draft, but can they count on getting a guy they want? So if Brown is not the developmental guy then okay, go ahead and pick a later round qb. But if there is a franchise qb there at #3 we should take him because he should be able to claim the backup role for the next year or two. I think Chan will have some patience with a qb as long as he has the correct mental makeup. I think this past years actions have proven that - they gave Trent a chance and when they saw he was not up to the task despite the physical skills they kicked him to the curb. The other positions take a back seat to picking up a franchise qb. Big money will be paid to the player at #3 anyway unless the rookie pay scale is implemented for this draft. Buddy/Chan/Ralph have repeated said that we are building for the long term, not next year. This means picking the best long term player, and I can't think of a better position to have a top player at than qb, can you? We need talent on this team, that's what a pick like spiller is all about - getting talent on the roster for the long term. With the rest of the picks they will address the needs of the team, just like they did last year. I'm not saying it's right or wrong, I just think that's what they're going to do. I will say I wholeheartedly agree that is in the best long term interests for the Bills. They just need to pick the correct players more frequently than most of the rest of the teams which is where the problem has been in the past. They've added 5 DL/OL in the past 2 drafts and I would be suprised if we don't get another 2 in rounds 2-4.
