I am getting to be of the mind that we need the run stopping NT first. Like against the Jets, if we can't get a team in third and long, we won't need a pass rushing olb.

Positional Needs for DraftTek
4BillsintheBurgh replied to Astrobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It's tough at this point Astro, especially not knowing who is going to get signed for 2012. According to rotoworld, pears and bell are ufa's. It would not suprise me if they did not resign bell and that decision will play a big factor in the draft of course. Assuming they sign every starter they have due, I think the needs are: P1, M3 - OLB need the pass rusher and another guy that does well in coverage; both need to play the run well P2 - NT Still need help with the run d, get a space eater P2 - WRF We need a guy that can stay healthy and help Stevie P4 - Cb Get someone to groom I still think they could grab a big back, a speedy wr, maybe a fs. I don't think a de is needed because if they can get a guy who anchors the middle I think it will be enough to help the de's we already have. I think for qb they'll bump along with Fitz and FA's for the next couple of years. It looks like one more shot at fixing the D this year then on to the O. I was hoping they were going to be playing the run better than they have this year, but that hasn't happened. Will you guys ever do a round one where there is a list of positions the team won't pick? It would be just for round 1, because when I look at the last couple drafts it seems Nix has gone with more bpa in the first and then more need in rounds 2,3,4. -
I think it's not as much luck as many think - there seems to be a concerted effort on our dline's part to get their hands (and heads) up when the qb is throwing the ball.

Can I just say one thing at this point?

Expect the Bills to draft 2 DB's next year

Searcy really did go up and get that ball, Wilson was right there but didn't make the play on the ball as well as Searcy did. Hopefully Searcy is learning the defense and he'll become a keeper. -
Why is Michael Irvin still employed in television?

I'd have to include second year in the defense as a helper too, even though there was no offseason. Wanny may help the game planning a little bit, but without the offseason I think he won't have the effect he could have.

I think they'll run against 8 in the box to see if we can stop them. I didn't watch all their games last year, but you don't get to be the #1 rushing offense by not running against 8 in the box. And with us being so poor last year I'm sure KC is going to make us prove we can stop the run. If we can't they'll keep it going until we do, especially with Cassel having sore ribs. I'm assuming with our front 7 being improved we will be able to slow them down some and give our offense some better field position to work with. Hopefully we'll beat them by a score or two if we can hold onto the ball.
-
I disagree. I think KC will try to exploit the Bills run defense first until we stop them. I don't think there's any need to overthink it for them. If we stop the run then we'll see.

Are we suddently strong at LB???
4BillsintheBurgh replied to hondo in seattle's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think I will know we're strong at lb when we aren't playing a hybrid defense and Kelsay is not on the roster. I think we are one lb away, someone in the mold of Von Miller who can play olb and cover the TE. -
Is this a fair question for new registrants?

I was going to say what state does the team play it's home games in - but then I thought about Toronto. -
So that's an over??

A theory on Chan Gailey
4BillsintheBurgh replied to Kelly the Dog's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Agree. The funny (not haha) thing is that Fred has seen so much of the come and go. I would also say you don't give FJ the chance to be a leader if the rest of the team doesn't know if the coaching staff is committed to him or not. 1a and 1b is bs too. CJ needs to take the belt away, not be given the title. Maybe there's something going on behind the scenes, but if Chan and Buddy are going to talk about production being the measuring stick, they better use it all the time with all players. Or yes, he will lose the locker room and they will not play as hard for him. -

What's the deal with shawn nelson

It's a tough game for tough people. In other words - buh-bye. -
Gailey runs the risk of losing the locker room if he continues. Players understand that they can be replaced at any time, but if they are not a weak link (they know who is producing and who is not) and are getting pulled or jerked around that does not help morale. While they get paid a lot of money, they are also human beings. If you expect leaders on your team, you need to treat them that way and let them take it to the next level. Not knock them down a peg whenever. I don't see why FJ didn't start and get the first series in and then CJ could have played into the third quarter to get plenty of touches. If CJ averages 8+ ypc and by all accounts plays well there is no doubt who should start. By fiddlin' around like this Chan alienates players. I wonder if something similar happened in Dallas, I thought I remember reading Aikman was upset about something. Maybe FJ isn't his type of player. Maybe the front office/owner is involved. Seems kind of odd to me.

Did I miss something in the article? It is about the practice field not the stadium field, right?
-
If Fred is outperforming him, it will matter to Fred a lot. It's a matter of pride and team leadership, even if Fred can put on a good face for the media. Doesn't seem like CJ is pass blocking well enough yet anyway, and until he does his touches will be limited. I think Chan wanted to see where his team was against Denver and it doesn't look good. Hopefully it will be enough of an embarrassment in the locker room to get them motivated. From the outside it looks like it brought some focus, but the results will be judged on Saturday.
-
I hope they play him later in the games to hopefully get some time against lower competition. He needs to see the field as much as possible if he's going to have a chance to get it going early this season.
-
Denver has some injuries on the DL, I'd like to see the first team o run the ball down their throats with a 4.5+ yard average.

After seeing him playing the Steelers for the years he was in Cin, he always struck me as a speedy, talented receiver who was a Bungle. It's just my opinion but it seemed there were multiple times when he helped Cin implode while they were trying to beat the Pitts. Not that it happens all the time, but just like that drop last year there just seems like a mental issue with him that crops up every once in a while. Maybe he doesn't put the time in at practice, don't know for sure.
