I'm sorry, but if Miami wants to have two high-paid TEs, neither of whom are named "Gronkowski" or "Graham," plus the huge cap numbers for Suh, Wallace, and Tannehil, I'm not sure that's necessarily a bad thing.
Seeing that $28.5 million cap number for Suh in 2016 is HILARIOUS. I assume that they have a plan to restructure it at some point, but that's probably not something you want hanging out there unresolved.
Wish him all the best. That said, it probably would have been cheaper (and less painful) for them if they had managed their cap better last year and just kept Sproles.
The NFL should just cancel the the season and go with a year-round FA period. This past week has been way more entertaining than 99% of the games last year!
Not saying that wasn't a terrible draft (Troup alone ensures that is the case), but I don't think we're the only team saying that five years out. I just took a quick look at that draft and sorted by team (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2010_NFL_draft) and note that there are a bunch of teams without anyone left from 2010 -- e.g., Indy, Detroit (now that Suh is gone).
Might want to avoid the relationship analogies when talking about DeMarco. http://deadspin.com/what-we-know-about-the-confusing-saga-of-brennan-clay-a-1674777019
This story basically encapsulates the offseason so far. Guy runs as fast as he can away from the sinking ship that is the 49ers, but quickly realizes that the Eagles are also approaching train wreck status and goes somewhere else.
Aaron Rodgers - QB
J.J. Watt - DE
Marshall Yanda - OG
Luke Kuechly - MLB
Rob Gronkowski - TE
Anything short of that (although I could probably live with Luck instead of Rodgers), and Doug needs to go!
He's not going to refuse to be a Bill. I really believe that this entire" he's not happy" thing is nothing more than a calculated attempt to re-work his contract in light of the fact that his 2016 salary isn't guaranteed. I'm not a cap person, but I would think that his contract can be re-done in a way that benefits both sides (i.e., spreading out the cap hit over time, but also guaranteeing more future money). Remember, Drew Rosenhaus is his agent and he is not going to let his client crater a deal simply because of a temper tantrum over having to move 350 miles away (TO notwithstanding). It's all about the money.
In light of the McCoy-Kiko trade, I think it's safe to say that this thread might be just a touch off. The trade may turn out horribly for us (although I don't think that will be the case) but this is definitely NOT the same old Bills.
It's going to be really interesting to see what the plan is at QB. On the one hand, having a top tier RB means that they can run a low risk passing game with a half decent veteran (or even EJ). On the other hand, this is an "all in" move, so you really can't take any chances.
Whaley really has a ton of incentive to get this done. If Hughes has a couple more seasons like the last two, the trade with Indy goes down as one of the best in team history, and probably even league wide (at least in recent history). That only happens if he stays in Buffalo.
I actually give him some credit here. Long term, the broadcasting gig could be more financially lucrative (he certainly isn't going to be getting a big contract now) and much less work. Fox seemed to be high on him as an analyst, so he really did have options.
Now, would I actually want to see the Bills take a shot with him? That's another story.
We've always known that he's a larger-than-life personality, but I really have been impressed by the way he just "gets it." He genuinely seems to know how important the team is to the community and its fans. If he can actually produce on the field (and this is obviously a big IF), he could turn out to be a legendary figure in Bills history when this is all over.
