  1. Does it make that much of a difference, in reality? Say if the schedule was 16 games with three bye weeks how much would the dollars suffer? You would lose the gate revenue from a 17th game but isn't the real money from the TV contract that would in effect be 19 weeks? There can only be so many games on tv anyway and while there would be less games to choose from if there is a bad game you can just switch to other closer games. If the owners wanted to have more games available they could ramp up their desire to go overseas, which would also be easier for the players with more bye weeks. I think the NFLPA really screwed the pooch agreeing to more games before getting more bye weeks.
  2. After the extra point Bass might not have joined the st huddle where Farwell made the announcement and he then forgot to go back and make sure the kicker heard him. Just a guess though.
  3. Absolutely, especially since our oline is always going to be better pass blockers than run blockers so we need a better than average back with speed to attack off tackle. Seems pretty important to me.
  4. Good info, but actually I guess I didn't get the point I was trying to make clear. I was thinking on a year to year basis, so Brady in year 10 is going to be less than Josh in year 10, for any year that is looked at, just because Josh is a better athlete.
  5. It seems to me that if he doesn't run the ball the offense can sputter. He needs that scramble or one of his runs to keep drives going.. So I want to see the number of his runs drop and see the offense not lose a step.
  6. Yeah maybe, hopefully it will be because Josh is seeing the field better and getting rid of the ball faster, but yes, our running game may be better with Kromer and less Josh. I'd be willing to bet Josh's run stats will always be better than Tommy's at any similar point in their careers, because Josh can while Tommy cannot.
  7. So you're going to compare what BB* does with rookies vs the rest of the league? No thanks, I'll spend the extra for the insurance with playoffs/positioning on the line. Brady did have plenty of both rookie and veteran backups over the years. The other point is that Josh runs more than Tom and the chance we will need someone is much greater.
  8. We're at a point as a team where we need an experienced backup qb to give us a chance to win games if Josh goes down for a few games, and not worry about how much we can get for said backup in a trade. Those were the good old days when we weren't expected to be in the playoffs. As we saw this year a game or two has large ramifications on playoff seeding. Pittsburgh did this with Charlie Batch, he was a backup who could come in and play ok as well as be a sounding board for Ben. Fitz could be that for us, if he was willing to accept that he is the backup and do the things that position requires. I could see Josh and Fitz getting along well too.
  9. Seems to me like McKenzie will end up with the NYG, Stevenson will compete with Beasley for playing time. We will be able to tell if the front office thinks Stevenson is good enough by what they do; if they re-sign McKenzie or draft a guy it doesn't bode well for him. This is what needs to happen for us with the guys who were brought in as fa's, they need to be replaced with draft picks to keep costs down. If not, the pay your own drafted players thing kind of falls apart. Best case scenario Stevenson wins outright in camp and either Beas takes a pay cut or is released/traded.
  10. Well I'm glad someone will be advocating for the running game. Between Dorsey and Brady I figured our rb room would be a lonely Taiwan Jones.
  11. Meh, I didn't think he had that big of an impact over the course of the year. I'm sure he's great in the locker room but I don't know if we need that as much anymore and I wouldn't mind seeing an upgrade. I'm hoping for a first round pick, with Diggs/Davis/Beasley it seems like a decent time to bring in a guy who can threaten the deep third, get acclimated slowly, then next year take a prominent role.
  12. I think retirement was dependent on winning the super bowl. Seems like given his statements around that subject he wouldn't join the giants though.
  13. I assumed Daboll will pay Sanders decently to help the giants.
  14. I was reading the Bieniemy thread and I guess there is some personal baggage he has to overcome too. Will be interesting to see what happens with him.
  15. So you think the failure of other coaches under Reid are causing the issue? I assume Eric calls plays also, but it seems like Reid is always calling plays in the high pressure times.
  16. Yeah, as long as Reid is carrying a play card on Sunday's Bieniemy will have an uphill battle for a job. At the end of his next contract I wonder if Eric will move along.
  17. It's hard to text in the NFL
  18. The local pittsburgh sports talk has trubisky on their radar, it makes sense if they can get him under the cap. What about carolina? Didn't he go to school there? They seem to have a need and if you need a qb to play next year it doesn't seem like one of the rookies will get it done.
  19. Urban Meyer is available. He might spend long weekends in Columbus once in a while, but will mostly be focused on football.
  20. I just realized Schoen/Daboll must have sent Fromm to be his qb of the future. 4d chess!
  21. This is an article from the 30th by the steelers version of bills wire. https://steelerswire.usatoday.com/2022/01/30/steelers-broncos-nfl-mike-munchak/ Steelers fans want him back, haven't seen anything from the normal reporters about it yet. The Steelers do have an opening. From what I observed, he made a big difference in the olines performance. I don't know the details of whether Munchak specializes in what we are going to do or if Dorsey has had any professional contact with him.
  22. Do you have a link for the declined contract? A quick search is not coming up with anything for me. As far as whether the Bills wanted these guys or vice versa, really I look at it just like the players about to be free agents. Take Wallace for example, Beane says to the effect "we'll sign him if he really wants to be here". Who wants who in this case? The Bills want to pay Levi the value they have for him, Levi might (and probably does) have a different higher value that he is looking for. If for example the Bills thought Wallace was better than Tre or they really saw his skills as irreplaceable they'd find a way to sign him. I'm not trying to suggest that anything dramatic is going on here, that either one of these guys suck or whatever, I think it's just a case that it's time for a breakup; they both are not getting what they need from the relationship so it's time to go their separate ways. As far as what Flores has relayed through his lawyer and this suit, as far as I'm concerned he's in the victim zone so I tend to believe what he says a little bit more than folks not falling on a sword here. He is trying to shine a light on what's going on and I'm actually assuming there was a lot of info that is not included.
  23. I am not saying I know anything, the talking points for me are: Bobby Johnson leaves for a lateral position - the Bills didn't want him. It is suggested Daboll would be available for a lateral move - the Bills didn't want him. I am not saying there is animosity driving this, just amounts to an agreement to go their separate ways. If you and your boss are at odds about business decisions it's time for you to go it alone. Beane mentioned in his press conference that he and McDermott had a plan to handle losses on the personnel side, they knew who the group they didn't want to lose and the group they were ok losing. Schoen is a big part of a group of men that spent large amounts of time together, so I'm making the leap that if there was strife in the office he knew about it. I have to assume Schoen approached Daboll and said hey, if I go I want you with me. As part of the GM interview Schoen needs to lay out a plan for his new franchise, acquisition of coaches, players, staff. He may have mentioned during the interview his thoughts on Daboll and what position he would be able to fill, which then was passed around the NYG front office. Normally these types of conversations don't make it out of the building so there probably wasn't a thought to muzzle something like Daboll will be your OC if you get the head coaching job when discussing with Flores. Look at what happened to Flores in Miami; why was he let go - he won too many games. In the end he went against the wished of his boss. If Flores didn't have the stones to bring all that happened to the public you would never know what happened. Signs like playing Fitz for part of the games to try and win and Gailey leaving after one year point to some internal strife like the coach is trying to balance different goals (development vs winning) which he shouldn't have to be doing if everyone in the front office is pulling in the same direction. Heck, Culley was cut because he didn't share the long term goals of the club. What does that mean? Seems to me he won too many games too. I would love to hear what the GM in his ear was telling Culley to do, probably trying to get him to lose games. Take the Doug Marrone/Whaley incident a few years back where they were yelling at each other. Do you think that was not a factor in Marrone leaving? Or that was one of a list of issues Marrone had when he left? As far as I'm concerned, there is certainly smoke about, so yes there are some ideas. There may not be proof but there are certainly some dots to connect. Really some butting of heads is expected and it's not all bad. Seems to me like both McD and Daboll are ready and willing to move on and that's what's happening. I'm sure they will be gracious in public about it and carefully choose their words when they talk about it.
  24. Given enough success, yes. While he threw the actions of some of the owners under a bus, if I believed that it was justified, then maybe I would look at that as a positive? Especially if I was trying to do things the right way. Or if I just wanted to piss the other owners off (a la Al Davis). While I understand this is hearsay, I'm going to suggest that Schoen seems to be the likely candidate to provide that info.
