ESPN: Bills' backup plan for Byrd underwhelming
4BillsintheBurgh replied to Pitta's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think if the qb's fall, it gets a little thinner at 9, don't you? I guess I doubt we would take any of the qb's. The 3 OT's may be gone, and I just don't think Evans stands out enough compared to what's available in the 2nd. Could be deciding between Mosely, Ebron, Dix maybe a dline given Schwartz. I'm not saying it's probable, but I wouldn't be surprised given how this draft is shaping up. -
ESPN: Bills' backup plan for Byrd underwhelming

I'm not going to be shocked if it happens. Looks to be our biggest need now post FA and it's not like he's rated in the bottom half of the round. Plus with the depth in the draft we can get a good wr in the 2nd and an ORT in the third. -

Guess you still could have been at Jeter's place then. -
I just don't get why he wasn't tagged, although I was for having him play it out instead of trading him. We could have shored up the roster this year and let him go next year and hopefully not have needed as many FA's with the idea of getting a pick for him. So we would get some use out of him to win games this year and hopefully get the comp pick in 2016. It's over now though.

Good. This will allow us to draft a TE after we make the playoffs. -

Just a guess, but if Pepper loved him that much I think he would have at least visited by now. -

When the CBA was first signed, there was talk of a minimum spend percentage for teams based on the cap. I don't hear about that playing into the general thoughts I've read about this years free agency from anyone. Wasn't that supposed to be kicking in by now, or is that next year? -

Bills sign Aaron Williams to extension

I like how he covers TE's, which it seems for the first time in a long time did not kill us last year. -
Thanks.

The players that hire him want to maximize their value, just like Peters did. There were some front offices that actually liked dealing with him because he did his homework when he set his value for a player. The team knew where they stood and could take it or leave it, there wasn't much negotiating. Someone had posted a good link a while back about how Parker operates (maybe when Peters left) and it was a good read. I think I remember reading that Parker usually finds someone to hire his client at the value he believes is fair. Does anyone know if the Bills have ever re-signed one of Parker's clients?

Jairus Byrd [was Jarius Byrd]
4BillsintheBurgh replied to Iowabillsfan4life's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I really can't believe we didn't tag him and the only way I see that as being better for the future of the Buffalo Bills is financially with cash to cap. It is certainly not about wins because the team is more talented with him on the roster. And if you've already stated you are going to add "dust settles" guys why would you want those guys to guarantee you won't get a comp pick? Wouldn't it be better for the organization if you sign guys this year with the cap space you have then let him walk next year with hopefully not needing to sign those guys? I'd hate to think if we sign some core special teams guys that takes us out of the running for a comp pick. If that's in the best interest of the Bills then you're just confirming (again) the best interest of the Bills is money. -
Sidney Rice released by Seahawks
4BillsintheBurgh replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
With Favre, he took a lot of coverage from Harvin and did not drop many balls. But I don't think he can stay healthy enough to be a number one. I'd hate to miss out on one of the good wr's that should be around in the top of the 2nd (or even the third) because we feel Rice is the answer at that position. With all the talent in the draft this year I think we will get a shot at a wr that would normally be taken at the end of the first round. Hopefully we can get the right guy. -

I agree that it looks like a pipe dream at this point. My only hope is that three QB's are taken before us and St Louis takes Matthews because of his dad as well as someone trades up to get take a "suprise" player. But that could be a three pipe dream... -

He has a lot of work to do before that happens, but he seems to have the talent. He is the OT of these three that I wouldn't mind seeing at LG while he keeps learning. They did a lot of down blocking with him at Auburn and it looks like to me at least, that he could destroy peolple at the NFL level. Then move him to RT if Pears (or Hairston) gets hurt and then he starts in 2015 at RT. -

I wouldn't bet on anything until the FA dust setlles. I think that will tell you what front offices around the league think of this draft class. If I remember correctly Geno Smith was a lock in the top 10 for most if not all the time running up to the draft. I won't be suprised if only one qb gets taken before us and the top 3 OT's are off the board when we pick. -
Trade-Down: How Far Would Be TOO Far?
4BillsintheBurgh replied to Astrobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think if A) Hairston is back at full strength B) Hairston or Pears can play LG then 105 is a fine place to start because we have at least upgraded the line a little. If those are not true I think it should be earlier, maybe at 73 in Astro's sim. -

Bills hire Jim Schwartz DC, Todd Downing QB coach
4BillsintheBurgh replied to FluffHead's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If they want to win this year they should not trade him, let him play the season out. At least I will know the Bills are serious about winning instead of rebuilding if they let him play the tag out. Assuming we get a couple players this draft there will be plenty of picks next year to find a free safety assuming meeks/williams don't step up. Trade down will be nice, but I think with this talented of a draft we may not trade chart value. Which is okay given the talent available, but some folks may be upset. -
who thinks we will go OT in the 1st round
4BillsintheBurgh replied to Braedenstearns's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I just think our QB situation makes our need great enough to take the OT. And I think that also plays into your teams mentioned in that their qb's have overcome the line shortcomings. In our case I think we need our line to overcome the qb shortcomings at least (hopefully) in the short term.
