How would you fix the Offense?
4BillsintheBurgh replied to PatsFanNH's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It's all about Allen at this point, so... 1) Get Josh Allen a QB mentor that will be here for 4 or so years and get him a QB coach that does more than chew gum at an alarmingly fast rate. 2) I saw Sirles get some time yesterday, didn't hear about an injury to Mills, so keep that up and find out what we have in reserve on the oline, especially when it won't get Allen killed. I would say the same for wr, but I don't think we have anyone talented enough. I guess just see if Pryor is worth a contract next season. 3) In the off season, find Josh Allen a go to receiver that is tall, has greater than a 5" vertical and wants to win a jump ball with a 5' 10" guy (I'm looking at you KB). If Pryor does work out and we find a go to target, our top three wr wouldn't be terrible. 4) Get someone to evaluate offensive players, in the front office and the field. The folks that decided Nate Peterman and Ryan Groy were starters coming out of camp should be demoted/replaced with folks who know what they're talking about or just overrule them. Beane needs to hire someone to tell him what offensive pro personnel to sign because he's not doing a good enough job. 5) After that, for me, it's about the oline. In the draft we may be high enough to get a pass rusher in the first and I'm okay with that, but you better hit on 2nd and 3rd round guys for the offense and at least one of them needs to be a starting oline. We should be able to get another one in FA and hopefully one of the guys we have already will improve enough to start. 6) The rest of our 10 picks should help our depth and special teams. Olineman, wr's, a dynamic punt returner and backup dl, lb and db's to help with field position on special teams. 7) As for te, I'm a believer that the bottom of the first round is a nice place to grab one. To me, spending a high pick on te is for after you made the playoffs with a solid team and you can get someone to take you to the next level. Most TE's are not only dependent on the qb and oline, but also need decent wr's to have enough space to work in. So a top te is the final piece for my offense, but that would be 2020 at the earliest. If we need some middle tiers folks, grab someone in fa, I'm guessing Clay may get cut after the season. 8) At rb, I don't like Murphy because he can't pass block, so I'd try to replace him with as talented a guy as possible. Ride out the contacts of Shady and Ivory and draft as needed after 2019 -

JK's got plenty of other things to do. I'll offer my services. Mr Pegula, buy me a house, pay me 250K a year and I'll move my family back to the area and babysit him. Obviously family has not worked for him, so I'll provide the hammer to straighten him out. I need a workout buddy anyway, so it's a win win. -
The True reason to fire McDermott

Yes you stick with it and keep collecting talent, because being able to pick talented guys is what matters. If the coach depresses the talent you have, you will get better picks and a better chance at talent. Were were close because we were picking talented guys. Then you can bring in the right coach to lead the talent you have. It will be interesting to see who the Browns bring in, for example, to get the most out of their talent. Our owners need to find a football guy to run the team for them so a dump of talented players won't be allowed and we can move forward. -
I have have seen multiple folks telling KB where to line up over the last couple of weeks. He's the only one I wouldn't mind moving if we can get some return. I hope the rest of it doesn't happen because if the front office has whittled the roster down to these guys they should go with them. It does not help the culture now to purge assets.

Derek Anderson to sign with Bills per Mort

I put this one in with talent, part of recognizing the defense etc. It seemed to me the protections got better with Bodine in there. -

Sure, he should. As a unpolished rookie it will be difficult for him to do that and avoid developing bad habits, which will in turn delay development. Only one cure for the oline, talent. -

We will agree to disagree then. I think if Wood and Incognito (edit: Glenn would have been nice too) were still on the team I would be okay with leaving him in there. He's just not getting enough out of the reps with the current state of our oline. Exhibit A for me is Andrew Luck and the health issues he's had. I will say the Bills will probably do what you're saying, I just don't agree with it. -

He's been given the week by getting signed on Monday, he has experience in this system. I'll be surprised if Peterman is on the team in any way shape or form. So no one else is worried about JA getting hurt because he can't get rid of the ball quickly? I was concerned about 4 different joints getting broken on that one sack/fumble against the vikes, the one our TE recovered. People at his feet, taking swats at his arm. For that reason alone I'm okay with Anderson starting, because I am on the side of Allen not being ready yet. Doesn't mean JA wouldn't get some time on the field, just not the lion's share. He's getting very little out of having 1.5 seconds to throw the ball. -

and quality offensive linemen, not even worried about wr at this point. He just doesn't trust his blockers, for good reason -

Ivory is also a better pass blocker, seems to be something Murphy isn't good at yet and will limit his reps
