  1. What Chan does well is assess the strengths of a player and put them in situations to maximize their talents. He did this with Kordell, he allowed Kordell to play to his own strengths, run the ball when required etc. I also thought at the time he had simplified the offense to the point where Yancey Thigpen was the primary read and if it wasn't there progress to check down or start running. When Thigpen got hurt productivity went down. It didn't help that the other receivers were dropping balls either. Over time Kordell did not improve his accuracy or his decision making and the Steelers let him go. I think it is a good sign when qb's under a coach have career years, it says the coach can bring out the best in a player. I think Chan has that track record, and I look forward to what he can do with VY. I think OBD are probably looking at VY as a poor man's Cam Newton; if they can make him into something in a year great, if not they move on. That's another nice feature of our good ol' boys north; if you can't play you're not going to hang around.

  3. This draft, more than any in my recent memory, will test our coaching staff. Most of these guys seem to have potential written all over them, especially Glenn and Graham.
  4. Nice. I hope he wore his helmet, that doesn't look easy to stop. I'm guessing you prefer to fly???
  5. 1: Ryan Tannehill QB - Miami 2: Michael Floyd WR - Cle 3: Courtney Upshaw OLB - SD 4: David DeCastro G - Cin 5: Luke Kuechly LB - Det
  6. Link? Cause then I'll know it's true. And Peter Pan proves NOTHING! NOTHING I say!
  7. I think at this point the bills have put Carrington at dt. Seems like they don't think Carrington is quick enough to play DE. Not suprising since they played Johnson more at olb last year instead of AC.
  8. There were insiders who thought Jason Pierre-Paul would be a bust too. It's been proven that "insiders" don't have the best track record either. Plus, there is probably more agenda in letting these comments go out than anything else. Maybe the Pats* would like a shot at him?
  9. This. The pass rush should cause more mistakes by their qb's and lead to wins. Greater depth this year should cause less of a drop off when people do get hurt.
  10. The only thing I'd mention is the second tackle may be 6th or later. I don't know if you have the room on the roster for him so he may need to be on the practice squad. A fourth showing promise may get poached, especially later in the season. I'd rather use those higher draft slots for depth/competition elsewhere on the roster (esp the 4th's) and use rounds 6, 7 and udfa to pick someone up to develop at OT. We've been able to do that pretty successfully over the last few years, we should try it again.
  11. Sure, they're thories but there has to be some basis on team needs because we don't know draft boards etc. of other teams. The one thing we can look at is our needs compared to those around us. Another trade down scenario could be that the best pass rusher (on someone's board) in the draft falls to us and we don't have the same grade on him but someone wants to get him before Seattle. Then it'd be a question of the parameters of the trade being acceptable to Buddy.
  12. I wouldn't be suprised if we see some movement this year. With the change in FA goals and Buddy saying we are close to the playoffs this year, we may see a change in draft strategy as well. That said, if Cinci feels the need to come up to 10 to get Richardson it would be a great situation. If we can get the 17 and 21 from them and maybe give up our third it would be nice. That would allow us to get a lb and wr of prety good caliber and find a cb or ot in the second. I realize the draft value chart works out to be more of a 2nd from us, but I don't think it has been updated for the new rookie salaries and that make the top picks more valuable.
  13. Considering they were using Johnson as an olb, I have to think they like him enough to keep him around. I also see one of heard or troup possibly making it but not both. I'm going to say neither one moves well enough to play dt in a 4-3. Maybe Edwards will have a say in whether he will stick around (may not want to play in the 4-3), but I think the best caliber/most accomplished players would be: DT Dareus, Williams, Edwards, Johnson DE Mark Anderson, Chris Kelsay, Shawne Merriman, Mario Williams, Alex Carrington The only one I think might have troubles is Carrington. He needs to step it up to stay, or I guess if Merriman goes down he'll be safe. I think Kelsay stays because we need another end to set the edge in the run game, but if Anderson can do it Kelsay could be gone. Sure they love him, but one of the main reasons is his locker room presence. We have other guys that can take the locker room thing over, so if one of the younger guys and/or a draft pick impresses he could get bumped. I don't think any moves will be based on the salary cap. I hope we're at the point now where we'll keep the players that are the most talented regardless of cap number or draft position for that matter. That's the way you compete through injuries in order to get to the playoffs.
  14. You can still get off the ball and read and react. He just looked like he wasn't paying much attention, and it wasn't just the first few snaps. I didn't realize those were 2010 clips, although it should have clicked when I saw Newton in there. I think getting off the ball is more mental than anything else, I used to know track guys that would drop smaller and smaller objects on the ground in order to tune their bodies and senses to get going as quickly as possible. I'm not saying he's slow, once he gets going he's a load. If we pick him I hope he can diagnose and move a little quicker, because he won't he as much time at the nfl level. I will say that he looks better in 2011, and he made a lot of nice plays in the auburn game. I still say he looks better as a dt than on the outside.
  15. Looks slow getting off the snap to me. Also looks like he did a lot of good from the dt spot. Once he gets going he really delivers a shot though.
  16. Seems like he will be able to set the edge, a complaint I heard a lot from OBD during the season, especially after Merriman went out. I hope we can find an olb that can cover te's later in the draft.
  17. I remember reading somewhere (bb.com?) that the order won't be determined until after the super bowl.
  18. Chan hasn't had many draft picks to work with, and they may decide to try and see what improvement Wanny can bring without going all d in this draft. So don't get all in a bunch if they decide to go offense in the first couple rounds, especially if a big (for his position) fast guy on defense isn't there.
  19. Just remember these are goals - they also had the goal to win the super bowl this year.
  20. My issue with what you said remains your misrepresentation of the information you're trying to use to prove a point and you didn't clarify when questioned. As far as I'm concerned the only issue I have with Peters is he wasn't professional enough to stay in great shape when he came back. Look at what Walter jones had to do. What peters did was to play the game by the rules, he didn't quit on his team any more than the bills front office quit on him. I think what Stevie has done to the team is worse than what Peters did. I think the team understood that he was making josh reed money and he needed to do what he did. As far as the current oline goes and if they're doing things like the steelers, you will not have the same oline next year because they have not even spoken to bell. That tells me he is not coming back and that oline was not the same without him. The irritating thing about the whole situation is if the bills had been able to recognize the talent, if they had paid him when he asked we would have our LT now and for less than what he is making in philly. But we failed, and I really think it is mainly due to the turnover at obd. I wish fans could realize when you change the front office they will bring in their guys and not value the guys who are already here. Take Jasper for example. Buddy seems to like him, but if takes him 3 years to get on the field and in that time the majority of folks are gone from the front office I think they would be more likely to under value him. Especially if there is no quality football people there at the time, like what happened to Peters. I remember hearing ralph "learned" he needs to have football people in the front office. I thought it was unfortunate it took so much time for him to learn that. I guess it's the jock sniffers vs the depends sniffers around here, huh? I happen to think ralph wants to win more than most of us think, but I also think he won't take chances with his money especially at this point in his life. Hopefully ralph will stick to his word and give Nix the required time to put some real talent on the field through the draft before just flushing him.
  21. If they sign him, I think the injuries will affect the guaranteed money. I hope they can sign him to decent money but I think if they do it puts them in a bind because you have pears and hairston who are better suited for rt and that leaves you very little room to groom another lt, which is important because bell has been injury prone. So you look at trying to develop another late round/udfa prospect which takes time and if you flush the coaching staff in that timespan they may not be committed to the developmental player and let them walk. I think it's been a factor with bell and peters. In the end I think they let him walk and draft another in the 3-4-5 rounds this year for development while riding it out with Hairston and a full offseason of his development.
  22. You have it correct Gary. The NFL doesn't "rank" anything - they collect the data and present it. So in short that link shows the Bills have given up the lowest number of sacks this year. It is foolish to rank anything based soley on the numbers anyway, considering it is a team game and each of the three phases influence each other. I can only think that PTR is ignorant to that or flat out lying. You would have to go to a site like pro football focus to find rankings that go beyond the actual numbers.
