How many of you manly men does this describe?
4BillsintheBurgh replied to BuffaloBill's topic in Off the Wall Archives
"The team recorded and analysed the voices of 23 native Californians aged between 18 and 22." Wow, that's quite a sample set. Sounds like someone interviewed a class at the school. -

I'd like to see what one of the big wr's on our practice squad can do, assuming they are ready to try. -
Week in the life of a coach
4BillsintheBurgh replied to NoSaint's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You don't think washing dishes is the same stress as leading 53 men plus a staff of what, another 20+ against a counterpart with your job on the line in a sport that is a multi billion dollar conglomerate every week? Shocking. -
EJ Manuel aiming his passes?
4BillsintheBurgh replied to BillsFanFromCincy2012's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That was one thing Colin did well. -
He also didn't make a block on Timmons (I think) that lead to a sack. But I think it's a reflection on the coaching staff if CJ doesn't look good. You HAVE to find a way to get him into space if you're Hackett. You need his big plays to ease the pressure. I would love to see him split out like Thurman did, but maybe he can't handle running routes since Chan didn't do a whole lot of it either.

EJ Manuel aiming his passes?
4BillsintheBurgh replied to BillsFanFromCincy2012's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If I remember correctly the accuracy issues were attributed to Fitz's footwork, with special attention paid to the throws on the left side of the field. Fitz had an entire offseason and good command of the playbook so I think he spent a good deal of time working on that problem but was not able to solve it. I think EJ also has some mental issues when the pocket is breaking down that leads to technique breakdowns and I think that's a little different than just plain footwork issues. I think EJ looks a lot like he did at FSU. Someone posted a video in another thread of his highlights and I see the same kind of throws this year. I hope he gets better but I think it's going to be a minimum of next year before he starts to improve. With rookie qb's it usually goes something like first year, dumbed down playbook and some success; second year, much more playbook but limited success because of complexity "sophomore jinx"; third year, good grip on playbook and some success. It will be tough for a qb like EJ to make it on this team because with the injuries he seems behind on that timeline already and I think it will take him the full three years to get up to speed. Not what fans want to hear, but we knew that when we were able to trade down and still take him, right? I hope the coaching staff (probably after we are mathmatically eliminated from the playoffs) lets him grip it and rip it to try and accelerate his learning curve to make up for the injuries. I agree with the OP in that he has had it drilled into his head "don't make a mistake" and "don't take a hit running the ball" but he has to play with a little more abandon if he is going to get back on track. At least he is a good listener. -
EJ Manuel aiming his passes?

I hope they are readily correctable, because messing with mechanics at this level may not go well. I didn't think it helped Fitz last year, that's for sure. Even though we had a qb coach and Fitz seemed interested in improving the change wasn't there, in fact I think he regressed. And there's no way the fans can tolerate someone learning on the job, we have to win now. -
I still believe in EJ Manuel

I was at the game and from my seats I had the opportunity to see the wind in action. The first quarter throw to Stevie that was either a curl or in route started out right at him and moved to the right enough to where Stevie dove/streched just to get a piece of it. The bad news is it will be windy in Buffalo and he needs to be able to make that throw. I am concerned about EJ as well, because I am not sure how much you can learn to react under pressure which is the biggest issue I see with EJ. The footwork and technique breaks down and that seems to be something a qb cannot learn to overcome. I'm hopeful, but I agree that the rest of this year is his audition and he needs to make strides. -
I would love to see Mike Adams on the field Sunday.

I got into the stadium with a $20 bill courtesy of a friend of a friend, standing room only. I really enjoyed yelling "put in Bubby" when it was apparent Neil O'Donnell was not going to get it done.

Most disappointing losses in last 14 years
4BillsintheBurgh replied to Pitta's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I hope none of you guys are coaching the Bills. Let's move past the failures of the past and forward to a brighter future. -
I'm all for taking a TE in the first round the year after we make the playoffs. Until then we have bigger needs to address. Mack would be nice but I hope a top rated DL is available that will finally put our run defense well into the top half of the league.

It's not the first time Tomlin has threatened his team this year. Unfortunately it rings a little hollow because they don't have the depth. If Ike Taylor doesn't play they're not going to be bringing much on either side of the ball. Art Rooney the second declared a couple of years ago that they needed to get back to "Steelers " football, running the ball and playing defense. They got rid of Arians and went to Haley. The drafts under Tomlin have been uninspiring other than Timmons/Woodley who were in the bridge draft after Cowher. It's not like they haven't drafted in the trenches, they just haven't had big successes between health problems and lack luster play to replenish their front line players and they are also not hitting many in the later rounds. Their OT's are especially bad and I think we're going to abuse them. Maybe I'm a little jaded because I have lived here for a long time and I'm tired of hearing about the Steelers from their "fans", but I think we're going to take them behind the woodshed and give them a whooping. We are more physical on the lines and I hope we cram it down their throats and Kiko has a nice game. I'm not going to be surprised if we knock Ben out of the game. I'll be as happy as I was when I saw Frank Reich beat them in person at the 92 wildcard game.

Trade Matt Flynn!

Why stop there, how about Manuel? We can always get another QB in the 2014 draft and Manuel should fetch a first rounder even! /sarcasm -

He cannot beat one on one blocks and make tackles, especially tackles for loss. Doesn't matter where you line up, if you can't do that you're not going to be good. He was the number 3 pick in the draft and has not played up to that pedigree. He has some more time, but that is quickly running out. I think he's been Buddy's worst pick given the draft position and his production. It's a shame because if he could play this defense would be outstanding with all the other talent that's been added. -

There are a lot of excuses, not a lot of production. He was brought in to help the run d, he has not, at all. -

Donte Whitner and Marshawn Lynch are better players/draft picks than Marcell Dareus. -
I would have liked to see the offense get a first down or two from where they got the ball, giving us a little more breathing room. There was a breakdown in coverage, but even if that had been fair caught the ball would have ended up around the 50 yard line. They won the battle of field position in overtime and we paid for it with a loss.

With Stevie out, it seemed to me Hogan got most of the slot work in the 3 wide set and Graham/Woods handled the 2 wide sets. I think we would see more of Easley if Graham or Woods went down, I don't think he's much of a slot guy and more of an outside guy. I think/hope we will see more of Goodwin instead of Hogan in the 3 wide sets if Stevie is out, assuming Goodwin is healthy. I assume Goodwin wasn't ready this week just coming off the injury. Thad needs to find Chandler more often, he was getting open.
