  1. We have 2 young wr's and a young qb who will improve this years output. I do agree that we need help on offense but if we're picking around #10, I think a RT, G or QB would be a better value to our team than TE.
  2. My point is they all have new qb's this year, with the Falcons and Ravens using first round rookies and all are doing well. So if you have any questions about the qb on your roster and there is a franchise qb there, you take him. The Jets and Fins both had 2nd round qb's on their roster, didn't they?
  3. A first round TE is nice AFTER you make the playoffs, which I think is why we haven't seen one in a while. If you can't get to the playoffs with a normal TE, you have more pressing needs. Like DE, OLB, C. I'd even take the best available G or RT or even a playing making safety before TE. We need to draft a new personell department, and hopefully Ralph will do more than just allude to the fact that our drafts haven't been great for the last 7 or 8 years. Could be the reason why DJ got extended - Ralph made his decision on where change is going to happen. My fingers are crossed.
  4. I think the Falcons, Ravens, Jets and Dolphins would disagree with you there.
  5. I guess I'm blind, because I see one defensive player for peters, Dock and preston to block, then the ss overloads peters side. The olb comes to peters' inside shoulder and peters does not see the ss quickly enough to get a solid shot on him. That is a well defined blitz. I really don't understand what is going on with the play side. We left the left outside linebacker unblocked and he ended up getting a shot in on the fb and disrupted the play. Butler blocks down and Walker blocks the end, making Walker the only blocker on that side. I guess the thought is the olb will attack Lynch and the play fake, but it would have been nice to let Walker at least get in front of him and have Butler help Walker. Maybe they were covering for Duke, I don't know. Looking at that play now, Fine should have been the target, the safety who I can't see was well off the line and there should have been enough space to get the ball in there.
  6. I've been waffling on the play call for a while. At first I blamed JP, then reading some threads here I was thinking why would you try to throw it there, now I'm back to JP. It seems the Jets had a run blitz on because the FB got blocked and the opposite side db crashed as well. At least with the pass you get a chance to pretty much end the game. If JP realizes that the defense is going to be sending everyone, then get out of the pocket and run for it. You HAVE to see how many guys are on the line and know you're going to be outmatched and try to make a play. It's one of his three strengths, you'd have thought he would run with it. The other two being a deep ball and the slant pattern. I guess the real problem is that he's still on the roster. Maybe we'll replace him with a first round qb. Having a quality qb seems to help more than anything else.
  7. I agree. I thought that maybe he was trying to pull a Brett Favre stunt there and flip the ball to someone at the last minute. The thought also crossed my mind that he decided he was "going to make something happen" and didn't put the team goals of winning the game first. Given the situation and his running ability, he should have taken off. Jack-a$$.
  8. Considering they reported it as well... Bills | Parrish contract details - from www.KFFL.com Fri, 21 Dec 2007 16:58:12 -0800 Updating a previous report, the Buffalo Bills have signed WR Roscoe Parrish to a three-year contract extension. Financial terms were not disclosed.
  9. I find it hard to believe that he does not assess his performance during the games on Sunday and attempt to correct problems that occur. Whether it's enough for you or other fans is the point I guess. Really it comes down to if this team is where it needs to be under his direction. So we'll disagree about that, and I'll walk away thinking we can win a SB under Jauron and you will be looking for another coach. I've never heard another coach talk about how easy it is to win games. Ever. All coaches talk about how difficult it is. Heck, catch some of Joe Paterno's assessments of his opponents. You'd think they're playing an NFL team the way he describes them and how he hopes to beat them. It's part of coach speak. True, but look at this year. It seems to me like we have enough talent to field a good team. But if we lose a player or two, our play seems to crash. We need to have enough talent on this team so there is very little drop off if a backup plays. Look what the Steelers and Pats* have done this year with their injuries. Is that coaching or talent? You need the talent first, if we have decent backups and Jauron can't overcome a situation, then it's time for him to go. Until then, let's keep moving forward instead of rebuilding again. How do you compare DJ to MM? Did you forget where we were a few years ago? Why throw the progress away?
  10. And I think he is valuable this year - but I also think Johnson can fill that role adequately next year, that's all. If someone makes a good offer for Reed, I'd have to listen. And I guess I'm thinking 4th round or equivalent.
  11. This is slightly off your topic, but I think if we trade anyone it's Reed. Assuming improvement in our rookies, he is the one who has value and we can do without. I know he seems to be a key part of the offense this year, but I think Johnson has proven he can step into the "security blanket" role, and hopefully Hardy will gain more confidence in the offseason. If not Parrish can supplant him as the number 3. Parrish reminds me of Dante Hall, another guy who should have been a lot better with the offense but never seemed to get it done. If we do want to trade him, I vote they talk to SF, Martz like those small, quick wr's.
  12. I didn't say it was easy, but I think DJ does not have as much or as difficult a road to change. He seems to have problems on Sundays, while Coughlin had troubles in the locker room and if I remember correctly his decisions were also questioned on Sundays. That viewpoint is awfully cy....oh, I see. My point is with better talent we have a better chance to win, regardless of the coach. If the players execute better the coaches will change their approach to the game and vice versa. Like last years MNF Dallas game. If TE doesn't throw a pick, don't you think that affected what Fairchild called for at least a few games? I'm hoping that the confluence of the players experience and the coaching end up with us being a competitive team for a while. With our luck, we'll get there, then the team will be sold and the new owners will blow it up again.
  13. So let's play McKelvin and see what he can do. It's okay if he makes enough plays to keep Greer in the nickel spot. Makes us a better, deeper team. McKelvin has improved vastly on kickoffs, why not on the corner when he gets some time. If I remember correctly, teams take a baseline brain activity scan on qb's prior to the season for comparison if/when there is a question of whether a concussion is still effecting the player. I know some of the teams were doing that, maybe some else knows for sure that the NFL mandated it. I think the problem is his youth and the coaches have probably thrown too much at him. Regardless, he needs to keep improving. The fans need to realize that improvement may not mean better play all the time. Is it really that bad? Our starters seem to do okay except for center. I agree Butler seems a little fragile, and it would be nice to have him as our top backup. I'd like to see Walker play some guard because Chambers or someone else can play RT, but that doesn't seem to be in the cards. I remember the Oak fans saying Walker played well at guard and struggled at RT in space but I guess the Bills don't see him there. Again, is it so bad? Schobel is a quality LDE and I think that with a quality RDE Schobel gets less double teams and is under less pressure, gets hurt less and contributes more because of single blockers. We need pressure on the qb from our down 4, and we're not there yet. Our 3DT rotation has played okay, at least we're not a seive against the run and Stroud can get close to the qb. Keep in mind that Turk is learning as well, it's not all Dick. My hope is that between the two of them everything will come together for us to make a run. Sort of like Coughlin "got it" after a while. I think the place were we should spend money is the college/free agent scouting staff. More quality people there should translate to more quality draft choices and help our coaches get more wins. If Barry Switzer could win a SB, Dick Jauron can also.
  14. I thought at the time they were signed the thought was we have decent players and too many other holes on this team to address DE at the time, sign them so we can concentrate in weaker areas. I think Ellis is an attempt to address these two upcoming holes and I hope a 1st day pick this year will help as well. Adding a pass rushing RDE will go a long way to making this D work well. It sucks that McCargo can't get his head out of his bum because it would be nice to try Spencer Johnson on the edge.
  15. That's what happens when you allow a naked bootleg the prior week.
  16. I was hoping for a stretch play similar to the one Dallas ran on 4th down to end the game the prior week. Something to try and get around the run blitzing Cle was doing. No passing though, no thanks.
  17. It shows we aren't ready for the playoffs because we don't have enough talent on the team yet. Same thing that Bulter's return showed us.
  18. A lot of times a "sophmore slump" can be attributed to giving the second year player (and qb) more to think about. Increasing the playbook, asking him to read the defenses, etc can lead to paralysis. Whether this is a factor here I don't know. Then there's the concussion, the turnovers plus the confidence in the pass blocking. The coaching staff should have identified the problem by now and should be setting TE up to succeed. Maybe Turk and Van Pelt are learning to handle a young qb as well, I don't know how much experience they have in this situation. Either way, TE needs to keep improving and you're correct, he needs to be the starter if he is going to get better and get the team behind him. In the end I hope this is a neccessary step in his development, although much to everyone's chagrin it may take into next year for him to really "get it". Defenses are sitting back and daring TE to read and beat their coverage, he has to take up that challenge and make it happen. It's not going well at this point, but the key is improvement.
  19. And one of the main reasons Cowher has such a poor post season record is the Pats*. It won't help to play them twice a year guaranteed.
  20. The coaches can help, but TE needs to make it happen himself. If he wants to lead a team, he needs to be able to bounce back from this bad play. Seemed like TE was most comfortable taking the check down, and that couldn't have been the primary read. Defenses will adjust and take the check down away from him. It will be TE's turn to adjust then, hopefully he will be able to. I really don't want to burn a high draft pick on a qb. KC is ranked 27th in passing yards per game and has only 6 sacks on the season, worst in the league. That should help this Sunday.
  21. Unfortunately that is how losing is justified - "if we could have just done that one thing..." and while we could have gotten it done last night, we didn't. We were down most of the game and luckily our special teams kept us in it. The difference in a teams talent in the NFL is razor thin - that's why these teams come from last place in a division to first in one year. Making the play or making the correct calls is the difference between winning and losing, and it seems we've been on the wrong end of those plays more times than not. It was a tough loss for me because of the missed kick, but it was a sign of where this team is. I guess we could still make the playoffs, but after this loss I'm hoping the young guys get some more experience this year and we make a run in 2009. Watching Jim Kelly on the sidelines last night, I was thinking if he owned the team there was no way we'd be playing Marty ball on that last drive.
  22. I think comes down to: Can Edwards put the poor passes behind him and throw the ball downfield? Can we not play Marty-ball at the end of the game? Can we get a center? Can Ellison make a play on a ball in the endzone? Can Corner get a sack when he comes off the corner clean? Can Ko make a play on the ball? Can McKelvin make a play on the ball? Can veteran d-ends not get taken in by the naked bootleg? Not that we needed all of these, but some of them would have been helpful. And yes, there are rookies in this mix, because to be a good team you need your backups to play at a high level as well. Nobody gets away from the injuries in the NFL, but some teams persist through them. Good teams find ways to win games. It should not have come down to Lindell making a 47 yarder, but because of his failure and many others that occurred during the game, we do not deserve to be in the playoffs because we are not good enough.
  23. How about the numbers from their second years, since the same number of games have been played. Which line is Trent's and which is Losman's? from nfl.com The underscores are an attempt to get everything to line up better. 24. Seems to me like it's a plea to be ignored.
  25. Really the same thing (a sack) could have happened on the "beautiful" bomb that he connected on. While pretty, that throw was late, it should have been in the air 20-25 yards earlier. That's how you avoid sacks, not playing street ball and chucking it downfield as far as you can. It worked out because of the type of "talent" JP has.
