  1. So the guy gets put on the exempt list, which allows him to collect his $13.1 million this year for not playing, which he then uses (at least in part) to enter into a financial "settlement" with the victim, whose subsequent refusal to testify results in the charges being dismissed, thereby allowing him to cash in big on the FA market. Did I miss anything?
  2. So he left an actual head coaching job for a CHANCE to be a head coach again at some point in the future? Sure thing, Doug.
  3. Someone should make a list of every unheralded college or CFL quarterback who has been the subject of a TBD post since Jim Kelly's retirement and who was supposedly "the answer" at QB. Remember when we just HAD to draft Tony Pike or Dan LeFevour?
  4. Think about how hard of a time scouts have projecting college players into the NFL before the draft. It must be much harder to scout them from HS to college considering that they are much more raw, younger (often still growing), and come from an even larger pool of talent. The idea of projecting a player's pro potential at 18 just doesn't happen the way it does in other sports. That's why it always fascinates me to see when hockey and basketball players are identified as phenoms at 13 and 14 and, in some cases (e.g., Wayne Gretzky, Sidney Crosby, LeBron James, etc.), those projections are right.
  5. I see your point. Trading for him would be much betterrrr!!!
  6. I had the same reaction. Plus, isn't that the goal of every coach? By the way, nobody is "trading" for Revis. Either the Pats pick up his option (or work out a new contract for him by the end of the month), or it's a free-for-all for his services in the FA market.
  7. I saw that too and looked it up last night. Here's your answer: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/This_Is_Our_House
  8. I've never heard Jed York speak before. I knew there were some concerns about his qualifications to run a football team, but after seeing that video I now have boatloads of sympathy for Niners fans (and a small change of heart about Harbaugh). That kid's not going anywhere anytime soon, and that along would terrify me as a fan.
  9. http://deadspin.com/are-the-49ers-cheap-1682507645 I really try not to engage in schadenfreude, but seeing other teams go through bouts of what we have been going through for years and knowing that it's a new era for us is kind of nice. It's also a luxury to see stories about cheap owners, schemes to move the team, etc. and know that they aren't about us anymore.
  10. I'm more inclined to believe that things played out the way they did because of the emergence of LeVeon Bell, who went from being an up-and-coming young RB into an elite, MVP-caliber player. That said, once Blount realized that the Steelers weren't going to do the running back by committee thing, I can easily see him pulling the stunts that he did with the hope that he would be released and, in that case, he almost certainly had his eye on the Patriots as his next stop.
  11. Sorry, but no dice. One month ago he was the head coach of a 9-7 team that most people see as being on the upswing. Today he is the OL coach of one of the three worst teams in football -- notwithstanding any other title he negotiated with the team. There's no way that can be interpreted as anything but a mistake. I agree with Schefter that circumstances could change, but the ONLY way that it turns out not to be a mistake is if (1) he gets another head coaching position in the NFL or at an elite college AND (2) his next job is actually better than the one he just left. Just getting another job won't be enough (see Mularkey, Michael R.). I readily admit that it's possible, but I have a hard time seeing how he gets there from his current gig. . .
  12. I was thinking the same thing. There's no chance that it really turns out to be true, but if it is the case I would then start looking into the background of current SNL writers to see if any of them made a recent deal with the devil.
  13. Lee Smith is an average TE?
  14. I thought the UFL folded a couple of years ago??
  15. Technically, all of his games were coached from the heavens as he is a god walking among us mere mortals.
  16. Since the 2010 season ended, the Jags have gone 5-11, 2-14, 4-12, and 3-13. If there's no real improvement next year, do they really have any other choice other than to blow it all up and clean house (again)? I suppose the team could have another 3 or 4 win season, with the offensive line's performance as a massive exception, but that's not exactly a scenario that plays out very often (other than maybe Dallas in the early 2000s). Again, anything is possible, but I can't imagine this is where he thought he would be a month ago.
  17. If the Jags play poorly enough for Bradley to be fired, they aren't going internally for their next HC. If Bradley is fired mid-season, he may get a shot to take over as interim HC, but he'll have to do a heck of a lot to get the gig full time. I really don't see how this works out for him in any way unless the Jags somehow make a miraculous turnaround on the offensive side of the ball and it turns him into a hot commodity for a future job. Not sure those are good odds. . .
  18. Why would the Broncos even interview him if he had no chance? He may be a longshot, but I doubt it's a farce.
  19. I'm speechless. Even if he's not the frontrunner, why not go ahead with the interview? The worst thing that could happen is that he is wined and dined and has a nice conversation with the Broncos brass. And no, I don't think there is any downside to being passed over again. Just remaining in the conversation is what's important. I just don't get it -- why not give it your best shot and do your best to wow them and change their pre-conceived preferences? This is really Doug Marrone in a nutshell.
  20. I really don't have any idea what's going on in Denver. After they lost, I saw something suggesting that Elway was going to try and get younger and cheaper -- which doesn't bode well for re-signing some of their key offensive free agents. If he's truly looking to do a quick rebuild, then Manning's future is a huge wild card and this would actually make sense. On the other hand, if they want to stay the course and make Manning happy, Gase is the choice. I don't have a clue how Kubiak would fit in -- other than his connection to Elway.
  21. Why stop there? Since the "curse" really began after the Music City Forward Pass, why not remedy it by also bringing back a 50+ year-old Doug Flutie and giving Phillips a chance for a do-over on naming a starting QB????
  22. Great idea -- because superstition is always a good basis for making business decisions involving entire communities and billion dollar organizations.
  23. Tomsula? Wow. So does that make Gase the favorite for the Denver job?
  24. The schadenfreude would be so much better without the $4 million buyout.
  25. Yep, and if he wins that love affair will be mutual.
