A tie is better than a loss but worse than a win. It essentially throws any tiebreakers out the window for them. They just have to make sure they have the same number of wins as whoever they are trying to pass.

This is a legit question that I've always wondered about. Obviously you need the hard plastic somewhere for protection, but why not soften the outside of it so it isn't a weapon?

And then you have 20 seconds and 2nd down and you call a run??? You can have 3 pass plays or MAYBE 2 running plays and you chose 2 plays?? And they only would have had 1 running play if the challenge hadn't saved them from the penalty and 10 second run off. That was pathetic all around. That stupid red line was put there by NBC and was about a yard off the actually stick. If either of them would have looked at the stick (which is what actually counts) they would have seen that Manning's foot was clearly behind the line. They were both going on about the dumb red line.
