The only difference I can see is tipping by credit card automatically makes people claim those tips to the government. If you tip cash it is up to that person to claim them.

we are trained to never say "do you need change". We always assume they do and tell them we'll be back with it.

The togo person makes about 3 times in base wages what the serves makes though. That should make the necessary tip a bit lower.

Where I work, each person usually gets 4 tables. Depending on how busy it is, a lot of times all 4 tables are not even filled. If someone had 7 tables all filled at once the server would not even have enough time to spend earning that 10 percent at each table. If everyone tipped 10 percent, I'm guessing the dollars per hour would be a little below 10 bucks. It wouldn't be horribly low, but I don't think it would be as high as your estimate.

Where I work, they don't. They get a pretty good hourly wage though. The hosts get a share of our tips because they partially bus and wipe down our tables.

Yeah there are a lot of relocated northerners here. I'm one myself. I'm not buying into the statement that northerners are bad tippers though. There are bad tippers scattered all over the country.

I personally think the whole tipping thing is bogus. I don't understand why the customers are paying for the store's labor costs. Waiters should get a decent wage and if they work extra hard maybe the customers will reward their hard work with an extra buck or two.

Haha, sometimes it may be true, but there are plenty of times where you know the customer is happy but they still tip nothing or next to nothing. I guess just some people were never taught or like aussie said, came from somewhere where tipping isn't commonplace.

Yeah it's getting pretty ridiculous with tipping for everything. The worst though is some people don't think they should tip at all even if they sit down and eat at the restaurant. I don't know if they don't know or don't care that we get paid by tips, but for whatever reason they don't feel like it.

I work as a server in a restaurant. We get a 2.13 an hour wage plus whatever tips we make. The curbside people make about 6 bucks an hour plus whatever tips they make. Combining the fact that they make more an hour than a server and that they don't do a whole lot of work, I would say a 5-10 percent tip is more than enough.

Are you kidding? Conan is the best in the biz hands down. Funnier than ever other late night host combined. Craig isn't awful, but he's definately no where near the Cone Zone.

This post got me thinking. Imagine how cool it would be to be able to talk to JP or any Bill for that matter on a regular basis. Call him up after the game and talk to him about it. You could get tons of great insight. The stuff they tell the press is so manufactured and fake it would be incredibly different to just talk to JP after a game about how he managed to put up 70 points on the Dolphins.
